Chapter 1

On that day everything changed. The people I knew, all died.

As a matter of fact, everyone died except me.

I, Clive Belmont, am the only person alive on this entire planet.

I didn't get to watch how it happened. I was mining.

So when I got to the surface, I was greeted with a scene that could be said to be an imitation of hell.

Scorched earth and rubbles everywhere. The city I knew was nowhere to be seen. Neither were the people.

I stood alone, on the pile of rubbles. I stood still, laughing at the destruction.

Many would say that I am abnormal. Abnormal would be kind of them. Freak, psycho, weird, inhuman, monster; I have been called all of this in just my 17 years of life.

And look, everyone who called me those, have died.

I alone am alive. Now a certain question arises.

What should I do? What do I do? Should I take revenge on those who killed everyone? Should I sulk that everyone is dead? Should I grieve their deaths?

But to be honest, I am not doing any of those.

Think about it, they wiped out all of humanity.

Would I be able to something against them?

The answer is a big NO.

I was not attached to anyone either. I was always met with fear and hatred. I do feel a little sad that my parents died.

However my parents hated me. So I cannot say that I feel anything too strong. I am far too apathetic to actually grieve.

I should prioritize my own survival. Repopulating the whole planet is impossible as I am a male and no female is left.

Again, that should be the last of my worries. I had one simple dream. It was to have plain peace.

Laying on a grass field, basking in the sun as the air caresses my entire body, no worries in the world, is a vision I have had for a while.

But most of this planet is polluted. Even this small piece of habitable land was on the verge of contamination.

I gave up on that dream. But now I have found a chance. I will try do that. But to do so, I have to survive.

This place is done for. No matter where I look, I only see rubbles. This place which was a bustling town even just a while ago, has become destroyed ruins.

This place reeks of blood and there are bodies scattered everywhere. A sane person would have gone mad.

Areeehh!! This is weird. I should be scared of this sight. But I have no problem looking at the mangled and burnt bodies of people.

I don't feel anything even after looking at them. Have I gone insane?

But there's no one around to answer for me. Maybe I have. Or I was insane from the very beginning.

Let's stop with the monologues and start working.

Saying that, I started walking. I should first see if my parents's house is still around or not.

The town is called Daedalus. It was named after a mythical smith.

This was a mining town and was famous for its crafts.

Emphasis on was. Because it is no longer. Roughly 10 hours have passed since the attack.

It should be burning but the flames went out.

When I returned, I saw burn marks and scorched land. But no fire was there.

What kind of technology was used to annihilate humanity? It makes me shiver with excitement.

I want to see that. I am now walking to my house. The streets are burnt. It's hard to walk like that.

But no matter how I look, only places with people were attacked.

Like they were tracking humans. I was in the mines and I was safe. But then I look to left where an underground shopping mall used to be.

It is thoroughly destroyed. That means that just being underground won't save you.

Perhaps there are other conditions. While thinking of all these things, I arrived at my parents's home.

It isn't that damaged. Meaning, no humans were present here during the attack. My parents must have been at work.

I guess this is luck as well. My things are in one piece. I can properly prepare and leave here.

I enter the house and went straight to my room.

Took a few necessary things although most of my things are at my apartment.

All of humanity is destroyed. No doubt about that. So I won't need money. Then I go to kitchen and salvage some food. I would need it for the journey.

And now time to leave this place. I have lived here for 14 years. But I feel nothing that could remotely be said as sorrow.

Probably because of the treatment I got.

Anyway, I should be happy that those attackers destroyed everything.

A normal person would go mad if faced with loneliness. But I have been lonely. And in my lonesomeness I grew up and got accustomed to it.

It won't matter. I exit the house and pay my respects for the dead for one last time.

I am determined to travel around the world. This place was the last place to shelter humans.

Other continents are too polluted. But that was 100 years ago.

It's time to discover. I feel rather energetic about what's to come.

Wish me luck. Though I say that, I alone am left.

So here begins my journey. The only human left will go around the world and see the world. Maybe I can even meet the attackers.

They can come back to look at the situation. But I have to be vigilant too. They would probably attack me as well.

Reminding myself I leave the city and journey towards north where the capital is.
