Chapter 5 Help From a New Friend

School had finally opened, and I could finally see Alice and Luna without worry. I didn't realize the cut on my cheek as blood dripped down, making me shiver. James' hoodie was all I had to cover my face away from people, but it was weird as their eyes landed on me. They seemed to be judging my every step as I have gotten to my locker. But the normal thing that came out was notes from random people. They all say the same things "Kill yourself, freak, slut," and it seemed to never end. But it didn't bother me very much as I normally throw them away at this point.

"Caro!" a cheerful voice called out to me.

"Alice," I made a fake smile, knowing that she wouldn't see my pain.

"Luna told me that Ruby spreading rumors about you again," she said in a worried tone.

"That seems normal," sighing to the thought of what she could make now.

"It seemed pretty bad to me," she replied with a frown, "but I know that you keep your head up."

"What's the Rumor about?" I questioned.

"Ruby said that you killed Lize and Marry." She spoke, "but it only because their bodies were found last night."

"Well, she got her news wrong," I sighed.

"What do you mean?" Alice questioned.

"I was the one who found the bodies," I replied as we walked towards our English class. I was ready to finish Shakespeare, but it didn't last long as Alice froze. Knowing that it had to be one of the many people who hated me. I was tired as is, but when I looked up to see the group of boys. They were Ruby's right hand, but it didn't mean that they were after me. I continued to walk to my class as Alice did the same, but it ended with my bag on the ground.

"What do you want," I said monotoned towards the group of boys.

"We heard that you might have killed Lize and Marry," one boy snarled towards me.

"I never killed anyone," I sighed and tried to grab my stuff.

"Then who do we blame then?" another said walking up to me, pushing my bag out to the side.

"Maybe ask Ruby's Mother about the case," I replied, "because all I did was find the bodies on my way home."

"Sounds like a good reason to blame you," one of them laughed. I knew that they would still blame it on me as I was pushed up the wall. Pain ran up my back as I was forced onto the ground. Alice stepped in front of me but was held back by two of the boys. The only boy that was there was blonde and had a horrible temper, Remer Howard. He was a part of the group of country boys, who drink and party most of the weekends. Right now, I was on the ground, being beaten. I was blamed for about anything people wanted and ended with me on the ground. All I felt was a pain as I know that I was going to be watched for this as no one cared.

My sight was becoming faded as each hit happened, it felt like I was going to break something. There was no sound of bones breaking or my own cries for help. I lay there with tears running down my cheeks as I felt my hand bleed once again. It hurt like hell, but I just took it as teens cheer for the beat or stayed quiet. Alice screamed for them to stop, but they never did. But when he did stop was to look at me and all I did was try to get up.

"I would stay down," Remer growled.

"Pathetic how people act," I mumbled under my breath, "It only takes one word from a person and a witch hunt is on a person."

"You should learn to stay down," he laughed as his fist slammed into my stomach. But I didn't stand down towards him as I watched. Tears ran down my cheeks as it reminded me of home with no one to love me or take care of me. My eyesight was getting worst with lack of sleep and being beaten to what seemed like death to me. Wobbled my way forwards to try to get to my class, but it ended with me on the ground. Blackness was all I see as the light became nothing anymore. Breathing slowly, but all I heard was Alice screaming for me to okay.

But another voice came in with both anger and fear within. I felt sleepy, but I didn't know if it was death or the lack of sleep. The feeling of hands strong and safe around my body made me groan in pain. Alice was crying, I could tell as she called Luna on her phone. But who was holding me? Who would care about me in the first place?

"Remer if you ever touch her again," a male voice growled, "I swear that I'll beat the living shit out of you!"

"Whatever James," he answered, and seemed that he walked off with his so-called friends. Why would James pick me up or even try to help me? I guess practice was over and made sense for him to be heading to class at this point. His breathing was ragged and the feeling of him walking made me question. Where is he taking me? The only place that could take care of me is the nurses' office, but he seemed to be pissed to do that. All I could hear was telling Alice to meet him at his house. Was he going to take me there or the nurse? Am I being Kidnapped by my own friends and guy I barely knew anything about?

But it didn't take long as I was laid down on something hard. But I learned what it was as a roar came from the engine. I knew that he had a fancy car and drove it to school, but what about his classes.

"That fucking asshole is lucky to be alive," I heard him grumble. All he was saying was how he should have gotten there soon or kicked his ass right then and there. But I didn't understand his anger at the time. He was the type to keep smiling and want to make friends with everyone. There had to be something else to make him want to be around me as a friend. At this point, he was in my life even if I didn't want to or not.

The started to slow down as it was the end of the road. If I was going to be killed here and now. I'll feel knifes being stabbed into me or being buried alive under the dirt. It never came as I was picked up again and placed somewhere. I could hear everything, but I couldn't see what was going on. Blind? No, it seemed like I was asleep, or maybe both awake and asleep?

"Mom!" he called out into his house.

"Yes!" a female voice called back.

"Can you come here?" he said as I felt his hand on my cheek. It was nice for a while, but soon I couldn't hear a thing. Finally found peace to sleep in the darkness I was in.
