StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Soul Tap.

A base level spell every caster learns.

It can be cast without need for chanting or magic circles, but usually the effects are minimal.

The spell is a small burst of mana energy, much like the name it taps the soul of the enemy target which causes mild discomfort and a very low amount of damage.

Unfortunately, it seems that my soul isn't very stable.

My wings forced themselves through my skin by cutting through it like a razor, the light based structures that make up the wings flickered and stuttered... it could barely stand, just like me. I collapsed to the floor and clenched myself against the mind numbing pain. It seems every week this happens. Why me?!?

At least I can think clearly, it isn't like the Violent Blood awakening. It's a level of pain between Awakening and AntHille. It's pissing me off though, because I don't know if I can really end this pain like I did the last time. Fortunately, it seems that the Mage who casted it, the one still trapped within Fantasm, didn't manage to help their situation by giving me another reason to torture their info out of them instead of doing it humanely. With a great heave, I push myself upwards onto my feet. Syn and Arch holding me up surely helps, and with them I manage to stand again. The pain doesn't subside, but it's getting more tolerable.

I point towards the mage, and silently make my decision clear to my group. Luckily, even without words they understand what must be done. Anise grabs and binds the mage with Arcane Shackles as they are released from Fantasm, Dice picks the small robed being by their obnoxious hair and drags her off to some location.

Anise, with a small flourish, casts a spell on me. Level 4 Healing Magic, Calm Mind. Or... at least something similar, it soothes the pain a little more. Enough for me to speak with a slight lisp.

Me - " Juss mach sure we geth the intho. "

I can't believe my lisp was that bad, I should be able to at least get a proper sentence out, however it does seem they understood so that's all that matters.

I see why Anise had to space out every one of her words when she had a lisp, even though I never see it anymore she still makes sure she gets every word right.

Why do I have a lisp?

Whatever, its StarDuster... anything can happen for any reason, this game is just like that ya' know?

Some would say this game is very chaotic and has a short attention span, but at least it makes people happy... and is the only game left supposedly, I tried to exit to the H.U.B. once before and it didn't work so we are stuck here in StarDuster unless we find some weird way to go to other worlds or games.

Ha. Ha.

...

Ahem. Sorry.

So, this brought my attention to the fact that for some reason attacks on my Soul do a little bit more then expected... let's check my health.

Current Health: 2% , Current Mana: 1%, Current SP: -500000%, Current Stamina: 87%, Current AP: 99%

fuck.

Like, shit. I got to figure this out somehow, if knowledge leaks that a simple Soul attack can mess me up this badly... its going to be hell. What is going on with me? I'm sure there is something going on, that mage doesn't have any ridiculous boosts to Soul Tap... that wouldn't make sense.

Let's see... Soul Modifications, Ice Blossom.

... Its this item. This is what is fucking with my soul, isn't it? There isn't a chance I'm keeling this thing equiped, take it off of me!

Request Denied.

OFF I SAY! GET THIS SHIT OUT OF ME!

Request Denied.

... fuck. That means that I have to prepare against Soul Attacks now... how the hell do I accomplish that? It's not like anyone knows anything about Soul Magic, I haven't seen anything on it besides Soul Tap on the Forums.... even the mage forums are empty on Soul Magic.

I can't counter something that isn't known about by anyone, there likely isn't even a way to get proper Soul Magic without some weird quest or event.

I should probably... take a small nap.

I'll sleep it over, recover my HP and MANA... then I gotta figure out what SP is... its not stamina...

AP is Alchemy... so I can assume that A in AP stands for Alchemy. Then P = P, that means SP is the same type of classification as Alchemy... something that is powerful enough to be considered beyond skills, but not Magic.

Fuck, I can't think of anything.

And seriously... why do I have a huge deficit in SP? Is it because of the Soul Tap, or is it the reason Soul Tap hit me like it did?

This is making me angry, for some reason this makes me really frustrated, I think this might be the first counter strategy to me in general... just invest in soul tap and I'm basically negated.

Maybe I'll be enlightened by looking at other people's stats.

Arch has a big SP... maybe he will know...
