Training with his mother’s old adventuring partner, however, it doesn’t sound like the path to glory Gwyn imagined. The beginning

"Gwyn!" yelled my mother from outside

"coming," I said back to her as I left the stone house to go help my mother with the laundry then there I saw her, my mother. She was a beautiful blond-haired woman in her late twenty's, it was a bright day in the small farming village named Serec where everyone knew everyone or so they say because I rarely left our house, I took care of the cleaning of the house while my mother would go work, I don't know what she does and I haven't bothered asking.

"Gwyn, are you excited for your fourteenth birthday in three days?" it was on Sunday

"well, to be honest, I'm kind of nervous," I said rubbing my short dirty blonde hair, suddenly a man walked up to the gate of our house, I didn't know who it was.

"James, you're here already? Your three days early." I was able to piece it together, he was here for my birthday, I was confused why would someone I don't know come for my birthday? My mother must have noticed my confusion "this is my good friend James we were in the same adventuring group."

"you were an adventurer?"

the man chimed in "yup, and a damn good one at that."

"anyway, he will take you for a while and teach you the sword, you're a bit old to learn it but better late than never right?" my mother said with a smile.

I sighed "I guess your right, I'll pack my things." I went into the house to pack. Five minutes later I came back out to see my mother standing next to Sir James holding something.

I walked over then my mother hugged me "goodbye Gwyn, stay safe." I hugged her back "of course." Then my mother grabbed the item she had behind her, it was a sword "this was your father's and now it's yours."

I grabbed the sword it was quite heavy but I wasn't focusing on that I was focusing on the fact that this sword was my father's because I've never met my father I tried to ask my mother about him but she would brush it off or change the subject, and now I had my father's sword, I unsheathed it, it was a beautiful blade about a meter in length and 5cm in width with numerous engravings in it. "I remember seeing your father swinging that blade at countless monsters." Sir James said with a smile

"My father was an adventurer too?"

"Yea, me, your mother, and your father were all part of the adventuring group." "anyway, we need to go don't want to be late." Sir James said with a smirk

"Right, goodbye mother" I went to hug her. After our hug, Sir James and I left the village.

"So, Sir James where are we going?"

"Just call me James or something of the like." Sir James said

"Okay, then I'll call you Teacher since you will be teaching me."

Sir James laughed "very well, as for where we're going it's in the mountains." As he said that we got to a carriage.

"Ah, Sir James you're finally here." The carriage driver said, "and I'm guessing this is the one you will be training, no?"

Teacher then spoke "yup he's the one, go on introduce yourself."

"Gwyndolyn Brei son of Mary and Johnathan Brei," I said with a bow

"Mary and Johnathan's kid huh? Ha they were quite the duo, how is Mary?" the driver asked

I replied, "she is doing well."

"good good, no matter lets go we have to arrive before dark," the driver said grabbing the reigns.

Teacher and I just nodded as we entered the carriage, then I thought 'how far away is this place
