Chapter 23: Plans to Visit the Attic

“What did Kiara say about vampires to give you nightmares?” Clifford asked, looking very intrigued.

“She reckons that anyone amongst us can be one,” Marielle replied. She smiled at Clifford and Francie in turn.

“So, she made you suspicious about your circle of friends?” Clifford asked with a note of concern in his voice. He wondered whether Kiara knew about the rumors concerning his father.

“Practically, yes,” Marielle responded, but she averted her gaze from Clifford as she spoke. “Well, Kiara wasn’t specific. She just said that one should look out and be extra aware of our environment because anyone can turn out to be a vampire,” she added with a shrug.

“Talk softly. We don’t know if there are vampires here,” Clifford cautioned.

Marielle and Francie immediately scanned the people around them.

Clifford silently sighed in relief. It seemed as if Kiara didn’t mention anything about the vampire rumors about his father.
