The Injury

As she drove the car home, Lucian had her stop in the middle of the road and point towards an ice-cream store before saying, "I want some ice-cream."

This made Valerie look at him, and before she could open her mouth, he threatened, "I have your secret."

She wasn't going to disagree in the first place.

"Which one?"

"Chocolate and strawberry."

"Stay in the car," she ordered before getting down from the vehicle and crossing the street to go over to the ice-cream store.

The roads were almost empty. Only few people were around, and most of the stores were closed. Valerie entered the store, and after she was done receiving the ice-cream, she stepped out of the store.

Her eyes widened when she noticed the large truck driving wildly in the road.

Lucian, on the other hand, was playing on his phone when his eyes fell on the side mirror. He noticed a truck heading in his direction, and this made his frown before the truck crashed against him the next second.

Valerie's heart skipped a beat, and the ice-cream in her hand fell down.

The truck attacked the car twice before rushing off, and Valerie ran on to the road in panic without caring about the car. Sweat formed on her forehead— her heart beating rapidly in her chest.

The car had dents made on it, and the door to the driver's side was badly deformed. She immediately opened the door and saw Lucian resting his head against the window. It was covered in blood.

"Lucian," she enunciated softly. Her tone was fragile as though it was close to breaking down.

"Ugh! That hurts."

Lucian groaned, grabbing on to his forehead. As he lowered his hand, he noticed the blood over it, and this got him to angrily comment, "Great! Just let me get my hands on that bastard! Is he nuts!?"

Relief spread through Valerie. Seeing how loud he was being, she felt glad. At least nothing happened to him.

"The stores here should have CCTV cameras. I will give you the perpetrator's information in a day."

Lucian didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Here, he was injured, and instead of asking about his condition, she already started to think about how to deal with the truck driver.

Forget it.

It most likely didn't even matter to her whether or not he was hurt.

Valerie reached for her phone and, with a sense of urgency, called her secretary. Although her expression seemed calm, from a closer observation, it could be noticed that her fingers were trembling.

Once the call was received, she ordered, "Come over here quickly."

After that, she hung up the call and sent him the location prior to focusing on Lucian. She watched the man's movements carefully as he stepped out of the car, not moving forward to help him.

As much as she wanted to support him, she couldn't touch him. That will make her lose herself.

Of course, Lucian didn't see it in that way. The corner of his lips twitched at Valerie coldly looking at him. Fortunately, the injury wasn't too bad.

"Is an ambulance needed?" she asked.

"I will live without it," he responded in a humored tone.

Valerie kept her eyes trained on Lucian, observing him carefully to not let anything slip, while Lucian had his eyes closed, leaning against the car.

His forehead was throbbing badly. His features paled considerably, and he was losing blood at a continuous rate.

Should she do something to prevent the loss of blood? But she didn't know what to do. Clueless, she stared at his forehead in distress when a sharp pain travelled through her forehead.

Not again. Not now.

She repeated within herself, trying to keep the side that wanted to escape at bay.

Fortunately, it took around ten minutes for her secretary to arrive. Seeing Lucian's state, he immediately got the man into the car and drove away to the hospital under Valerie's orders.

Once the car drove away, Valerie's knees weakened, and she grabbed on to the car for support. The way the truck crashed against the car repeated in her head, and she found it hard to breathe as her chest clenched painfully.

With her emotions gone out of control, she knew that she was on the verge of losing herself, and she did try her best to not give in. But in the end, she could only submit and black out.

When she opened her eyes the next second, they had a malicious glint to them as the corner of her lips curved up, serving a menacing image.

that's really not how you treat someone who had been injured, but valerie is clueless and lucian cares about his image the most~
