StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Conjuration

Like a silver bullet piercing through, the man became physical in only a few seconds. The robes and staff were of very poor taste, and the crowd cheered at his entrance. Looks like Alexander got a little fan club huh?

After waiting a little bit for the crowd to settle down, he started to began a speech of whatever sort... untill he noticed me however.

" Uh, sorry... one second please. Cobalt? Is that you? "

- " In the Code, I got a project that requires a whole lot of Mana... so I'm wondering if I can borrow a few people from the tower? "

" Of course! Your our sponsor after all, it would be rude to decline! I'm actually a little busy right now, I'm supposed to be testing a few recruits. "

- " You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours... let me handle the recruits for an exchange, even stevens you know? "

" I'd be glad, could you come over here real quick so you can tell me about the project? "

- " Course. "

System?

| Really? He's like 30 meters away, just walk or whatever. |

I know, just kidding haha.

I strode towards Alexander while eyeing the crowd, many were confused at our Dialogue and some even frustrated. Maybe they are jealous or something, but I'm not quite sure... actually it's probably because I delayed the speech or whatever.

- " Alright, so basically... I got this metal I need to form into a body, but the metal is ridiculously resistant to alchemy and other such methods... I noticed that Mana can slightly increases the effectiveness of such methods on it, but I'm having a hard time finding mages that can create pure Mana to put into it... do you have such mages here? "

" Oh, of course! We have plenty of people who can do that, what type of metal is it? "

- " Stygnian Bronze. "

" Wow, never heard of that. Where did you get it? "

- " The system gave me some for a quest I got. "

" Neato, so... I need you to make sure these people are strong enough with their magic based on their roles, the scholars are from Sediment Academy, The soldiers are from Paladin training at nearby churches, those guys in robes are from Acat College... the group of ladies there seem to be fangirls. "

So, recruits and such... I don't think those ladies are fangirls by the way, Syn says they got one hell of a Mana signature... whatever that means. Maybe their a special group of female only wizards? That's neat.

- " Alright, how should I test them? "

" I was planning on doing a tournament style thing, what do you think? "

- " That sounds a little counter productive, it would be easier for single target damage wizards to win. "

" I guess so, but I can't think of anything else. "

- " Is everyone there an NPC too? I think we could test them off Mana quality then."

" There isn't any players, usually players only interact with us NPCs to buy or sell something, sometimes to court an NPC too, rarely. "

- " I understand, shall I ? "

" Be my guest, but don't go to hard on them... I want around 20. "

So, how does one test the Mana quality of an NPC... well, in NPCs Mana flows throughout their veins, by messing with the flow of Mana you can determine how strong their Mana quality is by the amount of pressure against it. Monsters typically have Mana Crystals to do that, and players get Mana directly from the system.

I get mine from a Mana core though, so it's purer than other players at least.

I approached the stage with Alexander, and after him giving a speech about ArchMage Tower and it's benefits he began the testing, allowing me to get to work real quick.

There wasn't to many that were able to even barely resist the Mana blockage, let alone put a mentionable pressure on it. Looking at most of everyone's reactions, it seemingly puts alot of strain on their minds just having their Mana blocked for such a short period of time. I completely understand though, it's like having extra senses before losing them.

The most notable were a few from the Acat College, wich seemed to be a little bit older than the others in general. Nobody from the Paladin group managed to pass by the restriction, they clearly weren't used to such a thing and they audibly got frustrated.

Sediment Academy had a few who could resist it, but none could actually stop the blockage. So, the only group left is the female group, quite the bit of them didn't manage to circulate their Mana... but the rest managed not only to resist it, but they also were able to slightly push back against the blockade.

After a few minutes of testing, 2 came from Church's... 4 from Acat .... 5 from Sediment, and the rest came from the group of females. Who, Actually turned out to be an unknown college of sorceresses... go figure.

Not that I care.

But, due to the unique situation of the test... quite the few amount of people didn't feel happy with the results and made sure to let me know about it, much to the dismay of those who complained... they were mocked by their peers for being jealous without any spur from me.

They looked so angry, haha.

Of course, after what happened... Alexander made an announcement that there will be ample opportunities to join after testing via transfer or other such means.

I got no clue, but whatever.

I just want to get this metal done.
