Chapter 40: The Northern Gate
A few minutes later, Selene walks out into the hallway and closes the door quietly behind her. The house is a hum of activity as she heads toward the steps. Selene can hear conversations down the hall as she walks along. At one point, she even hears Sparrow talking to her brothers behind one of the closed doors.
There’s a great deal of planning to be done, but she takes the time to appreciate the sounds of life filling the once-empty house. Selene thinks about asking one of the staff where Rue’s room is, but she doubts any of the staff knows the guests by name yet. She decides to head down to the kitchen first.
Cora had been a mess the last time she saw her, but when Selene opens the door, she is greeted by a much different sight. There are five other people bustling around the room as Cora tells them what to do from her place in front of the stove. She notices Selene and hurries over.
