4 Thomas Andre

A huge, muscular man with long blonde hair, red eyes, a toothy smile, an overgrown blonde goatee, and black tattoos was seen standing next to a trash bin. He was dressed in his trademark Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, beach shorts, and sandals.

Moments before, he had left the bar and was about to return to his hotel when he heard faint crying noises from nearby. Curious, he decided to check it out. When he finally found the source of the voice, he realised that it was a newborn baby wrapped up in a blanket and placed next to a trash bin.

He didn't know what came over him, but he felt the overwhelming urge to pick up the baby and raise him as his own. Left with no choice, he did just that.

The next day, he immediately left Korea and returned back to America with the baby.

Time Skip: 22 years

After being adopted by Thomas Andre, Perseus was groomed to be the successor of the Scavenger Guild and started his training at the tender age of 3.

When his father saw his immense talent with the sword, he immediately hired talented and renowned swordsmen across the continents to train his son. Yet after a week of sessions they all left while saying something along the lines of

'his swordsmanship is already outstanding, and his techniques are so refined and legendary that we have no hopes of it being passed down for future generations.'

'He created his sword technique before the age of 10, no doubt a prodigy of the sword.'

'In a few years, we would be the one seeking guidance from him. Hahaha'

Although each swordsman said something different, at the end of the day, it all boils down to how his son was a natural born swordsman.

Those words only solidified Thomas' decision of making Perseus the next Guild Leader of the Scavenger Guild.

For the next 19 years, Perseus went through hell and back, constantly refining his sword technique and other skills until he was strong enough to become the next guild leader.

When he was 22, Perseus finally beat his father for the first time. Although that incident was kept under wraps, almost every high ranking executive in the guild knew about the incident, and cemented his position as the Scavenger Guild's next guild leader.

"Old Man, let's go. I'm gonna be late, you know?" a handsome man with short raven black hair, beautiful crimson eyes and sword-like brows shouted as he ran down the stairs of his mansion.

He was about 6 foot 3, with broad shoulders and had a well-built muscular body. His upper body was riddled with scars he received while training or when he was clearing gates.

Contrary to his father's casual dressing, he wears luxurious suits befitting of his noble status that were custom made to be as comfortable as pyjamas, and as durable as Rank D armour. When coated with his mana, the suit would be able to reach Rank B defence.

"It's fine. Why are you in such a hurry anyways? It's just a rank evaluation."

"Oi Old Man. Don't tell me you forgot your promise."

"I didn't you brat. I just don't understand why you would want Kamish's Wrath. You are a prodigy in the sword, not the dagger."

"I probably dropped you too many times when you were a child for you to become like this *sigh* "

"Fuck you old man. Hurry up and go already."

"Yeah yeah… shitty son."

As they were bickering, Perseus managed to drag Thomas out of his house and bring him to the garage.

There, Laura was waiting for them. Seeing the both of them arguing as usual, Laura's brows wiggled. It was apparent she was used to a sight like this.

"Shall we go now?"

"….Well, it's a little late. Let's go."

Perseus barely heaved a sigh of relief as entered the car along with his father.

Laura drove out of the mansion in a luxurious vehicle. Such sight and view, it was only possible because of his father––a large mansion with a large garden would often show one's vast wealth.

Was this really New York? Who could build such a mansion almost the size of a school in the heart of America? It was unrealistic and what was all the more surprising was that Perseus lived alone in such a grand mansion except for those responsible for management, surveillance, and security living under his roof.

The vehicle soon arrived at a complex skyscraper located in the heart of America.

Perseus remembered reading this in the novel.

Thomas Andre owned the building. It could be said that this building is the Scavenger Guild's Headquarter, and is the tallest building in the world.

It was a landmark that represented the soul of America, boasting its reputation that easily surpassed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The Scavenger Guild is the strongest guild in America, and due to how large it is, the guild operates all over the country and sends their members overseas from time to time to other countries that are incapable of clearing gates on their own.

Moreover, the materials used to create the skyscraper came from materials and ores in gates. The ores used are relatively rare and can only be found in Rank D gates and above. Acquiring them were not cheap, and its durability is stronger than Diamond.

"….This is…"

The height of the building was frighteningly huge.

As they pulled into the private parking lot of the Skyscraper, Perseus loosened his tie and rearranged it neatly.

"Let's go, or you'll really be late for the rank evaluation."

Nodding his head, Perseus followed his father out of the car and entered the skyscraper. They went to a door locked off from other guild members. Turning to a closed-off path, the three entered an elevator. It quickly reached Floor 201.

Floor 201 was a place where only the guild leader's family or those with exclusive access were permitted to enter. There was a headline in the news once when a famous U.S. politician said that he wanted to enter Floor 201 once in his lifetime.

Perseus stepped out of the elevator and walked into the dimly-lit hallway. Artefacts were displayed in various places, but not quite common. There were bones, teeth, ores, and one whose identity was unknown. There were also swords and shields that glowed strangely.

Fantasy seemed to merge with reality at this moment.

"What a primitive weapon to use in the 21st Century…."

This may have been the case before the gates appeared. But after they appeared, mana based weapons caused a sharp drop in the power of modern weapons. Even a low E Rank person can defend against firearms to a certain degree.

Soon, they reached his father's office.

The guild leader's office was spacious. Rather than an office, Perseus felt as if he was looking at the courtyard of a mansion. Looking out the window, a panorama of the city was in full view. As he walked further inside the courtyard-like office, the view of the city had long turned to a mountain view.

It felt like the glass was a display of the near future.

This was expected of the strongest guild in america.

"Get ready. Your rank evaluation will be live streamed to the whole world. Don't disappoint me."
