"Boss, I have a question."
After exchanging greetings and sending off their respects, Zhou Yuan hesitated for a moment before deciding to ask about transferring.
He felt a bit embarrassed because the platoon leader and group leaders had treated him well and even made him a squad leader at a young age. Yet, he still wanted to leave the third platoon.
"What's the matter?" Campbell asked as he noticed Zhou Yuan's unusual mood.
"It's just...I'm curious about the Special Operations Forces and want to know more," Zhou Yuan slowly said, lowering his voice as he spoke.
"The Special Operations Forces?"
Upon hearing Zhou Yuan's words, the platoon leader and three group leaders were all taken aback.
Although Zhou Yuan didn't explicitly say it, these veteran soldiers who had served for nearly ten years could still understand what Zhou Yuan was implying.
This kid wants to join the Special Operations Forces!
Arthur and Carter were fine, considering that Zhou Yuan wasn't one of their subordinates. Additionally, they had just received a gift from Zhou Yuan, so it was best for them to remain silent.
Turner, on the other hand, was different. As the group leader of Zhou Yuan's squad, he regarded Zhou Yuan as one of his most capable subordinates. Now, he was saying that he wanted to leave.
"Give me a reason."
"You should know that by becoming a squad leader, you can be promoted to second lieutenant within six months. This is something that you can't achieve in the Special Operations Forces."
"Don't talk about how cool the Special Operations Forces are. Going there will only make you die faster. You're already an adult and should learn to think like one."
After thinking for a moment, Turner solemnly asked.
Zhou Yuan was already eighteen years old, legally an adult. However, in his eyes, an eighteen-year-old youth was just as naive as an eight-year-old boy and always liked to do silly things that they thought were cool.
Therefore, he wanted to carefully inquire about this matter. If possible, he would still try to persuade Zhou Yuan not to go.
"I want a life full of challenges and adventure every day."
"I want a life filled with passion that can stir up my emotions every day."
"Everything here is good, but this lifestyle doesn't suit me. Everything I can do here can be done by anyone else. I want to do things that others can't do."
Zhou Yuan took a deep breath and earnestly stated his reasons.
He really wanted to spend a few months in the Defense Force to accumulate enough soul points to purchase the genetic evolution fluid for 800,000 soul points. However, doing so would make him feel dissatisfied.
Compared to being firmly locked by the system, he preferred to follow his heart.
Moreover, just because he left the Defense Force didn't mean he couldn't earn soul points. He could still fight tactical nuclear bombs every day in the Special Operations Forces.
After Zhou Yuan finished speaking, Turner and the others fell silent.
Zhou Yuan had already said these words, and they couldn't convince him otherwise.
If it were someone else saying these things, they would think it was a conceited joke. However, when Zhou Yuan said these things, it sounded more like he was stating facts.
As someone who excelled in physical ability and marksmanship, Zhou Yuan had the qualifications to say such things.
"Boss..." Turner had nothing to say and could only turn to Campbell, hoping the platoon leader could make a decision.
"Kid, you're very confident," Campbell said, blowing out a smoke ring and smiling at Zhou Yuan.
"But I have to admit that you have the qualifications to be confident."
"However...joining the Special Operations Forces isn't that simple."
Campbell leaned back in his chair and explained his understanding of the Special Operations Forces.
"Boss, what should I do?"
Zhou Yuan's eyes sparkled, and he unconsciously sat up straight.
Campbell's words were already quite clear. He agreed to Zhou Yuan's transfer, but whether or not he could transfer was still uncertain.
"Show your value."
"In fact, you're already doing that. It's just that you don't know it yet."
Campbell explained patiently, giving Zhou Yuan a glimpse of hope.
"In any location, special operations forces are a non-conventional and mysterious unit that receives missions directly from high-level officials in their respective combat zones. Most of the tasks they undertake are highly difficult external missions, such as clearing out hives and investigating areas plagued by pests. Due to the high level of danger involved in their missions, special operations forces frequently experience injuries and casualties, and often recruit new members. However, no one can actively join special operations forces; you can only wait for them to approach you. To be approached, you must demonstrate your strength, which is what you have been doing since your first day here."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yuan suddenly understood. On his first day, he had swiftly defeated forty-seven veteran soldiers. This achievement might have already caught the attention of the special operations forces. Given the unique and highly confidential nature of the special operations forces, it would be easy for them to investigate the truth of this matter, and he might be selected in the future. However, it was difficult to predict when that future would come. It could happen tomorrow, or it might never happen. He did not like being so passive, but at the moment, there seemed to be no better option than waiting.
"So, keep going," Campbell gestured for Zhou Yuan to leave.
"Yes, sir!" Zhou Yuan saluted the four people in the room one by one before leaving the entertainment room.
"Kid, there may be an important figure coming to the defense wall in the next few days," Campbell said as Zhou Yuan was about to leave.
"Thank you, boss!" Zhou Yuan replied, giving a thumbs up.
Unless something unexpected occurred, the important figure Campbell referred to was likely a member of the special operations forces or a high-ranking official in the fortress. In any case, this person's decision would determine his future. And there was a good chance that Campbell had specially invited this person to help him out. Zhou Yuan had to seize this opportunity!
...
"Boss, you just agreed like that?" Turner asked incredulously after Zhou Yuan left.
He did not blame Zhou Yuan, as he too had dreamed of entering the special operations forces when he was young. But now things were different; he was the leader of a hundred-person combat team. As the leader, he naturally wanted to keep all good soldiers under his command. And yet, the captain of the squadron had actually agreed to transfer a good soldier to another team, and he could not understand why Campbell would do such a thing without hesitation.
"He doesn't belong here," Campbell replied calmly.
"He exudes a strong sense of confidence and pride that makes him unwilling to be an ordinary person. He wants to do something truly great. But before he goes off to do great things, he is still my soldier. Didn't you hear him call me 'boss' just like you guys did?"
"Take care of the rookies, that's what a boss should do. I hope this will be the last lesson you need to learn."
Campbell put down his cigar, crossed his hands, and held up his chin, his tone very calm.
"Cool..."
The three team leaders were all stunned and felt that Campbell's image had become even more glorious. Perhaps, this was what a real man was like!
