She stared at the walls of the corridors as she walked. Was this really a prison? Who would paint an empire’s glorious history in such vivid detail on those walls? Was the jailer really speaking the truth when he said this was where the imperial soldiers drilled? The walls were full of battles. She looked at the battles fought by the previous kings; the battle of Kubjamandala – one of the best last stands in the history of war – this had been a gruesome battle fought by the Shakteya king Ugra Martanda Raya. His forces had been outnumbered 500 enemy soldiers to one. He had been forced to defend the fortress of Kanakapuram against heavy odds.
