Some Fine Day

This is the story of how Emery Walters became whom he was supposed to be.<br><br>I knew I was male at an early age, something that was a societal no-no in the 1950s and still is in parts of the country today. Burying my male identity, I strove to be the best woman possible. But after raising my four wonderful children from two debilitating marriages, I found myself alone and nearly penniless. That was when Emery asserted his identity.<br><br>Life became better with the shift from female to male, a third marriage, and a wife who, herself, transitioned from male to female.

That said: a couple of other good friends I have now are both young mothers, one straight, and one not. Go figure! I’m grateful.

You mean ‘My Alternate Life’?

If I’d been a boy, I would have been named Alan, after my uncle. Considering they had hoped for a boy, well, one wonders if that can affect the brain or hormones of a developing infant or what. Anyhow, Alan would probably have killed himself, being a real-life boy version of hyperactive, exploration oriented, afraid of nothing Carol. If he did not, he would have reached puberty and all would have been perfect.

Probably age ten, still in Marine City, I wouldn’t have been teacher’s pet! Though as adorable as I am now, I might have been irresistible as a boy. I can imagine my taking Dad’s little rowboat with its five HP engine and heading for Canada.
