Solitary Vampire

It’s the year 2357 on earth and the world has been at war in a three battlefront against humanoid lizards gifted by magic called dragonkin, aliens that had far more advanced technology called the Xalorians, and the remnants of angels and demons called ShadowFallen.  No to mention the aggressive beasts that roam the universe Through the war humanity has grown too big to stay only on earth, having finally gone to space and occupied planets that one could only dream of, but the universe’s mysteries are far and wide but closer than you may think. Rosaline, a young 16 year old girl, had been given a book to her by her dead parents that had died on the battlefront against the dragonkin before humanity and the Xalorians signed a treaty in the name of ‘preventing’ war and to deal with the powerful dragonkin. Like that treaty had ever stopped war and the Xalorians being hostile towards humanity. But no matter how hard she tries to open the book it wouldn’t give her face, not even pouring acid. But one day just before she goes off to her new military school after middle school, she accidentally poked her hand and a drop of blood fell onto the book.  A system appeared giving her a chance to become stronger, thinking this was a miracle. What she didn't know at the time was that it turned her into something not human. A Vampire. ********************* This novel was inspired by a lot of different media that I have seen so you may see some similarities between them. I will make sure to mention and give credit to the media when that happens. Updates everyday at 16:00 EDT I will probably be able to pick this novel back up again in December of 2026.

"Hmmm.."

Roseline was staring at the ceiling thinking about her current issue.

Training her affinity.

She can't just do it out in the open.

Shadow isn't an element humans can control, though they do have something similar.

It's called the darkness element.

It's similar yet different.

Darkness refers to the absence of light without connecting to anything while Shadows are directly connected with objects and beings because the object is what causes the lack of light by blocking it.

Darknesses weakness was light while Shadows was actually complete darkness.

Two very different things.

And someone from the second sage will definitely be able to see that.

That made her think of another question.

Atlas had used an element that humans can't use either.

As far as she knew, Light was supposed to belong to the now deceased angels.

Perhaps his bloodline had something to do with angels, but she couldn't confirm anything.

She turned to look at Lelia who was cleaning her bow and asked.

"Do you know where I can train without the military knowing I'm a vampire?"

Emma was out training and wouldn't being coming back anytime soon, leaving only them.

Lelia stopped for a moment before speaking about something she had heard of.

"I think I heard about the military doing some dungeon stuff. You can try there, though I'm not sure if they will ask about your level."

Dungeons…

Not much is really known about them, other than that they appear every so often and hold incredible treasures.

The current leading theory is that dungeons are actually rips and tears of space and time, connecting a part of the universe with another one in a one-way function.

'Guess that's a good place to try.'

Dungeons usually have some enemies or beast in them that one would need to fight to get to the valuable item or object in them.

Hell, the military thought that the 'Trial of The Weak' was a dungeon at first but they dropped it as there was no reported reward for exploring them.

"Do you know where I can go for that?"

"I don't know, I only overheard about it."

'Guess I have to walk around.'

Roseline got up and changed, leaving the dorm and headed to the nearest bus station on the base.

Since the base was big, even for the other base's standards, they needed a form of transportation across it.

What the United Republic of Earth chose were buses.

She sat down while songs that were currently popular played from the speakers.

Through the window, one could see the beauty of the base from a different angle.

The bustling base filled the eyes with it's action and the building made of hard material like silver, obsidian, metal, and concrete gave a unique feeling of a front battlefield.

The splashes of color given by the gardens showed the stability of it's ground, that the military was strong enough to even have life growing.

It all gave those who saw it the feeling of its strength and power.

There was even some animals around in the gardens, their existence being in a controlled number of course.

Staff that were on break had relaxed expressions and chatted with friends, those on duty showed their professionalism and dedication to the military.

Roseline got to one of the popular areas in the base for buildings of different services.

It even had its own name, downtown SilverStream.

It was called SilverStream because of the architecture that was used to build this location, silver.

The sun reflected its light on the silver and it bounced off to the rest of the city.

It was really bright in the mornings.

Roseline squinted her eyes from the light and scowled a bit.

"Gods it's bright."

She headed over to the nearest shade and took some time to recover from the effects of sunlight hitting her.

'Thank goodness for the ring, or else I would suffer the moment I step outside.'

SilverStream was like Vampire repellent without even trying.

With her vision back, Roseline searched the area for a map that she could use.

Finding one in one of the sidewalks, she took a look and found where one would register to go to dungeons.

[ Dungeon Mission Building ]

It was east-north of where she was.

So after memorizing the path, she went over to walk the way over.

She got infront of a huge building that was made with far to much silver.

It was literally glowing with light.

All she saw was white when looking at it with a frown.

Roseline's eyes where recovering again as she entered.

It was a lot less bright than outside, but that didn't really mean anything as she honestly thought nothing here in this area could compare to the outside of the Dungeon Mission Building.

It was orderly inside, no one was making a mess and were patiently waiting.

It looked more like a doctor's hospital than something that would be similar to its purpose like a guild tavern.

Heading over to what looked like a registration desk, a tablet showed the process of registering for a dungeon mission.

Reading the registration for a while, Roseline decided to just do it.

For every dungeon that she completed, she would have to give 45% of the items found in the dungeon to the military.

Such horrible rates, where's the Dungeon Mission union?!

Filling out the registration form, She looked through the dungeons that were available.

For those of one person only, they were low-level dungeons.

That didn't bother Roseline though.

Her eyes caught one dungeon in particular that's perfect to try out her new Shadow Abilities.

[ Dungeon Name: Castle of The Bright ]

[ Star rank: 2 Star ]

[Available Slots: 1 ]

She looked through its description and knew it was a perfect fit for her affinity.

Shadows needs light to exist, the brighter the light, the darker the shadow and the more powerful it is.

As much as she doesn't like facing light herself, using her shadow affinity under light would definitely make it stronger.

She thought about those Vampires in stories that had an umbrella they hold over there heads to avoid light and felt like that may be a way to have the strength of being under a high sun while staying away from it and having a shadow near her for her to use.

'Fuhu, I'm quite smart.'
