Snowbird

"I laugh with no humor again, I don't notice that Crynn starts to scoot farther away from the bars separating us. I don't notice the bars start to crunch into themselves like a strong, invisible force is squeezing them together jerkily. I don't notice the crackle of the speakers, alerting anyone in the hall that the guards are listening in. I don't notice the wild way my hands are moving through the air, I don't notice the hysterical pitch my voice has reached, I don't notice the crazy gleam in my eyes. I wouldn't though, I'm too caught up in my emotions." Raylee Damini is the world's first Heavie, someone who can control the stubborn force of Gravity. Though it comes with a price. The white-haired girl on the bottom floor of Illwood Asylum has captured Raylee's interest, the Government wants to use her special powers for violence, isn't white the color of purity? A mysterious visitor, disappearing doctor, and a girl who thinks she's a monster? Raylee has her hands full trying to survive her attacks already, so what happens when the visitor isn't so mysterious? The doctor is found? And the girl is a savior? Don't worry about the Blackbirds, we'll get to them later.

Tricks

I'm laying on my back with all of my legs stretched up the wall. I flex my hand, and bits of rubble fall from the ceiling. I'm probably breaking my neck while trying to see how long I can pull a brick from the ceiling without anyone on the floor above me noticing. So far it has almost fallen on my face twice. The brick comes loose again and dust sprinkles my face, I squint and catch the brick a foot from my nose. The door to my hall creaks open and I hear footsteps stomp in. I'm still manipulating the gravity in my cell so I grip onto the bars while everything that's not attached to the floor floats around. Unfortunately, the list is small and only includes me and the brick.

"You have a visitor, refrain from messing around with your powers." The stoic guard turns around and stomps back out, Crynn is left standing by my bars, eyes wide.

"That is so cool! How are you doing that?" I gently release my hold on gravity and lower myself and the flying brick to the ground. I cross my arms, cock my hip, and glare at him. My little brother winces.

"Okay! Okay! I'm sorry! I know it's been a week but Mom wouldn't let me come back right away! She says I'll damage our reputation if I come here. I had to sneak out today. But hey! I have some ideas on how to get you out! I recruited some of my friends to help us and I hope you don't mind but I brought them along today too, they're waiting about a block away for my signal to come in."

I stare at him wide-eyed, he brought more people? I'm starting to feel like this is a prison break, which is what it is.

Crynn seems nervous,

"Is that okay?" I nod, still in shock. I've never met this many people from outside before! Is it hot in here? My hands are sweating. Crynn smiles, blissfully ignorant of my discomfort.

"Great! I'll let them know, and you have to show them that cool trick!" I smirk at Crynn,

"This one?" I make him float to the ceiling and he lets out a shriek in alarm.

"Or this one?"

He lands with an "oomph" and I viciously crunch the barred door and forcefully push it outward so it slams into the wall across the hall. Sometimes my Magnetic powers come in handy. Luckily, I moved Crynn out of the way. Crynn's staring at the mangled steel door, distracted, so I sneak up behind him and whisper in his ear,

"Boo."

He jumps about a foot in the air and I break down laughing.

"You must be in a good mood today," Crynn says, a little out of breath.

"I'm just so bored!" I exclaim, he laughs and kneels down to the floor. My brother places his hand flat on the ground and gives it a little push, I feel a tingle on my bare feet, the new doctor doesn't give me socks. I lift up a foot,

"Hey! What did you do?" He looks at me confused,

"You didn't tell me you were a Sparkie too,"

"Faulty Sparkie," I mumble, "All I can do is a small shock or some static. What did you do?"

"I'm sending a message to my friend, she's also a Sparkie." I frown,

"But I didn't get any message."

"Yes you did, the shock. She'll be able to feel it and she'll know what it means." I nervously twist my fingers in my light grey shirt.

"Uh, how many people are you bringing here?" I ask, I feel another tingle in my foot so I shake it out. Crynn frowns at the ground.

"Could you, uh, somehow not stand on the floor so I can send this message to my friend?" I smile at him,

"You mean like this?" I manipulate my own Gravity so that I'm floating an inch off the ground but holding steady, I start to sweat, this takes a lot of effort. Crynn grins,

"That is so cool," He presses his hand to the floor again then stands up.

"Did you send it far? There are a lot of Sparkies in this building." Crynn nods,

"If they're not here in a few minutes I'll send it again." I nod.

"You never answered, how many people are you bringing?" Crynn looks at me,

"Six,"

My mouth falls open, six people?! My nerves are eating me alive, I hate crowds.
