We paused to graze at midday, and he slid easily from my back, taking equine form to avail himself of the plentiful grass. Anger simmered in me as we ate, and I tore at the grass with unnecessary force. He approached me somewhat cautiously when it was time to move on, his human form very vulnerable and small. “Calm yourself, Valde,” he said softly, keeping a few paces between us.
I tossed my head and snorted. Why should I calm myself? Why not charge and trample him into the ground? I could have him a bloody pulp in moments, he was very vulnerable in human form.
“You know you don’t really hate me, Valde. It’s only your geas. Please, be calm. I don’t want you to leave me behind, but I can’t keep up with you.”
