Something to Hope For

"Where is the paper?¿" Kayla thought looking around in the dark for the rumpled pieces of papers on the ground. The orphanage were she lived was very beautiful, beginning from the ancient walls that had it's own story to tell down to the old furniture. Everything here was different she thought drifting off. "knock" "knock" She heard making Kayla turn around. "Oh gosh, don't tell me i'm gonna be caught again" she thought trying to hide. It had became a habit for her sneaking up to Mrs Theresa's office always looking for her bio but always got caught in the end. It was already too late to think when the door suddenly burst open revealing a little figure standing by the large door. "Mrs Theresa, are you there?" the little figure whispered walking into the room. The room was small with large shelves which held different files and a long couch beside it, by the left hand side was a wooden framed table and chair that was obviously for Mrs Theresa. This was her office in the orphanage. Kayla hid under the table hoping that she wouldn't get caught in the office because who knows what punishment she would been given this time around. Peeping outside the table she saw a little girl. "hmmphh" Kayla sighed crawling out of the table . "Aaaah" the little girl screamed seeing kayla come out from the table. "Shhhh" Kayla whispered.

chapter 3: A Way Out

Kayla was tired after the long hours of waiting for Mrs Theresa, it seemed like they abandoned her and never came back, Kayla had been waiting since 5:00pm until she fell asleep but nobody came. She was relieved and at the same time sad "maybe they changed their minds" she thought as she stood up from the bed. Now she was thirsty but thinking about the earlier incident made her have second thoughts on leaving the room. It was midnight and all the crows were hovering outside above the orphanage giving it a spooky appearance. The full moon shone brightly making everywhere bright as it pierced through her little window providing light to the room. Actually Kayla stayed in the old and smallest room, since the day she had a nightmare the other children made her to leave the room after saying she was a witch. It was Mrs Smith that found her a room to stay in, always providing for her. "what a kind woman she is" she unconsciously whispered walking back to her bed. Her bed was positioned near the small window, the walls were already peeling showing how old the room was and the pale bedsheets on her bed. When she climbed on her small bed the squeaking noise could be heard, Kayla wasn't bothered as she was already used to it. Ignoring the noise, she just laid on the bed looking at the ceiling "everything here is just different , starting from Mrs Theresa, Mrs Smith ,the orphanage itself. I have to leave this place no matter what happens and Mrs Theresa..." as many thoughts ran in her "Bang" "Bang " she heard out the window, glancing over the wooden frame she saw two women outside the court yard discussing. The court yard was outside the orphanage where different trees and flowers grew but it was surrounded by dandelions, surprisingly she could hear their conversation.

"she has to be sent away from here as soon as possible, if not who knows what will come after her again" the woman in a dark robe said. She was covered from head to toe in the cloak she wore, her face could not be seen only her voice could be heard. "I assure you that she will be safe if she marries him.." the other woman responded.

"No I disagree if she gets into the wrong hands that's all for us u know" the first woman replied with a dry smile "someone is watching us" she whispered. Immediately looking up as if staring at something, making Kayla to lie back on the bed, her breathing was heavy as her heart beat filled the room. Kayla just stayed on her bed afraid she might get caught. She was really a character, with all the things that had happened lately it didn't change her one bit only making her curious. She had the guts to face anything but was kind hearted to hurt a fly. "who is that woman?, was it me they spoke about or not?,how do they know..."?? with different thoughts and assumptions running in her head she stood up from the bed and sat on the ground running her slender hands through her blonde hair in frustration. "Aaaaaah" she finally screamed lightly in frustration standing up from the ground .

"There is something going on in this place and I have to find out " Kayla said at last walking towards the door. She allowed her curiosity take over her this time. Kayla wore a big blue cotton pyjamas that was actually the only one she had and her hair was let down on her shoulders. She opened the door lightly peeking outside, but nobody was in the passage. The passage was long, straight and firm with many old paintings hanging on it.

At this time of the night, everything looked different and scary. Kayla gulped as she closed her door silently walking in the passage tiptoeing "on a second thought, this is actually creepy walking about all alone in these walls "Kayla admitted

as if her thoughts were read she immediately heard a" thump sound" in kitchen downstairs she quickly ran to the passage leading to the large free area where different chairs, tables, and other house equipment were kept in the orphanage, after the free area was a grand large staircase, it was solid and firm despite how long it might have been there, it was made of a shiny metal like silver leading to the different children's rooms. The little kids stayed downstairs while the grown children stayed up. We hardly got to even see them, it was like we were in two different worlds but in the same place . She was skeptical on going downstairs as she stood on the grand staircase but again there was another sound from the kitchen making Kayla tighten up as she walked slowly downstairs. the ground was moist and cold as her bare feet touched it making her shiver, there was a large wooden table in the middle of the room with matching medium size chairs, the similarity with upstairs was very little. The windows were circular and large with long golden curtains drooling over it. She wandered around admiring the place as she began to walk towards the kitchen. On reaching there she saw a little girl lying on the bare ground Kayla was shocked by what she saw next.
