The silence in the car was deafening to the point where Emerald could hear her own heart beating rapidly. She didn't know what to say to Brian that would calm him down and wipe the furious look he had on his face. But she knew that she couldn't just say anything because whatever she said could either calm him down or make him go off completely.

She could hear his fingers tapping on the steering wheel and she had a feeling he was also thinking of the best way to react. They both sat in silence for what felt like forever until Brian finally decided on what to say.

"May I ask what you were thinking, coming to a club without letting me know first?" Brian asked, not exactly raising his voice but Emerald could hear and feel the anger in his tone.
