StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Scabbing Wounds and Fading Scars

) That is enough now, mortal. You have killed all of the knights I sent to test you, and you didn't show restraint. (

Damn it, I wanted to at least reveal in the glory of a destroyed city... man, if your going to make me have a mor-

) Quite, the next test will be started. (

System! Your back!

Hello, User Cobalt. It is good to see you again, this time without the context of a Neolithid attempting to " test " you.

They can speak??? God damn it, it was a Neolithid this entire time too! I said I would be fine if it wasn't and I for cursed for my hubris!

Agreed, any who the test will start soon and I can't interfere. Good luck

Alright! Let's see what we got!

...

Oh, there we go. I warped to another room, this time it was made entirely of stone... it had a closed door at the front with weird markings above it. Beyond that laid a button on a small podium. After briefly checking the markings and the room itself I deduce it to be a boss fight type room.

It has to be, I mean... its just obvious! The button will open up a door to some sort of boss that will kick my ass in!

First off, I activate analysis... and too my surprise it doesn't work, so I try using the classic system. It worked luckily, this boss might not be too hard... not to jinx myself again hopefully.

I don't seem to have any of my items, but I have my skills.

I don't have materials on me, so I can't make a chimera... I already have a bound undead so I can't summon one. I can't do anything with elementalist because I apparently need some sort of summoning item. I think... oh, I got summon turret!

Syn! Here my call!

Non Combat skills are currently bound.

Rats! Foiled again!

Do I have to fucking fist fight the damn boss... actually wait, I wonder...

I press the button, to my surprise the runes on the top of the door starting glowing one by one slowly, making its way to the center of the spiral design. The room gets darker as they get closer, and I press the button again. The rooms lights back up to its previous state and the timer starts going again.

I fucking know this puzzle. Its straight out of a tabletop game I played with my friends.

I let the counter go all the way down without any fear.

When the counter completes its cycle, the door opens to a portal... that's not similar to the puzzle but I guess he had to change it somehow huh.

I decide to trust my gut and enter the portal.

) Trial 2 completed, congratulations. The third and final one is up next. (

That's cool... how would I fucking fail that though, actually... probably if I took to long.

I wonder what trial three would be, I assume they were based off of me somehow.

Trial 1: My dedication

Trial 2: My Caution

Trial 3: ???

Here's why, I really wouldn't want to kill every human right? But I wouldn't let anything get in the way of me and my family, so it tested me on that. My caution is a big factor, I'm always preparing for something that may never happen and I guess that's supposed to be a wake up call.

So, trials three... it could be either a test to see my personality like 1 or a betterment test like 2, I haven't learned anything yet and just feel inconvenienced.
