"My name is Gwen Stacy and I was bitten by a radioactive spider.
And for the last year, I've been the one and only Spider-Woman.
Basically, I shoot webs, crawl walls, and have this nifty little thing I like to call my Spider-Sense, which warns me about danger. With these powers and the web-shooters I cooked up, I swing around town saving people left and right because, well, it's the right thing to do.
My father is a cop, one of the very few good cops out there. He told me that he wears his badge so someone who shouldn't wouldn't get the chance to. That's why I wear this mask. He also told me that we should always do things by the book...
Which is also why I wear the mask.
You see, my dad and the very few good cops out there in the world can't do what I do, not by themselves. What takes them weeks gets done within a matter of minutes when I'm in the picture.
But because of the way my dad and I view the world so differently, I can never reveal my identity to him...
Regardless of what he says, I'll never stop being Spider-Woman. Though... Sometimes Spider-Woman needs a break.
Peter and I are going to the dance later tonight, and I honestly can't wait. He almost never leaves the house, so it'll be good for him. Since he won't make the first move, I'm planning on kissing him tonight during one of the slow songs...
Maybe he'll finally get the guts to ask me out."
Wearing her white and black, skin-tight costume, Spider-Woman swung through the city before perching on top of a building across from a high school, watching as the many students began walking toward the campus. However, her eyes were locked on one boy, Peter Parker. Awkwardly, the young man with brown hair walked with his hands on the straps of his backpack, tripping over a part of the concrete sticking up before catching his footing.
Spider-Woman removed her mask, revealing her young face. She was only sixteen years old, yet she had so much responsibility on her shoulders. She had short, blonde hair and a gap in the center of her grin. Despite it all, Gwen chuckled as she watched Peter stumble onto campus.
Piece by piece she removed her costume and hid it in a backpack she kept stored on that very building before sneaking down the side of it and walking out onto the sidewalk. She then started walking toward campus, excited to talk to Peter about the latest episode of their favorite TV series and the upcoming dance.
However, as Gwen walked into the school's main building, she saw Ned, Peter's bully, pressing him up against the lockers, grabbing him by the collar. "You'll never be a real man, Parker!"
"Okay! I'm sorry, please!" Peter whimpered. Ned was tall, muscular, and looked as if he were already in his twenties whereas Peter was shrimpy, toothpick thin, and a pacifist. There was nothing Peter could do but beg to be released.
"Hey, Ned!" Gwen shouted before stomping over to Peter's bully and yanking him off of Peter using just a fraction of her strength. As Ned's body slid across the hall, Gwen continued to stomp over to him before grabbing him by the collar with just one hand and pressing him up against a locker, denting it. "What did I tell you about fucking with Peter? Do it again, and lockers won't be the only thing dented!"
"Okay! Sorry!" Ned told her before she threw him to the ground. As Gwen breathed heavily, she scowled at Ned before turning around to see Peter fleeing from the scene. "Peter!" Gwen called out, chasing him down before he could get too far.
Knowing Gwen wouldn't follow him inside, Peter fled into the boys' restroom and hid inside a stall before sitting on the toilet where he quietly wept. As he cried, he could hear Gwen's voice calling out from outside of the bathroom, only to then hear the door creak open and her voice calling out once again. "Peter? Are you in here?" she asked, though she didn't receive a response.
Peter covered his mouth to stay quiet, hoping she heard nothing, she would just go away. After a few seconds of silence, the door shut and there was even more silence for a moment. Peter then exhaled, thinking he'd lost her, only for him to be started upon hearing her voice from above him. "There you are!" she said, peeking over the stall with a solemn grin on her face.
Peter jumped and held his chest, looking up at Gwen with his eyebrows furrowed. "This is the boys' bathroom." Peter told her.
"So?" Gwen quipped as she climbed over the stall and landed in front of Peter. "Are you okay?" Gwen's smile faded into a look of concern as she slowly approached Peter, though his body language told her to stay put.
"I'm fine." Peter told her, wiping the tears from his face. "You didn't need to help me, Gwen." Peter then stood up and started walking toward the stall door. He then unlocked it and walked past Gwen and toward the bathroom door.
"I'm not going to just stand there and let these guys mess with you, Peter. If you're not going to stand up for yourself, then who will?" as Gwen said this, Peter stopped in his tracks. He didn't turn around, he just stood frozen in place.
"Yeah, you're right. Everything is going to change tonight." Peter said ominously, which started to horrify Gwen.
"Uh... Are you planning on... Shooting Ned? Not that I don't think he deserves it but I don't know how I'll survive with my best friend surviving life in prison for murder. Who will I talk to about the newest episodes of Cataclysmic Commandos!?" Gwen quipped with a lighthearted voice. She knew Peter wouldn't do anything like that, but the thought of it was still horrifying.
Peter shook his head, smiling softly; though his smile was hidden from Gwen. "That's not what I meant, Gwen. You're funny." Peter chuckled a bit, though he still didn't move as Gwen approached him, looking over at the slight smile on his face.
"Then what are you planning?" Gwen asked.
"Starting tonight, at the dance, I'm gonna try being more like you." Peter's smiled beamed at Gwen, compelling her to smile back and pat him on the shoulder. "Is Mr. Parker finally coming out of his shell?" Gwen teased, prompting Peter to then slap her hand away playfully. The two then started to playfully rough each other up before the school bell rang, signaling that it was time for the two of them to attend class.
"Well, see you later, Gwen." Peter told her, getting a nod in response before the two went their separate ways.
And so, the rest of the school day came and went as it normally would. Gwen wondered what exactly Peter planned on doing at the dance, she even asked him about it during lunch but he never gave an answer. All he'd say is "Wait and see."
Before long, it was the night of the dance. Peter and Gwen were supposed to go together, not necessarily as a couple, but not necessarily as friends either. They agreed to meet inside, though Peter oddly wasn't responding to her texts.
Wearing a dress with a black coat over it, Gwen texted Peter one last time before taking a deep breath and entering the school gym. Immediately, she was hit with bright lights and music, accompanied by some of her friends and classmates waving and greeting her, though she failed to notice due to the fact that she was looking for Peter.
'Where is he?' she thought to herself, checking her phone again to see that Peter didn't even open her messages. After a few minutes of walking around aimlessly, Gwen decided to call instead of text. As she listened to the phone ring, covering one ear to block out the music, Gwen could feel her Spider-Sense tingling.
As if a wrecking ball collided with the wall, concrete shattered and flew across the gym and toward the students dancing, though luckily no one was hurt from the explosion. As the lights flickered and the music stopped, everyone looked toward the source of the explosion, watching as the silhouette of a person began to form through the settling dust.
However, as the dust continued to settle, it was clear that this figure was no man, or at least, not anymore as its razor-sharp tail swayed from side to side. 'Oh, no!' Gwen thought to herself before fleeing behind some rubble to undress herself, out of sight from anyone. Luckily, she always wore her Spider-Woman costume beneath her clothes just in case an event like this were to happen.
Before long, the figure was able to be seen by everyone as dust no longer clouded the air. Stepping through the hole in the wall was a massive, hulking green reptile standing on its hind legs, its razor-sharp teeth having a layer of saliva wiped across them from its tongue.
The monster then looked around briefly, seeming as if it were looking for someone. With each sudden movement, the crowd would scream. The screams of those who'd lock eyes with the monster would be the loudest.
Eventually, the beast locked eyes with Ned, the bully from earlier. Though the lizard creature lacked a humanoid face, it was clear that it had been consumed with rage once it noticed Ned cowering by a table. The monster reeled backward and screeched toward the heavens, spewing its spit while its tongue wriggled from side to side.
The monster's screech was earsplitting, earth-shattering. The ground trembled from its voice alone, only to shake even more violently as the monster sprinted toward Ned with its sharp claws ready to rip him apart.
Everyone cleared out of the way, though Ned was starstruck. He knew the monster was there for him, and that knowledge and fear kept him locked in place. Accepting his death, Ned stood in place, watching as the monster dashed toward him with the intent to kill.
However, like a streak of light, Spider-Woman arrived just in time. "Hey, Godzilla!" she quipped before sending a flying kick to the monster's jaw. The monster stumbled backward, giving Ned enough time to run away.
The Lizard, however, was not willing to let its prey escape, quickly getting back onto its feet to give chase. Despite it wanting to get to Ned, Spider-Woman stood in its way and delivered an uppercut to the monster's jaw. "I don't like that kid either, big guy, but he isn't food." Spider-Woman once again quipped, standing with her hands on her hips as she watched the monster reel back due to her mighty punch.
Furious, the monster set its sights on Spider-Woman and released another earthshattering bellow. Wanting to rip her apart instead, the beast sprinted toward her, leaping in the air with its claws extended.
With ease, Spider-Woman lept in the air and hit the monster with a spinning kick, sending it flying into a pillar that was holding up part of the building. The building then crashed on top of the monster and it began to transform back into a human. "Well, that was easy." Spider-Woman whispered to herself before walking over toward the rubble.
Seeing only the man's hand, Spider-Woman removed the rubble off of the man's body, only for her lenses to widen in horror upon seeing who it was beneath her. "Peter!?" she called out, dropping to her knees and holding the young man in her arms. "Peter! I'm sorry, I-" Before Gwen could finish, Peter spoke in a calm, weak voice.
"It's okay... Gwen." He told her. Though she never revealed that she was Spider-Woman, Peter had known for a while that it was her. The way she'd disappear and reappear when Spider-Woman would do the same, her sudden change in her body, and her obsession with defending the hero from her father. It was obvious.
"I just wanted to prove everyone wrong... And I wanted to be like you. So I made a serum to change me... It turned me into a freak instead." Peter could barely speak through his pain, compelling Gwen to hold him even tighter.
"Oh, Peter. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." she apologized, though in reality there was nothing to apologize for. It wasn't her fault.
"It's okay, Gwen. I realize now that... I didn't need to prove to anyone else what I was. You, Aunt May, your dad, you all showed me love and saw me for who I really was despite others doing the opposite" Peter began to cough, though he powered through it and continued. "But I needed to prove to Ned that he was wrong. I wanted to hurt him. I didn't want to kill him, I just wanted to see if he would pick on a guy his own size. I'm sorry, Gwen."
Peter's eyes started to shut slowly, causing Gwen to panic. "Peter! Don't go to sleep, keep your eyes open!" she told him, shaking him gently. "I can't... I love you, Gwen. Thank you for..." Peter couldn't finish his sentence before the life escaped from his lips with a final, gentle gasp.
"Peter?" Gwen called to him one last time, getting no response before hugging him tightly and as she did so, she could hear footsteps approaching behind her. She turned around to see her father, the stocky runner-up for captain of the NYPD, approaching her with a gun. "Freeze! Put your hands up!" he shouted, though Spider-Woman was quick to flee.
Officer Stacy then sprinted over to Peter's corpse, immediately feeling heartbroken that the young man who he viewed as a son of his had died at the hands of Spider-Woman. "I won't stop until she's put away for good for what she did to you, Pete. I promise you."
