A few hundred years ago, a colossal tower-like structure emerged unexpectedly from the depths of the northern Atlantic Ocean. This massive structure covered nearly 70% of the area where it surfaced, displacing the oceans and triggering enormous waves that inundated almost all continents. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions followed suit, causing widespread devastation. Countless lives were lost, and many more faced complete loss. Within months, nearly 80% of humanity perished, leaving the fortunate few to seke out survival atop mountains or beneath the earth's surface. Time passed and eventually the disasters subsided so people sought to return to their lands. However, things didn't end there. Strange, mystical gates materialized randomly across the globe, unleashing mythical monsters the world had never seen. These creatures were violent, hostile, and exceptionally powerful. Humanity found itself confronting the unpredictable wrath of these beasts, resulting in further chaos and death. Amidst the despair, it seemed like the end for the human race. They were powerless against these creatures. Until one day, inexplicably, certain individuals began witnessing peculiar holographic images appear in front of them along with unique super powers. Thes eunique individuals began fighting back against these monsters, gaining strength with each conquest, transcending their feeble human forms. Thus, the 'Era of Rankers' began. *** Arthur Sorazon, a prodigious Ranker at the age of 30, faced betrayal by his clan, losing everything he held dear before being incarcerated. For the next decade, he languished in solitary darkness within a cell until an opportunity for escape presented itself one day on a silver plate and so he ceized it. Little did he know that this escape would propel him onto a path to becoming the greatest Ranker the world had ever known. Except, everything will rewind for him from the very beginning.
On an island, far away from the mainland of South Korea, precisely 1500 kilometers to the west exists a small island, no more than a few hundred kilometers in area. Many people heard about this island from rumors and bits and pieces of news that reached them.
However, most people have never seen it before in their lives and the reason is simple. This island is a restricted area that no one without an official permission from the government is allowed to enter. In fact, the government itself issued a warning that anyone who dares to bypass a designated line of security around the island would be shot without any warning.
Many people questioned why the government decided to make this place. But, what they knew for certain was that it wasn't a normal place at all. Or to be more precise, what was on that island wasn't normal at all.
'The Blind Devil Maximum Security Prison' or The Blind Devil for short is the prison that was built on that island a few decades ago and it was and still is by far the most notorious, dangerous and horrible place on earth.
This prison contained the worst of criminals the world had ever seen and not any normal criminals. Precisely the 'Rankers' that committed atrocious crimes.
A few hundred years ago and out of nowhere, a gigantic tower-like structure emerged from within the depths of the northern atlantic ocean. The structure was extremely massive, covering almost 70% of the area it emerged from. The space it took pushed the oceans away, creating gigantic waves that drowned almost all the continents along with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
Countless people died and even more lost everything they owned. In a matter of a few months, almost 80% of humans died and the remaining lucky few were able to escape death by living on top of mountains and under the ground.
That period of time was called 'The Great Beginning' and the reason it was called the beginning was because all these catastrophes were merely the start of the tale, the tale of humanity's fall and rise.
After the end of the tsunamis and the destruction and when people thought they could finally return to their lands, weird things started happening.
Randomly, bizarre magical gates would appear around the world and out of it emerged mythical monsters that this world has never seen before.
These creatures were violent, hostile and extremely strong. Quickly, humans found themselves facing the wrath of these unpredictable monsters. Even more people died and the hope the people were starting to gain back, was destroyed again.
Many thought this was the end for the human race. They had no way of fighting these creatures at all. Until, one day, and out of nowhere. A group of people started seeing weird windows in front of their eyes and their bodies started gaining abnormal abilities of different varieties.
These special abilities gave them the means to kill the monsters for the first time. That moment was extremely pivotal as after that, humans started gaining these weird abilities along with holographic windows that helped them evolve quickly and swiftly.
In a matter of few years, humans were able to shed their weaknesses and started taking control over the world again. Eventually, humanity stood up on its feet again and then finally looked in the direction of the behemoth of a structure that could be seen from every part of the world.
The tower that was the beginning of their misery and their pain, the tower they always thought was going to be the last thing they will see before their end, was now their target.
That was the beginning of the true Era of Rankers and what they discovered inside that tower was the thing that shaped the future of humanity. Hundreds of years later and the world finally completely healed from the scars of that disaster and evolved far beyond anyone's scope of understanding.

"Miss Emilia, good evening, I'm General Sun Dae-Jung. It's a pleasure meeting you."
Standing near the only port of the Blind Devil island, a man clad in military costume greeted a woman that just descended from the boat. The woman, wearing a professional costume and carrying a notepad, was followed by a group of guards, clearly there for her security.
"Nice to meet you, General Sun Dae-Jung. It's my pleasure to be the first reporter to step on this island after my news channel gained permission to take a look into this place." The woman named Emilia replied as she shook the man's hand with a serious look.
However, the man's face frowned slightly. "It's not something you should feel glad about, Miss Emilia. This place should never see the light of day."
General Dae-Jung was clearly sending her warning signals through his words, but not in a direct way which Emilia easily picked up on since this was her job. Still, she smiled confidently at him and replied.
"Everything should see the light of day, General. The world should know."
"..." The man stared at her grumpily for a second before he turned around and signaled for his soldiers to take their position.
Since he was there with a whole battalion of men that took positions on both sides of the road that led to the prison entrance. However, before Emilia could walk, the General stopped her with his hand and said.
"Please give us all your electronic devices. You're only allowed to carry that notepad in your hand. Tell your guards to do the same." He added.
Emilia didn't immediately move as she gave him a side glance. Then, she sighed, put her hand in her pocket and pulled out her phone and her watch. She then signaled for her guards to do the same.
After giving everything to the general, he finally nodded his head and turned around. "Follow me."
After that, Dae-Jung, Emilia and her guards walked through the path that led them through a thick, bushy forest.
Emilia looked around her curiously. "Is there a reason for the existence of this forest, General?"
"This forest is the last line of security. We keep a plethora of monsters living in that place that are raised to listen to our orders. If a prisoner ran through this place, they would be instantly attacked and killed with no mercy. If they can escape the prison, that is."
Emilia raised her eyebrows when she heard those words and turned to look at the thick trees around her. A subtle feeling of dread filled her heart. But, she still composed herself and asked.
"And what are the ranks of these monsters?"
"They vary, most of them are F-Ranked, some are E-Ranked and some are D-Ranked. We have a single C-Ranked monster here too but that one isn't left to roam this place alone since it can be quite unpredictable." He said.
'A C-Rank monster? How did they even raise an abomination of that level? From what I know, the higher the rank of the monster, the harder it is to control it.' Emilia thought to herself as she noted down everything the General said.
"And how are you sure they won't attack us now? Do you have countermeasures in case these monsters get out of control?"
"I have confidence in my men, Miss Emilia. We have worked for years to raise them. As long as you don't do anything worth letting these things loose on you, you're safe. But, just in case, keep yourself next to me. You never know what those things could do."
The group continued their walk through the forest and finally reached an opening where the giant prison finally appeared, intimidating as it could be.
Its thick, metallic walls were tens of meters high. Even just looking at them made Emilia realize how strong those walls were. She estimated that even a fairly powerful Ranker could leave a dent in them.
On top of these walls were a layer of wires, and countless high-technology lazer cameras that seemed to control automatic guns that would fire the moment an unidentified element appeared in the periphery of the prison.
The gates were made out of enhanced steel with a thickness of almost 3 meters. They also had lazer cameras and at least 6 guards watching over them every single second of the day.
Emilai's expression visibly changed as she felt her heart race. A weird feeling of coldness filled her body as her instincts started going off. Something was wrong with this place, very wrong.
'This is… ridiculous. The security is far stricter than I expected.' She thought to herself as she noted down all these details. However, deep inside, she knew that it wasn't merely security, there was something far more terrifying, and if she had to guess, it was inside this place.
The General noticed that Emilia had gone silent so he spoke. "What do you think?"
Emilia raised her head and looked at him with her eyes wide. "Is this really a prison, General?"
Hearing her question, the general's face went from stoicness to a cold smile as he replied. "This isn't a prison, Miss Emilia. This is the Blind Devil."
