Outside the kingdom of Oxera traveling on a merchant path, a man was rushing back to his house where his wife went into labor.
He was a semi-successful merchant who just finished his business in the neighboring kingdom.
This man was named Christopher and he was Layla's husband as well as Noah's father.
In order to sustain his family, he took up his father's business called the "Fareman Trading Company".
Due to his decision, he was often away from his family having to travel far and wide to make a good income.
After the birth of his daughter Rylee he began to calm down with his adventures. Christopher wanted to instead expand out into other trades and hire people to do the work for him.
Once he found out his wife was pregnant with another child this solidified his decision. In turn, he wanted to go on one last huge exposition where he would finally be able to make all the necessary money to keep his family afloat for decades.
Once his trading was successful and complete he was excited to return home to spend the rest of his life bossing around others and enjoying time with his family.
However, once he got back home the maids greeted him with despair. He knew something went horribly wrong based on their faces.
Christopher immediately called out to nurse Maria to find out what was going on.
He couldn't imagine for the life of him what the problem was. Did the child not make it? Does it have magical powers? Did something happen to Layla? His mind was about to explode.
"Maria! Where are you what the hell happened?" He shouted.
"Calm down my lord and take a deep breath," Maria called out from the other room as she made her way over to him.
"The labor process went terribly. The baby came two weeks early. Layla said to do everything to save him and it ended up hurting her health badly." Maria said in a monotone.
"Tell me what happened, Maria! Did he make it? What's wrong with Layla? Where is she?" He said with a shaky voice.
"The baby, Noah managed to pull through," Maria said with a half-hearted smile.
"Praise be!" Christopher shouted out.
"However, the surgery was too much for Layla's small body. She was able to hold the young baby and name him Noah before her body started to give out. Sadly she didn't make it through the night." Maria said barely being able to look Christopher in the eyes.
"She's dead?" He asked with a plain tone.
"I'm sorry," Maria replied as her mouth trembled.
"That can't be... We were supposed to be a family. I would do my last trip and we would settle down and watch our children grow old. She wasn't supposed to die. She wasn't..." Both his voice and his heart broke at that moment.
"Can I see him?" Christopher asked looking at Maria.
"Of course, follow me," Maria replied with sadness in her voice.
"He's in here," Maria said before telling the attending nurses to open the door.
"Is that the child that killed my wife?" Christopher asked with no emotion.
"His name is Noah," Maria said mad at his words yet sympathetic.
'I recognize that voice... ah! It's my father. He must be back from where ever he goes due to my birth or because he learned about Layla. He will probably be disappointed to learn that she died when she covered me in water particles.' I thought to myself.
'Well, he should be happy to know that I can use water magic. Wait. I probably shouldn't show him yet. Although I'm not from this world I doubt a day-old baby can cast magic.'
'Also when am I going to get feed I'm hungry?' I moan to myself.
"He isn't crying," Christopher stated.
"No. He is in perfect health yet he hasn't cried once since his birth. Not for food nor because he had relieved himself. It is very rare and might be a side effect of his early birth,' Maria said still surprised by Noah.
Nobody moved or said anything for an unknown amount of time as the tension built up in the room.
'Why the fuck are they just staring at me? Do I have something on my face? When are you going to feed me damn it,' I cried out.
The sounds that left my voice woke everyone up from their thoughts.
"He is probably hungry get him something to eat," Christopher said before turning around to leave.
"There's something you should know about the baby," Maria said uneasily.
"What now? What could it possibly be?" Christopher remarked with sarcasm.
"He... he's a mage," Maria said barely able to let the words leave her mouth. "He has an affinity with wind magic."
Silence. After she said that no one dared to speak.
"Impossible! You know those testers aren't accurate towards babies. You can't know for sure until they awaken at 10 years of age," Christopher said unable to believe it.
"While the testers are not accurate we tested him over 20 times and each result came back to say that it was true. They might all be false but it's highly unlikely," Maria said telling only the truth.
"Ha...HAHAH... that bitch really did it. First, she goes ahead and dies on me and now I find out that she had an affair. HAHAHAHAHA what could I have possibly done to deserve this?" Christopher screams breaking his already destroyed heart even more.
In order for a person to be a mage at least one parent must be a mage themselves. Even then it is nearly impossible for their child to be born with an affinity towards an element.
When both parents are mages it drops from being unnaturally impossible to very rare.
Mages being able to have dual affinities in all of recorded history is under 1000 people. Mages able to have triple affinities has only ever be recorded as one. Who was the king of the ancient kingdom that reigned thousands of years before. While there has never been and never should be a mage with all four affinities. Due to the power that they would have to not only conquer the world but maybe the universe.
What Christopher didn't know was that Layla was indeed a mage yet never told anyone not even her own parents for reasons unknown. Whether she wanted to live a magic-less life or didn't want the stress of becoming a mage the world will never know.
Due to Christopher believing that Layla was not a mage and he himself knowing that he wasn't. He unknowingly thought that she had cheated on him.
Nonetheless, Noah's birth is a miracle that he has an affinity with wind magic.
Yet unbeknownst to all not only is he a dual mage with water and wind he is actually the first and only of his kind with a quadruple affinity in magic!
Mages when having offspring can only gift their own element to their kin.
Christopher believes that a wind mage is the father of his son.
That is also the reason why mages tend to marry other mages so that there is a higher chance that their child will have at least one of their 2 elements. Along with the rare possibility of them being dual cultivators.
Normally one would think that these dual mages should have children with each other in order to produce triple element mages. However, not only is there not enough dual mages even if they spent their whole lives reproducing the chances of them giving birth to a triple element mage is next to impossible. Plus with how rare a dual mage is they would want to increase their power and influence as much as possible. They wouldn't want to be cattle used to breed.
Along with the possibility of triple element mages being a myth! Based on the one and only recorded mage being a king that lived centuries ago it could have been easily forged.
The very fact that Noah can use four elements is such a phenomenon and unheard of that even if he proclaimed it to the public they would think he had gone mentally insane.
With Layla's cases of surround Noah in water magic, it was not in fact her giving Noah affinity with the element. If mages could pass on their abilities before their deaths it would cause absolute chaos.
Instead, it was her taking the most absurd gamble that would make any crazy person seem sane.
Layla knowing that she is a water mage and knowing that her daughter doesn't have an affinity with the water element. Plus the fact that she wouldn't survive the night. While being too ill to see the results on whether Noah has an affinity with water magic. She instead went to his room and used all her remaining life force to bless his understanding of water magic unknowing if he even has the ability to use it.
The blessing will barely last any time and will do nothing more than slightly increase his comprehension of the element once he casts a spell for the first time. Yet she did all of this as she took an unprecedented gamble with the hopes of making Noah's life slightly better even if it's just for a while.
Many parents bless their children before their deaths that they know will have a strong affinity with an element as a last legacy. Yet what Layla had done was so insane that she could have wasted her life force because of a one in a trillion chance which just happened to come true.
