Sonic looked back at the four pieces of decayed meat out of morbid curiosity. They just lied there. He thought he saw one twitch a little. He jumped back in fright, only to see it fall limp once more. Anxiously looking back at Sonja, she seemed to be fumbling with a doorknob. Sonic shuddered as he walked away from the gruesome sight... and smell... of the corpses. Towards Sonja.
"Do you need some help here?" Sonic asked.
"I think this is the one..." Sonja grunted. It looked like she had a key! However, it also looked like she was trying to force it into a door that it wasn't for. "Ahhhh...!" She mumbled, as she slapped her hands against the door softly.
"A friend once told me..." Sonic stated, remembering what Knuckles told him what must have been the day before. "The door at the very end is always the one you check last," Sonic said. "You're going straight to one of the doors at the end," Sonic pointed towards the door at the right of the room from the entrance. "We should try this one."
"Okay!" Sonja cheered. She and Sonic dashed over to the door, which had water vapor slithering out from under it. Sonja placed the key into the door, turning it and opening it. The door opened with yet another CREEEEAK. On the other side of the door was a bathroom. It was misty, and Sonic could only make out an object when he was close to it. "It's... a bathroom?"
Sonic took a step forward "Yep..." He muttered. There was a brief splat sound from under his foot. Looking at the underside of his shoe, he had stepped on a cockroach. He cringed. It was... bigger than the usual non-Mobian cockroach. Eh, Sonic was friends with a giant talking bee. So it seemed nothing was impossible on Mobius.
"Ew..." Sonja said, as she shuddered. The cockroach slipped off Sonic's shoe and onto the floor with another splat. The water vapor cleared out of the room. Sonic heard scuttling sounds. The curtain covering the bathtub closed suddenly. Sonic quickly looked over, with a whoosh sound accompanying the movement of his head.
"Do you see a light switch?" Sonic asked. The darkness was killing him, bringing all shapes and sizes of anxiety. Experience told him that things can only get worse if you don't find a light switch in time.
"I don't see much of anything..." Sonja replied, squinting. Then, it seemed like her eyes locked onto something. She quickly went over and pushed a button that blended in with the plastered wall. This turned on a dim light, returning some of Sonic's bearings. Not all, but some. Sonic heard some hissing and chirping from behind the curtain.
Slowly and quietly, Sonic reached out towards the curtain. What could be behind there? As he grasped the moldy, slightly ripped on the bottom and edges curtain, like pulling off sports tape, he swung it open.
Revealing a colony of HUGE cockroaches! They were bigger than Sonic himself. They scurried everywhere. On the walls, on the ceiling, and on the floor.
