Exhausted

Adrian had chosen the approach of everyone storming in at once, with the warriors being in the front doing a pincer attack. This was the best approach that would ensure that most lives were safed.

He knew that if he had only taken the warriors with him to defeat the demons, another demon might appear from behind. One demon, even the weakest, would be able to kill countless powerless civilians.

having the group follow the warriors, and run straight out of the city, while the demons were in combat, was the safest bet for the civilians to get to safety.

Adrian ran straight at the demon, giving off the strongest feeling, as he left the other nine for the 10 other fighters. With the big group following behind him, he did not even think of trying a sneak attack as he ran straight in with 'Spearman's charge.'

BOOM!

"Blurgh"

"Argh!"

Different reactions came from the clash, most of the human warriors lost in their first encounter. While Adrian and the young man who stood up first were the only ones with minor victories.

Adrian had sent his opponent flying into the city wall, making a small hole for the demon to fit into. While the young man had cut off the arm of a demon with his sword. All the other humans had been pushed back as soon as they hit the demons, one of the weaker humans even threw up a little blood.

The big group of civilians took this chance to run out of the city, going for the forest in the distance. Most of them made it out safely, while some of them still got cut down by the demons before the warrior came to control them.

Adrian could not help but feel both happy and sad. He was glass most of them made it out, but he was sad that some of them had to die. He was not a naive person who thought everyone would survive, but he still held a small hope for that possibility.

Adrian had no more time to ponder about the civilians, as they had already left, and he was still in a fight.

The demon he had sent flying was actually not that big, only standing around 2 meters tall. It had a pair of bat-like wings and a singular horn and its skin was a deep black. It was clearly not a demon of strength, as it was holding two knives, which made Adrian think it was a kind of assassin demon. This would mean it was mainly focused on agility and speed.

The demon had finally freed itself from the wall, as it looked around. It saw that eleven human warriors had come to fight them. It also saw the huge group of civilians who had gotten away.

"Damn humans, why are you so persistent?" The demon had a furious look in its eyes. It seems it had had more trouble than one would expect.

Adrian did not bother giving an answer, as he had become quite angry at the moment. Seeing the streets, coupled with the few humans they had just killed in front of him, made his blood boil.

He charged straight at the demon, wanting to end this with just one strike, but before he had even arrived, the demon disappeared. This in turn made Adrian go into complete alert mode.

*Slice*

Adrian was surprised, as a knife had cut across his shoulder. The demon had appeared out of thin air, going straight for Adrian's neck, lucky for him though, 'Instinct' made him avoid a fatal wound. What surprised Adrian though, was that 'Instinct' had not been fast enough to completely avoid the attack, as it had usually been.

The demon on the other hand was also very shocked by the reflexes of Adrian. He had still yet to find a human who could survive his first slash. This in turn made the demon a little angry, as this was a big hit to its confidence, as Adrian had also not been the strongest opponent the demon had fought before.

*Slice* *Slice* *Slice* *Slice* *Slice*

Five fast consecutive slashes were unleashed toward Adrian by the demon, each hit was aimed at a fatal area. All the slashes did hit Adrian, but none of them left a fatal injury on Adrian. He had blocked had deflected all of them, as he could not really move in too many different ways, as he had been wounded by the earlier demon.

The demon he was fighting did not miss this little detail. In the first slash that was made for Adrians through, he had only evaded by bending his body a little, while this time, he had barely moved the body.

"Oh, it seems like you are wounded?" The demon said as it gave Adrian a cruel smile.

"Hmm, it is nothing much really" Adrian answered with an indifferent face.

"It is enough for me to kill you!" The demon's smile widened, as he disappeared again.

Adrian saw this happen and chose to completely trust in the skill 'Instinct.' He could not see the demon, so he had to use the feeling around him, to discover where the demon was. He closed his eyes, breathed in heavily, and calmed himself down.

He was fighting against a fast demon, but it was an assassin, which means it would be weak in a longer fight. Assassins are known for one-hit kills, and if that does not happen, they will be at a disadvantage. This fight had already gone past the one-hit-kill stage, so all Adrian had to do, was survive the demon's attack until it gets tired.

Adrian was dodging and parried for ten minutes straight, as the demon made an onslaught of attacks. Adrian would not even have had a chance to fight back, even if he wanted to.

Luckily for Adrian, the demon was visibly tired at this point, and the attack slowed down drastically. Adrian was not too happy about this though, as he had been exhausted of most of his energy too. He would probably not even be able to escape with his life, even if he started running at this stage.

"It seems like I underestimated you human, you are quite strong!" The demon said through its heavy breathing.

"Well, it seems like I overestimated you though!" Adrian answered back with a provocation. "I thought at the beginning that I actually might have needed the other to help kill you!" Adrian said.

Suddenly Adrian stomped the ground and pushed his 'Spearman's charge' to its ultimate speed. His spear was pointed out in front of him, aiming at the demon's heard.

*SPLASH*

"In the end, this was all you had!" Adrian stood on top of a blood pool he had just made. The charge he just used had used every single last drop of energy he had, and it had enough power to completely eradicate the demon.

As soon as he saw all of these notifications, Adrian felt his vision slowly going dark. He could feel that he had over-exhausted himself. He bid down though, to stay awake for a few seconds more, to see how it went with the other demons.

Turning to look over there, he saw that 5 warriors had arrived in front of him, looking at him with shocked expressions. They had all seen this last charge from Adrian, and they could not help but feel admiration toward the young man in front of them.

As soon as Adrian saw these five people though, a sad expression crossed his mind as he knew that the other five had been lost in the fight.

*Thud*

Not being able to keep himself awake anymore, he collapsed. He was caught by the young man from earlier though, as he was showing his respects to Adrian.

"You have fought well, let us take over!" The young man looked at the unconscious Adrian and said.

"Let us get out of here, you take care of him!" One of the more experience warriors took charge and commanded the others. He pointed at the young man, for him to take care of Adrian until they found a safe place.
