6 We Will Meet Again

He was standing in the midst of a very dimly lit room. The room was large and had an aristocratic touch. There were paintings of ancient landscapes hung on the wall. All around him, different shaped candles lit up the dark place while a tapestry hung on one side of the wall, showing different branches of a tree.

He stared at it curiously. Where am I? He wondered. He was so absorbed in the unfamiliar place that he did not notice the liquid flowing from his hand. He looked down and to his horror, his hands were covered in wet, sticky blood. He wanted to move but his mind had no control over his body. His hands were clutching a bloodied sword.

"What-"

He was frantically scanning around the room when something grabbed his foot. He looked down to see a gravely injured man, looking up at him with fury and hatred.

"You...you will...pay…" the man whispered. The man looked on the verge of dying yet, there was a manic smile on his face.

He wanted to help the man but his hands would not obey him. He felt a strong pain in his heart as he found his hands lifting the sword in the air. No! He thought. No!

But his treacherous hands swished the sword forward. In a flash, the man was stabbed through the heart. His eyes mocked him one last time before the light was snuffed out.

"You…"

He heard a voice. He turned but the figure was hazy. He could not see the person but he wanted to tell that he did not want to do this.

Believe me! He thought desperately. Please…

But he felt the hostility. Even though the figure standing in front of him was hazy, he felt immense hatred and wrath emanating from it. He could not stand it. The pain in his heart was getting worse as the person struck him.

I had to...he thought but the person turned away and was beginning to leave. Come back! He tried to scream but the figure kept on fading. The person did not look back. He watched in despair as he saw the person slip away. He held out his hand but the person would not come back.

"It wasn't my fault…" Jinhyun mumbled in his sleep. "It wasn't...IT WASN'T!"

He awoke with a start. His breath was heavy and his whole body was sweating as if he had just run a hundred laps.

"What was that?" he panted. He looked at the clock on the wall. It was 3 am.

Just a dream, he realized. It was a strange dream to have. It felt like some ancient period drama.

He tried to go back to sleep but it evaded him. He was too wide awake.

"So troublesome," he said warily. "I wanna sleep!"

Jinhyun hated waking up and that too in the middle of the night. He loved to sleep.

Feeling irritated, he got off the bed and decided to write a new song to kill time. He still had no agency and therefore, his schedule was free the next day. He can always catch up on the extra hours of sleep.

He pulled out a notebook from his suitcase and tried to come up with words. But very soon, he lost interest and began to doodle idly. He had no idea what he was drawing but was just sketching absentmindedly.

"It's so dull here," he said out loud. He had landed in Korea just a day ago and he was already bored of doing nothing. He could catch up with old acquaintances but thought better of it. He was not even sure where they were anymore.

"I think I'll go out," he decided. He put his notebook aside and grabbed his jacket and mask before heading out.

The air outside was cool and soothing. Jinhyun walked towards the park next to the hotel. He walked on, enjoying the greenery around him. It had been a while since he truly appreciated the beauty of his home country. He enjoyed the view of the city from afar. The buildings around the park lit up like bright fireflies, illuminating the scene.

As he was passing by the pond, a sudden shower of fireworks erupted in the sky. He watched in wonder as the colorful lights glittered the night sky.

"Wow!" he exclaimed, excitedly taking pictures. "I should share this with my followers."

"Ummm…"

Startled, he turned around. Standing there was a girl in her early twenties. She had an innocent aura about her as her soft brown hair fell to her shoulders while her face was pale with a soft touch of rosy cheeks.

"Are you by any chance...Shin Jinhyun?" she asked softly.

"Uhh…"

He could lie and deny it since he was wearing a mask but he decided to tell the truth. "Yes," he admitted sheepishly. "But please don't scream! I really don't want to be discovered here…"

"Don't worry!" she assured him with a smile. "I'm a fan though. Can I get an autograph?"

She held out a notebook for him.

"Umm… sure," he obliged. "What's your name?"

"Yoona," she replied. "Sung Yoona."

Jinhyun wrote down a message for her and signed the notebook.

"Thank you," she said happily. "Are you going to rejoin the industry?"

"I'm planning to," Jinhyun said cautiously. He did not want to elaborate further since she was a stranger and it did not feel right to talk about his plans with her. He turned to walk away but the girl followed him.

"I'm really looking forward to your comeback!" she chattered. "Wouldn't it be nice to return?"

"Yeah…" It was all Jinhyun could reply. He was not sure why she was following him and with all his years of experience as an idol, he was on guard. What if she was an obsessive fan?

"My father owns an agency," she commented. "He would love to have you on board."

Oh, Jinhyun thought, feeling a little wary. She was a scouter.

"I'll think about it," he lied.

"Great! Please keep my card then."

She held out a business card. Jinhyun did not bother looking at it and just nodded politely.

"I will," he said, stuffing the card into his pocket. Hopefully, he would never have to use it.

"Give me a call when you get there," she smiled. The girl looked harmless and probably attracted a lot of admirers. Her eyes twinkled innocently as she bowed down and took her leave. Jinhyun watched her retreat and let out a sigh of relief. He loved his fans but really hated it when they leech on him. His normally affable nature did not stretch towards stalkers or haters.

"I hope I don't run into her again," he muttered as he walked away. Thanks to her, his desire to sleep just died.

….

Yoona got into her car. She took out her notebook and stared at the signature. A soft smile played on her lips.

"Shin Jinhyun…" She hugged the book close to her. He was back. He was finally back!

"We'll meet soon, my love," she said gleefully.
