A Team Of Sidekicks

In order to have a proper conversation with no one casually eavesdropping, Sentry had taken them to a roof of a building, while also watching and analysing them. She immediately got to know that she could almost trust Aqualad, the lad was strapping and filled with such innocence it was quite refreshing. Robin was Batman's sidekick, she would never trust anyone related to Batman even if the world was ending. The fact that she had to be on constant look out for any of her DNA material that might be left behind so that Superman does not find them and take them to Batman is a big cause to this. She knows that no secrets that Batman hides will ever remain secrets and if he somehow gets a sample of her DNA then it might as well have landed on the laps of villains.

Kid Flash was just that annoying tuck boy you try to tolerate because their family is rich, or in this case, because the Flash can just say 'Fuck logic' and just siphon all of your speed, leaving you in suspended animation for centuries because you gave in to a dark thought of ripping his side-kick's tongue out. He just couldn't get the hint that she was just not interested and honestly, using her lasers to shut him up felt really tempting at the moment.

When she scanned the Martian girl, she realized that she was hiding something. She could not decide to just start using her telepathy and delve into her mind because this was Martian Manhunter's relative. The last thing she needed is to have him after her. Sure, one could argue that she could take him down with fire but they forget that this is a comic based universe, the man can just do a DBZ roar and turn into a burning Martian. Even the Guardians of the Universe had to curse them with weakness to fire because of how OP they were. Any way, to the Martian girl, till she herself knew what the Martian was hiding she could not trust her.

Lastly, the clone. If she had any say in the matter then she would have chosen to kill and destroy him without further thought. She could never trust a clone made by a company who had a history in trying to kill her. But, Superman was a big softie and even if he was not fond of the clone now, he would change his mind later and both would even become best of friends. That's why she worked hard on achieving complete Self Mastery; her entire cells of her body were in her complete control. Nothing happens to her body without her knowing and authorizing.

"Let's hear the pitch," she said once they were all on the roof. The five looked at each other before Aqualad took a step forward. Honestly, Sentry was expecting Robin to be the spokesperson.

"So, the Justice League authorized us to be in a team. What we would be doing is recon and covert missions, missions that the Justice League can't be caught doing or are too busy to do," Aqualad started. "We currently have a headquarters located in Happy Harbor, Mt Justice, an old decommissioned Justice League base before they went to space. We have Red Tornado taking care of us, Black Canary in charge of our training and Batman will be the one issuing us missions."

"Sounds like you are all set, why do you need me?" she asked. Of course she knew why, she was a heavy hitter. She would be to them what Superman was to the Justice League.

"Honestly, you are quite impressive and that even more with what you showed us today. Defeating a powered up Atomic Skull with no Superman to help you is a big reason we currently need you in our team," Aqualad said before looking at Superboy with hesitance. The clone just huffed and looked away. "Superboy is strong and could get stronger, but we are in need of someone with raw power in order to make sure the rest of the team can adjust to working as a team with no harm in missions."

"So you want me to be your nannies till you get your baby legs, huh?" Sentry concluded. Superboy became visibly angry and was about to storm forward when the Martian girl held on to his arm, stopping him with a shake of her head.

"Yes!" Aqualad said with no show of shame, conviction oozing out of his eyes. Sentry looked at his eyes, unblinking, for what seemed like forever before smiling.

"I like you, Aqualad, you're true to your heart, exactly what a leader should be. Aquaman taught you well, be proud. Fine, I will join your team but on probationary terms. I will go on the first...have you gone on your first mission?"

"Not yet. But we took down a tornado causing villain earlier today," Aqualad informed her.

"Perfect. I'll join you guys on your first mission and in regards to how you perform, I'll decide whether I'll be a permanent member or a cameo character," she told him.

"Why? This is your chance to prove to the Justice League that you can join them, you can be a hero like them. To show Superman that you can make it on your own," Superboy interjected. She looked at him before eyeing all of them.

"I think you are all misunderstanding something, you are under the misconception that I don't like being Superman's sidekick; you're all wrong. I like it for many reasons I don't trust any of you enough to tell. So, this will be your interview, impress me enough and I'll join you. Besides, I don't think I have anything to prove to the Justice League. There are plenty of heroes working outside their jurisdiction, so don't have tunnel vision about your future. If you can't be Earth's hero, you can aim to be a hero of another planet. Crime is universal," she coached them before looking down the building where the Black Gate convoy had started to arrive.

"Looks like our time will be cut short, gotta go get Atomic Skull in space and back to prison," she said before she started flying to the sky. However, she stopped for a second and looked at the five...teenagers? Can they really be all called teenagers? Perhaps only Aqualad and Kid Flash but the rest are technically not teenagers, food for thought.

"Being a hero is not all about being told how to do it by your mentors, that is their own hero way. Being a hero is how you want it to be. The day you wake up and realize that you want to be your own kind of hero is the day your true hero journey begins. Till then, you are being coached because your true conviction has not emerged." With those last words, she blasted to the sky, eyes already looked onto the unconscious villain.

The radiation all around Earth had increased to dangerous levels due to that explosion but it was been dispersed by Solar flares, the solar systems ultimate defense against cosmic radiation, which made her feel at ease. Soon, the radiation will be on normal levels, which is enough to kill a normal human with cancer over an over...Off topic.

She saw that Atomic Skull's containment suit had a huge hole in it and so, she repaired it the best she could while killing him over and over again in her mind. Once it was secure and safe to be in the presence of normal humans, she flew him back to Metropolis and passed him to the eager hands of the Black Gate personnel. As she watched the convoy drive away, she thought back to her departing words to the other sidekicks.

"I guess those words could be hypocritical coming from me. Till I truly understand what kind of hero I want to be, I will always be Superman's sidekick," she said to herself.
