The Star Spangled Hero

The Ghost lay there, his mind flooded. *I failed didn't I...*

He remembered a moment in his life, the moment he was injured in the army, the moment he made a promise.

*Flashback*

The Ghost had been injured once before, in the Army, it was the reason he was sent back home. "How are you doing today?" a woman's voice asked him.

"I failed again, didn't I?"

"You might have not succeeded today, but it all depends on when you get up and dust yourself off that makes the difference between success and failure. You have time to learn this, it took mean years, lord only knows that."

The Ghost smiled at the woman as the flashback faded.

"Come on! We gotta help him!" yelled the Reverend as he rushed into the capital landing a hit on the man. Followed by the Overlord and the Mercenary.

"Come on Ghost! Our people and allies are praying for your victory. YOU MADE HER PROMISE AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT PATRICIA!" yelled Daniel.

The Ghost clenched his fists and stood up, letting out a war cry.

"You're damn right Mercenary. I INTEND TO MAKE GOOD ON THAT PROMISE!"

The others step away from the fight, as the Ghost rolls up his sleeves, then puts his mask back on, kicking his adrenaline booster into overdrive.

"You might be right Shadow, I maybe a disgrace, but I will be an honorable disgrace! I KEEP MY PROMISES! You've toyed with my family, hurt my friends, and allies, YOU'VE SIGNED YOUR OWN DEATH WARRANT!"

The Ghost fakes a left-handed punch, then using his right hand swings his hatchet into the man's ribcage.

"I'll give you the fact that you've done your homework on me, however, whoever taught you failed to mention on key part of all of this. I don't play for anything less than keeps."

The Ghost rips the hatchet out of the man's ribcage and hits him again this time in his shoulder. The Ghost locks the man's right arm in place and using every ounce of anger and strength he had, he fired a series of punches into the man's chest, stomach and neck. The man stumbled backwards only to be met by the Ghost's sledgehammer to the spine. The man yelled as he collapsed to the ground.

"Today I've beaten you not because I'm a symbol, but because I am doing what my master did for me."

"And what pray tell is that?"

"Keep a promise."

With blood running down his face he looks to broadcast and smiles. The with a battle cry, he raises the sledgehammer and removes the more disks from the man's spine. Picking up the man, he raises a rage clenched fist. "You've fucked with my family, now, I damn you to your sentence of DEATH!"

The Ghost pins the man against the wall with his fists. Each of his punches breaking ribs, and with a flip, the Ghost slams the man into the crater he was in just a little while ago.

The broadcast let the dust settle, revealing the Ghost standing over the man. He raised his fist above his head proclaiming he'd won the fight.

"THE GHOST WINS! THE ENEMY IS DOWN AND NOT MOVING! THE GHOST HAS SHOWN OUR ALLIES WHAT TRUE HEART IS!"

The Prince slumped down on his throne, the battle was more excitement than he could handle.

The Ghost picked up his sledgehammer and marched through the gates to meet the remaining enemies awaiting him outside. However, they had surrendered the moment the Ghost had raised his fist.

"No prisoners sir?"

"No, we've killed enough for one day, cuff 'em and take them back as POW's."

Marine One landed and the doctors rushed out to get the Ghost looked at. As the Helicopter took off the battle was over, and the enemy has surrender themselves. However, in the sky, the Ghost gripped onto the handle, he was shaking, his natural pain killers had worn off and he felt the pain for the first time. He took a strong breath of the chemical before passing out.

The doctors rushed him into the clinic once Marine One had landed. His wife watched through the window as the doctors set to work repairing him.
