A Recognition

"Hey, Elliot! Look, it looks like Emily is enjoying her date. She looks really happy." Alice said that with excitement on her face. But to me, the scene I saw in front of my eyes was not good at all and for some reason, my heart felt tight seeing it.

"Is it possible that I'm jealous? Hahaha... that's impossible, right? I came here for one reason, I'm worried about Emily because she's my best friend, that's it." I muttered to myself inwardly because there was no way I would dare to say that openly when Alice was beside me. She might laugh at me if she heard my inner voice.

"Waah, look, look, Brother Rico is holding Emily's hand. What is he going to do? Perhaps Emily has accepted his love and they're finally dating."

I couldn't speak a thousand languages seeing the scene in front of me that was hurting my eyes more and more. "Elliot, what are you doing? Where are you going?"

I didn't care about Alice's words at all, all I wanted to do right now was to get there as quickly as possible and immediately take Emily away from there.

Arriving in front of their seats, I held Emily's hand. Then pulled her away from there. Looking at her expression, I'm sure Emily was very surprised to see me there. So far, she didn't say anything and didn't put up any resistance when I forcefully took her away from her date's place. Then suddenly Emily let go of my hand and started talking when we were far enough away from the park. We were in a fairly quiet place now.

"What are you doing, Elliot?" Her eyes were glaring, clearly angry.

I cleared my throat softly, "I just don't like seeing a guy you've just met so casually touching you."

"What do you mean? Did you forget that we were dating?"

"But I think he went too far, Emily"

"That's none of your business, is it? You're nobody, Elliot. You're not even my boyfriend. As you said, we're just friends. So, you shouldn't interfere in my personal life. Anyway, have you forgotten? Weren't you the one who told me to accept his date?"

I couldn't reply to everything she said because everything she said was true. I could only respond with silence. Then Emily walked away, starting to move away from me. It seemed like she intended to go back to the place where the man was still waiting for her.

"Wait, Emily, please don't go back there!" Of course, I couldn't just let her go.

Emily stopped walking and she turned back to me. "Why not?"

I was stunned for a moment, not knowing what to answer because I dared to forbid her like this. However, in a situation like this, I realized I could only tell Emily the truth. Saying what I was feeling so desperate to forbid her to go like this. "Because it will hurt my heart."

Emily's snorting voice flowed, "Even you don't like me at all so don't tease me like that."

I walked quickly to her then pulled back her hand and I sharply looked straight into her eyes. "No, Emily. I'm sorry, but now I realize I..." I gulped for a moment before continuing, until I finally said, "... like you."

"Don't joke around at a time like this."

Her words offended me so I unconsciously raised my voice, "Do I look like I'm joking?!!!" I snapped at her slightly because I was annoyed by her distrust of me.

Emily looked into my eyes for a long time and it seemed like she was starting to believe me after a long period of deliberation. Suddenly she came closer to me and hugged me without any prompting or permission. I was surprised by her bold action.

"Do you like me, Elliot?"

"Ahh... hmm... yeah." I'm sure my answer sounded very dubious, but it didn't seem to affect her, because she tightened her embrace even more.

"I like you too, Elliot."

I was both relieved and happy to hear her confession. I returned her hug and I slowly held her tiny chin. I lifted her head and I looked into her eyes for quite a while. I regained my consciousness thanks to Emily's call who seemed to be worried about me. "Oh, yeah. I'm fine." I flashed a smile so Emily wouldn't think anything bad had happened to me. I continued my journey with Emily, but that feeling came back and got stronger. I felt curious about who the person was there and I decided to go to that place to make sure.

"Sorry, Emily. I just remembered there's a place I have to go, you go home first."

Emily looked surprised that I would suddenly say something like this. "But..."

"Never mind, you just go home. Later tonight when I get home, I'll call you. Bye, Emily."

After saying that, I hurried away to the place that appeared in my head earlier. I didn't understand what was happening to me lately.
