Chapter 1

"YOU TRASH!!! Get out of my house! I can't believe I raised children like you! Leave before I have my husband beat you within an inch of your life!"

We had just found out that my sister and I had no magic affinity. This was officially our death certificate. In a world where magic was everything, those who were strong were rich and those who were weak were left behind. Unfortunately, while those who were weak were treated poorly most people still had some magic affinity. Having a magic affinity was as simple as breathing and it determined your role as a mage. Simply put, it was your acceptance towards certain magic elements. If you haven't caught on yet, yes there is magic.

It started back in the year 2236, the world had gradually adapted to the changes global warming had produced; which included the continental shift, often referred to as New Pangea. The New Pangea was the resulting landmass, from the 7 major continents shifting together forming one giant continent. Unfortunately, while the human race was now closer physically, it couldn't bridge the gap formed by countless wars throughout history. While the major political figures, of the previous seven continents, avoided an all-out war, they couldn't help the scheming minds of the human race plotting in the background. Political figures would go missing in the night, cities would suddenly disappear, and terrorist groups seemed to be at large, with the secret funding from government agencies.

It wasn't until 2239, when one of the supposed missing cities, was found. Originally, not much thought was put into this missing city, know as Andross, as cities' disappearing was a common occurrence. But, what stuck out with Andross, other than reappearing, was the fact that the whole city was a shell of what it once was. Upon investigating the various government agencies found, the city had been burnt completely within seconds. Now what this means, is unlike what most places look like upon being burnt down, Andross still held most of its shape; and while the buildings were technically burnt down they still retained their shape in ash. This held great importance, as with the gentlest breeze the structure would have completely fallen down; yet, it still held its shape meaning it had been separated from the rest of the world.

This event changed the tides of history, as the political figures of the world united under one joint union, known as The Humanity Alliance. Together The Humanity Alliance united in the goal of progressing technologically; to fight off whatever unknown threat was lurking in the shadows. But, unbeknownst to the rest of humanity, the underground world of terrorists also decided to unite. They became a religious group who believed the events that had taken place in the deserted city, known as Andross, was a form of divine justice. They believed that humanity was bad for the earth and as god's apostles they must help to rid the world of this parasite; under one banner, Gaia's Apostles.

Using the resources they had obtained through working with the government, Gaia's Apostles discovered the locations of multiple nuclear weapons and had successfully taken 12 different bombs from around The Humanity Alliance territory. Within the week, these bombs would be launched at all major cities in an attempt to rid the world of humanity at last.

Upon discovering the missing warheads, The Humanity Alliance had covertly worked together to form an underground bunker using the technology they had developed; in an attempt to preserve humanities last shot. Knowledge, tools, food, and farms had all been stored in this underground facility along with important human figures and children to be the torch holders of the new generation. When the bombs dropped, most of humanity died with them; however the few hundred people in the underground facility had survived. They lived underground for the next 4 years, while the world adapted to this new change and began to flourish.

Pollution, global warming, and the nuclear bombs all worked together in destroying earths ozone layer. While, scientists for generations had talked about how this would be the immediate destruction of the world itself; somehow earth survived through the creation of a new substance known as Mana. Mana helped not only to protect the crust, but also to flourish, as the trees grew stronger and taller than ever before. Animals began to evolve and mutate in peculiar ways. And finally, humans began to feel a connection with Gaia, as they could now harness the magic only known through legends and stories.

this is a bit of an info dump but, i figured understanding how mana came to be was an interesting idea versus it just being.
