Angel was all the way across the ballroom with a glass of champagne in her hands, but her attention was wholly given over to Darrow. She could make out every feature on his face, having committed them to permanent memory, and right now, there was sheer joy in his expression. But it wasn't directed at her.

It was directed at the woman he was talking to.

Angel knew her. She was some politician that was making headlines recently and as Darrow continued talking to her, her rosy lips spread into a wide smile. She covered her mouth behind one hand and giggled at what he said, and it was as clear as day that she was hitting on him. From where Angel stood, she couldn't hear any of the words that woman was saying, but she knew without a doubt that she was asking him out on a date.

Some women are better off dead.

Angel gripped hard onto her wine glass and in the next second, it shattered in her hands and the shards flew to the ground. Some people near her darted back, shooting her yet another weird glance which she ignored readily. Fisting her hand, she gritted her teeth and continued watching the two of them. Darrow was now leaning towards one of the woman's ears, and whispering something into it. Her expression lit up like a Christmas tree and it took Angel everything in her not to stalk over and slit the corners of her mouth into the permanent smile she seemed to want.

Instead, Angel spun around and headed for the exit. People strolled into the ballroom slowly against her direction as she made her way out of the building. When she reached the garden outside, she made a beeline towards the parking lots. Within moments, she found herself right where she needed to be.

The car was a sleek Jaguar, the colour of midnight blue that shone a little cyan at the edges. It was beautiful, and like most cars politicians like her drove, it was obviously well taken care of.

Angel smiled. She inched her way behind a security camera and threw one heel at it, and the camera fell to the ground. Walking over to the car, she removed a string from her bag, prepared solely for moments like this and slid it through the cracks in the side window. In another few seconds, the car unlocked for her and she held the door open. Reaching into her bag again, she removed a packet from it. Opening the packet, she stuck her finger into the powder and removed it to stick it into her tongue. Tasting it, she let the flavour permeate her mouth. It was good shit, and such a pity that she had to waste it on the likes of some bitch. Emptying packet after packet into the glove compartment along with some full packets on the floor of the vehicle, she left the car and locked it after her.

She took several steps away from the parking lot. As she neared the garden outside the building, she pulled her phone out and dialled the police. Leaning against one pillar, she waited and waited.

The wails were soon heard. Sirens clouded the entire night, and everyone stared at the police with confusion on their faces. The police headed towards the parking lot, surrounding a particular car. They spoke into their radios and hung around the broken security camera on the ground. It didn't take long for some officers to disappear into the building and soon after, that wretched woman left with them to head to her car. She stood before the policemen searching her car, packets of drugs in their hands, asking her questions she couldn't answer.

Desperation soon filled her face. She tried to explain everything away, but the policemen weren't convinced. They fired question after question at her and in another instant, they removed their handcuffs from the back of their belts. The woman baulked at that and turned on her heels to run away.

Stupid bitch.

She sped towards the pillar Angel was at, and the policemen chased after her. Two policewomen caught her by her elbows and all three of them were sent crashing to the ground right before Angel, who stared down at them and only removed her phone to film the entire thing.

"I'm Angel from Brevity," she said to the three of them. "Can I have some words from you?"

The policewomen glared at her as they pressed the woman onto the floor and handcuffed her behind her back. Pulling her up, Angel made sure to let her camera get a good look of her face. Grinning, she captured everything up close and followed them all the way to the police car. The woman was put in the backseat and a policewoman came up to Angel to describe what the situation was about.

Angel only nodded, as if she was hearing it all for the first time.
