Chapter 15: Exploring the biggest mountain 2

Reeves touched the stones and felt something magical. "Findir, I think they have some magic inside them!" while thinking 'Wait a minute, Ray said something back then that stone golems exist, maybe..'

Findir replied. "It should be a magical stone to forge weapons that were common in the ancient times. Dwarfs were good at blacksmithing armor and weapons. They enchanted them with runes." Findir came close to the stone and touched it as they sucked mana from her. Her facial expression changed, and she screamed to Reeves, "Go back. This isn't a normal stone. It sucked nearly my whole mana!"

'Why didn't it take my mana?'

The room trembled. The entrance got blocked by an enormous stone which was falling from the ceiling.

Reeves shouted back, "You dumb princess elf, I said this was not a good idea! Let's hurry and flee!" Reeves looked back and was dumbfounded. "Oh no, the entrance is blocked. Findir, cast your earth magic and destroy the rock!"

Findir smiled wryly. "I can't use magic at the moment. It absorbed nearly my whole magic from me. The only thing we can do is hope that we do not die."

Reeves was speechless. Both of them looked at the stones. The stones appeared to be moving slowly. They formed into a human or elf shape with two arms and two legs.

Roar!

The room trembled further.

Findir screamed. "These are stone golems! I thought they were wiped out at the demons war!"

Reeves replied. "Is this good news or bad news?"

"Actually, this is good news. They protect the dwarfs and they have their own consciousness."

"What if they attack us for awaking them from their slumber?"

The stone golems opened their eyes and looked down at the two people which were Reeves and Findir. The stone golems knelt both down and said something at the same time.

They spoke in another language that Reeves and Findir did not understand." Findir, did you understand them? What are they saying?"

Findir shook her head. "I don't know either."

The stone golems heard the language of Reeves and Findir and changed to the human language. "Welcome foreigner.

You saved us. We thought we would remain in darkness forever. Unfortunately, we had no more strength to move. We slowly ran out of magic. If you had come two years later, we would have died. We are deeply in your debt. We want to pay the debt and serve you until death part us."

Findir and Reeves looked at each other, not knowing what to say.

Findir spoke first. "You do not have to serve us. We are just interested in what happened here. Behind this stone is a grave where many dwarfs died. Do you know what happened?"

The stone golem reacted in rage and roared. "What our forefathers are dead? Who killed them? We must take revenge! No one can kill our forefathers with impunity!"

They stood up and smashed the enormous stone that was blocking the way. They went a few meters away to look around. After some time, Reeves and Findir heard a howl.

Reeves spoke to Findir. "I think they are also surprised that the dwarfs are dead, and it looks like they are crying. Since when can stone golems howl?! This book had something written about their children. Are these the children from the dwarfs?"

"I don't know, but they said their forefathers. Are they considering them as fathers?"

The stone golems came back and asked in which direction the demons were. Findir said. "The demons as a sect no longer exist and were wiped out millions of years ago."

"Millions of years? But the corpses are not millions of years old. They died tens of thousands of years ago! Who killed our forefathers?"

"That... We don't know that either."

Reeves thought to himself. 'If it wasn't the demons and there are elf swords lying around, could it have been the elfs who killed them?''

One of the two stone golems spoked. "We can no longer serve our forefathers or get revenge. There is no place to stay for us. We want to serve you. Please accept us. A new task is what we need. We are the last of our kind. We can protect your home and teach you magic."

Reeves replied. "It would be a shame if you also became extinct. You can stay with us. These halls are huge and it would be a shame to fill them with earth. Would you mind if we use these halls? We can make graves for your ancestors so you don't have to travel anywhere with us. You can continue to protect your ancestors while protecting your new home at the same time. How about that?

Both stone golems replied simultaneously, "What a great idea."

"Reeves, I haven't stated that this will be our headquarters. How can you say anything when I have approved nothing yet?"

"Findir, we don't have to use these halls as headquarters at all. We can use them to honor fallen soldiers. Since the golems want to protect something, why not use these halls as a grave of honor? We could set up our sect in front of the entrance. The stone golems can protect the entrance against intruders. Our descendants would be protected if they should die."

"Stone golems don't protect the dead. They are guards for the living! But I agree we should use this old ruin as a burial ground. As for the stone golems, we should give them another task."

"They said they can teach magic. Why don't we give one the role of Master of Magus, while the other acts as a guardian elder?"

"Reeves, this is a good idea and we don't need to do any tests to see if they are loyal. Stone golems have always been loyal to their masters."

The stone golems looked at them, waiting patiently for a result.

Reeves asked the stone golems a few questions. "Stone golems, what can we call you? Do you have a name? And what do you know about magic?"

Reeves thought to himself 'Since they have something to do with magic they should at least know one thing.'

"We are called Rack and Bon. Our magic is weakened at the moment. At our peak moment, we were in the Archmaster Magus Realm. We also know a technique for getting back into shape quickly. The dwarfs have built a formation with which one can accumulate spiritual Qi in an area. You must know that this area had a lot of spiritual Qi at our time."

Reeves looked astonished. "You are at the Archmaster Magus Realm? Are you able to perform formations?"

"No, the dwarfs have always done that. However, we can give you the technique. This is a utility formation created by the dwarfs. But it's in the dwarf's language. We also can't understand their instructions on how they actually built it. It's useless for us, anyway."

"This would be great! Findir, can you create a formation?"

"No, they use runes for their formations. I don't know how to change that in our way."

"Okay, Rack and Bon, do you want to join our sect?"

"We were once in a sect with dwarfs. Our kind also had its own sect. Our last sect remained here currently at a death status. We don't want to join a sect we want to protect."

Reeves sighed. "How did the dwarfs create you?"

"We don't know. We call them our forefathers because they said they are our forefathers. Is this story false?"

"Okay, Findir, I think we need to roam the world to get more information. It can't be helped. I have no solution to this issue."

"In my elf empire, there is no information on how they reproduced. The information that there are female and male species is new to me. We also have no information on how they were created. The only information we have is from this diary. Apparently, they really are the children of the dwarfs."
