Chapter 10 - Systems and Skills.

"So, first, I want to know why you decided to become a Hunter." Lukas was led into a room by Karen. Inside, had a desk used as a meeting table, a bed and a closet.

"Are you using your room as a meeting room?"

"Huh? No, that's not my room. That's Noelle's room."

"I see..." Lukas smiled a little awkwardly and then answered Karen's question. "I don't know why I chose to become a Hunter either. Maybe because of Philip? Or maybe I want to enjoy the skills I have received." Lukas thought about the system.

"Philip? A friend encouraged you to become a Hunter?"

"It's not that. Do you remember the attack that happened at that event some time ago? Philip was one of the people who died in that place. I could have helped him with my skills... Or I think so."

"I see." Karen could feel the sadness in those words.

"But that doesn't matter now. I want to become an adventurer to make money. Isn't that what people do?"

"Maybe? Most people think about the money, but some people like to help others."

"Are you one of those people?"

"No, I want money. But that's not the point right now. Well, you said you want to enjoy the skills you have received... Are you talking about telekinesis and pyrotechnics?"

"Oh yes, of course." Lukas smiled at Karen to show that he was not lying.

"All right." Karen wrote a few more things and then smiled at Lukas. "You have been accepted. Welcome to guild 'The Butterflies'.

I will send the form I wrote to the guild so they can register you in the database."

"..."

"You don't look pleased."

"I am quite happy, don't worry." Lukas stood up from his chair uncomfortably and then turned to leave the room.

"I'll call you tomorrow to set up another meeting. I want you to meet the other members. Probably tomorrow, you will be able to make your first visit to a dungeon."

"That fast?"

"Isn't that what you want?"

"I just didn't expect it to be so fast." Lukas left and closed the door. After he left, Karen took off her jacket from the suit she was wearing.

"Damn, it's too hot in here. We need an air conditioner."

"How did it go?" Arriving downstairs, Lukas found Noelle, and she seemed anxious to hear the results of his interview.

"I was accepted."

"YEEEEEEEEEES!!!" Noelle shouted as she raised both her arms. She then approached Lukas and suddenly hugged him. She put her face into Lukas, and he remembered what had happened earlier.

Then he held her shoulders and pushed her away.

"Please don't wipe your face on me."

"Hm? I was congratulating you."

"Okay, now I have to go. I need to get ready for tomorrow. Your boss wants to put me in a dungeon on my first day of work."

"But that's what we do. We visit dungeons and take care of portals." Noelle put her finger on her chin and tilted her head.

"I know that..." Lukas sighed and then walked out the front door.

'I didn't even get a chance to say no. Am I going to join this guild? Surely the other members must be strange people too.' Lukas regretted going to the interview.

'But if something goes wrong, I'll leave the guild. At least now I am a hunter... Now it's time for me to use you, isn't it, system? I'm sure that's what you wanted.'

Lukas opened the system in front of his eyes and smiled. Lukas began to get excited. Entering a dungeon seemed to be a common thing for him.

He wasn't feeling afraid.

Maybe the system had messed with his head? No, that was impossible. He was still the same and acted the same way. Perhaps that is the same thing that adjusted his emotions the first day the system appeared?

'I will have to do better research on the whole system. I can't enter a dungeon without studying it a bit.'

After that message, the system opened another window showing something like an item store. Swords, shields, daggers, food, clothes, armour. All the items cost an amount that Lukas could not afford.

At the top of the window, a number showed the number of souls available for him to spend.

Lukas worried about how strange all the descriptions were.

Now the only three skills Lukas didn't know how worked. Three abilities with strange and rather curious names.

[ The enemy's body will be violated, and you will remove its soul. If you stop to think about it, isn't this skill the fruit of it all? ]

Lukas thought about how horrible that description was. The word "violated" was something...

The second skill was exciting. Just like the evaluation, it was a skill with optical power.

[ Skill 'Divine Eyes of Doom' ]

[ With such a creepy look, would your enemies even want to stay in front of you? I'm sure some of them peed themselves while looking at your eyes. Ordinary people would panic and never leave their homes again. ]

The system could not tell Lukas what this ability did.
