Chapter 34: Safety in the South

The tunnel opens up on the side of a hill just outside of town. Selene’s relieved it didn’t put them in town. If Frank and Twitch can’t shift, a bunch of people traveling with two wolves will not go unnoticed. People shade their eyes as they step out into the light. Selene has no way of knowing how long they were locked up, but she can tell they are happy to be free.

Some of the kids start to run around and lay in the grass. The adults gather together by the side of the hill to talk.

“Where are we going to go?” one woman asks.

“I don’t know, but it isn’t safe for us in the city,” another man replies.

A little boy about five years old sits on his mother’s lap. “Are we going to die?” he asks in a sad whisper.

His mother holds him close to her chest. “No, my boy. We’ll figure out something.”
