CHAPTER FOUR

"Why?..... Why?.....WHY?WHY?WHY?!! AS IF WE DON'T HAVE NOUGH ISSUES YOU GO AND BLOODY ADOBPT A CHILD!! A FUCKING CHILD." Chris yelled, veins popping on the sides of his forehead.

Helix slowly gets up and dusty the dirt of his body.

"Great now my clothes are torn. I need to change."Helix muttered ignoring his brother. A clear sign that he had no plan on explaining himself to Chris at all.

Chris sighed and breathe in to calm himself down. He couldn't lose his temper at the moment.

"U smell like alcohol and women." Helix commented before chuckling. Chris who could never resist his little brother's chuckles laughed. It was always like this. Chris does something stupid, Helix does something worse.Chris gets angry at Helix then he ends up letting Helix get what he wants.

"It was for work this time." Chris said before flopping down on Helix's bed and Helix did the same thing. This was how the two of them always were. Without a care for the world. Just in their little world where only the two of the mattered.

It had been this way since they realised that their parents didn't bother with them. Just them two.

"Work? Stop lying through your teeth!" Helix reprimanded. Not believing his brother, not even a little bit.

"Ok it started out as work. I was sniffing around for magic traces that could lead us to witches...."

"I thought witches use glamour to hide the scent of their magic."

"They do, but ones without a convent don't know about glamour. And I feel like the witch who killed vanguard wasn't from a convent."

"Oh. Then what happened? I am sure it wasn't all work no play."

"Well.....you know one thing led to another and stuff happened."

"If only someone could tell you are a school teacher. Imagine your students finding out about your scandalous life. "

"They won't."

"Yeah yeah." They both burst into laughter.

"So who did you adopt?" Chris asked finally bringing the main focus topic up.

"Jacob.His the boy I brought in."

"He will soon die. Why do such an unnecessary thing?"

"Actually he is almost completely healed?"Helix answered as if what he said wasn't something huge.

"And how did you find out his information?"

Unlike the rare but actually existing vampires and the dream riders, were dire-wolves could not read peoples minds. That is with only one exception.....

"Wait. Did he?" Chris asked confused.

"He survived the bite. "

"No fucking way..." Chris, who shocked suddenly burst saying. Surviving the bite was close to impossible for the were-dire wolves themselves leave alone a human.

There was only one case of a human being turned into a beta and that was after he was turned into a were-dire wolf. Keep in mind that the human lived during the sixteen century. So it has been a long time such a miracle had happened.

However much the news came as a surprise, Chris felt like there was more to the story than Helix was telling him. A behaviour he was used to. Like for example when Helix began fanging and went through a series of pain. He told absolutely no one and kept it all to himself. It was until he collapsed from immense pain that Chris found out what he was going through.

Although the process is not that painful for most wolves, it is different for the alphas. Their fangs tend to be unbreakable and with the ability to kill anyone or anything with one bite. This ability is made possible by the venom in their fangs and as the fangs form in the young wolves, the venom also enters their system making the body immune to it. Before the immunity kicks in the pain takes over rendering the little wolf completely powerless.

"Are you sure you are not doing it because of Vanguard?" Chris asked. He had a feeling that Helix's impulse decision might be connected to Vanguard.

Vanguard wasn't something as impressive as an alpha nor was he a frontline wolf. He was more of a shadow wolf. Shadows were-dire wolves are ones that collect information. This is due to their ability to completely erase their existence and hide inside other peoples shadows. Vanguard however never accepted that he could never become a warrior wolf because he lacked the strength. He always felt like he was destined for more than just a mere spy.

In a fit of trying to prove himself, the then sixteen sixteen years old Vanguard decided to duel with Helix. The annoyed Helix only scoffed at him and walk right past Vanguard. That was at six in the evening near the river that was in the woods not far away from the mansion.Which was Helix hide away area. Although not all pack members lived in the mansion most of them spent their days there.

Angry that Helix treated him as insignificant Vanguard threw a punch at Helix who easily caught it before breaking Vanguards wrist. Vanguard fell down writhing in pain and the last thing he saw before he passed out from the pain was Helix smirking.

A rather weird way for two wolves to interact and honestly none of them actually interacts this way. But no one could erase the way the two teenage boys actually first took notice of each other. This untimely, awkward and painful encounter set into motion the friendship of two completely different personalities.

"Vanguard is another story. Jacob and Vanguard are completely different people."

"So why did you do it?" Chris asked trying to make sense of Helix thought process.

"The weak ones.....they are dying."A pause fill the room as Chris slowly starts to realise where Helix was going with the conversation.

"Nothing would have happened to him. The pack would obviously protect him...."

"But he is a run away orphan. He has to worry about the cops and also the hunters. And since I am now responsible for him. I want to remove all the obstacles that might hinder his growth."

"If a beta dies you can contract a new one. Why do you care for him and he doesn't even know you yet." As I had previously stated, Chris cares about no one except Helix. And the reason he takes cares of the pack is because he considers it the only thing that their parents truly left for him.

"Twilight. When she left you after you gave her everything, you felt hurt. It was the same thing when mom and dad neglected the both of us. We both felt abandoned with nothing but each other. Everything that the others thought we had and the happy family the painted of us was all a lie. That's how the child feels. I can't just leave him all alone. I can feel his feelings Chris. And they are the same.I just can't do that to him."

"Brother you are only twenty two. How will you raise a teenager. I mean, I am a teacher and I can tell you they are nothing but a bunch of pesky animals."

"I have you to help me."Helix said smiling mischievously at Chris. Chris starred long and hard at Helix.

"Why do you always do this to me?"

"Well you are the one who spoilt me since childhood so blame it on yourself."Helix answered smiling from ear to ear before getting up from the bed,"Oh can you please enroll him into your school. All his papers are included in the file Clerk gave you."

"Wait, you ranted you're self out! You gave Clerk the papers!"Chris exclaimed.

"Well how else was I suppose to get you to help me out. Jacob will wake up soon. So before that, please be ready to welcome your new nephew home."

Helix said as he walked towards the door.

"How bad is it?" Chris asked before Helix left.

"The feeling I felt from the bond were painful. Just like ours."Helix said his face turning serious for a split second.

"You are not leaving me in your room are you?"

"I'm just going out to get ice cream. Can you get the maids to fix it up and get me a new table." With those final words helix disappeared behind the door.

"Spoilt brat." Chris mumbled. 'When she left you after you gave her everything, you felt hurt'. Twilight was still fresh in his memories and what Helix said proved it. Because her name made his emotions tremble with a vigour.Chris hated it. If he could he would erase her completely from his life. But at the same time he didn't want to.

She was the only living creature that he wanted to kill snd love at the same time.

"You better be worth my brothers care and attention."Chris mumbled as his mind went back to Jacob. He could kill Jacob himself. But he wouldn't . Not now, but when he betrays Helix he would kill him slowly and painfully. Just like all the others that came into Helix's life and left after hurting his feelings.

Helix unlike what he seems was a fragile creature and the only key to Chris' heart. This is the same reason Helix wouldn't fight for the pack leader seat. Because he cared about Chris. Honestly Chris would have given it to him in a heart beat if he asked for it. He would even use himself as a shield to protect Helix. Twilight was a mistake that would never happen again. A distraction that only distracted him from his original role. Making sure Helix was happy.
