Chapter Eighteen

Peggy stood leaning against the nurse's station waiting to hear the results from the hospital ranking on the computer. Marks stood beside her with his arm wrapped around her, Bailey scoffs annoyed, "Back up, you're sucking all my oxygen."

Derek who was leaning over her shoulder laughed, "I'm trying to see."

She throws her hands up annoyed with the man, "It's not up yet! There's nothing to see!"

Erica who was next to Derek scoffs, "it's supposed to be posted at four."

Mark grabs Peggy's arm to look at her watch, "It's4:15."

Christina moves to lean over Bailey, "Hit the refresh button. You have to reload the page."

The woman hits her arm, "I am hitting the button every ten seconds. Just wait."

"Is it up yet?" Peggy tilts her head to see Meredith leaning over her shoulder.

The intern shakes her head at her, "No" Peggy ignores her as she begins exchanging sweet hellos with her boyfriend. She also ignores Alex who walks up behind them asking the same question again.

Mark leans forward, "I'm thinking we move up a slot. We pass Hopkins, move to number one."

Derek scoffs at him shaking his head, "We're not passing Hopkins. We're gonna stay number two."

"Mayo could surge ahead. We could be three." Erica shakes her head at them.

The Neuro attending nods his head at her, "Three? Pessimist."

She scoffs, "Realist. The rankings of teaching hospitals change based on any number of things."

Mark looks at her, "Three is top five. I can live with three."

Alex reaches over to hit the keyboard, "Hit the refresh button."

Bailey slaps him away, "Stay back! I'm doing this."

Izzie comes running over pushing Derek out of the way slightly, "ls it up yet?" Bailey yells at her making the woman reach over to the keyboard, "Here, hit the refresh..."

The resident slaps her angrily, "l am hitting the refresh...!" She turns her chair to yell at all of them, "OK, all of you, back up. Stop hovering. Stop speculating. The rankings will go up when they go up. We have no control over when they are posted. When it is up, l will say it is! Until then, back up. Shut up Leave me alone so l can..."

Peggy points at the screen in excitement, "It's up!"

They all whip around to look at the screen, "Number one, Hopkins. Number two, Mayo..." Hahn mumbles something but is ignored. "Number three, Cleveland Clinic." They all start to panic, "Number four, Mass Gen."

Christina yells out in shock, "What? We moved down to five?!"

Bailey shakes her head, "No. We are not five."

Peggy was walking with the other interns watching the two residents talk when Lexie comes running over. "Oh, hey, sorry for being late I was trying to help..."

Cristina raises her hand to make her stop talking, "No crap unless it's medical"

Peggy gives Lexie a tight smile which the woman returns, Meredith begins to run to her friend. "So I keep having that dream that Derek-is-dead dream."

"You know who does their residencies at a number twelve hospital? The losers and I am not a loser" Christina looks over at her interns waving them off, "Go get the charts."

Peggy and Lexie lean against the nurse's station as the girl looks at her friend, "What's up with you?"

Lexie looks at her confused, "What do you mean? Nothings up with me."

"Come on Lex," She shakes her head laughing. "You have never been late a day in your life. So what could have happened to make you not be here on time."

The brainiac picks up her charts and begins following the two residents who are walking away from them. "I was helping George with studying for his intern exam."

Peggy laughs, "You've been helping him a lot lately. Is there something you want to tell me, Lex?"

She shakes her head, "No! I'm just being a good friend and helping him pass his intern exam."

The girl was about to reply when Meredith raising her voice caught her attention, "Greatness, Which is why I'm going to ask Derek to move in with me. It's just that it's you know, it's a big step and I don't want to mess it up again. I've messed it up before the breakups, Finished break, the on again off again, the sleeping with George..."

Lexie looks over at her in disbelief, "You slept with George?" The two residents turn to look at her making the girl realize what she had said, "No talking unless it's medical."

The two turn back around making Peggy nudge her friend, "So I'm just gonna do it. I'm just gonna ask him to move in with me. You think it's the right thing, right?"

Their pagers begin to go off making them all look down before Christina gets excited, "Uh, oh Bailey's paging.

The two groups split up making Lexie rush to stand next to their resident, "So medically, um Meredith and George had sexual intercourse? When? How many times?"
