Chapter 33: A Solitary Fight

Tall trees blocked the sunlight, allowing only a few rays to illuminate beneath their canopies. The vegetation on the Islands of Cadmus varied between each island. On this one, voluminous leaves and numerous trunks connected to each other to create a network throughout the forest. 

The perfect environment to set up an ambush. The ground, damp from little exposure to heat, marked the footsteps of animals and other living beings that passed through these paths. The smell of wet wood filled the air with a characteristic odor. 

In this setting, a young woman, about 1.65 meters tall, faced a broad-shouldered, nearly two-meter-tall black man. The brute advanced quickly towards the half-elf, punching the ground at her feet. 

"He's slow, but..." 

Jumping back to dodge the blow, she spun in the air, anticipating the follow-up. From the ground, a large stone spike erupted and pierced the spot where Akemi had jumped.
