Silent Watch

In a world where you have to fit in, become normal, those who had been paved a different path struggled. Who knew that a guardian angel watched over your every movement, your every step, your every breath. They watched, observed but had one rule... Do not intervene with their fate... Only one rule was put in place yet that one rule was broken; when, without hesitation, a guardian angel saved their human mere moments from death... Now she has to suffer the consequences.

"Skye right? The new girl around here"

She whipped her attention down the auditorium; a man wearing a brown overcoat came into view, dressed and packed as if just about to head off before something caught his attention. His smile was pleasing, eyes glittering as they lingered on her.

"Uh, yes" she replied.

"Jax, my name's jax"

Lifting his leg over the higher chair to the next row above him, he stashed his hands in his pockets and smiled brightly at her; now only one seat away..

Damon shifted uncomfortably.

"Don't you think we should be off Skye?" Chongan coughed, not liking the sudden approach and giving a weary stare in her direction.

He held onto his straps as he walked past Skye, mouthing as he did 'don't get involved with him'.

In return, she shrugged. 'Why?'

He only shook his head, his piercing wobbling with the motion, slowly turning and waiting at the last seat for them both.

Jax caught the stare, biting the inside of his cheek while maintaining a calm exterior. Joyful even.

"I won't keep you too long, relax, just want to introduce myself before others do that for me" He grinned jokingly.

An underlining irritation was very clear though, even to the deaf.

Skye never held any prejudice, leaning forward and offering her hand to him; ignoring the warning, much to Chongan's disapproval.

He was surprised at the gesture, quickly taking his own hand out his pocket that jingled with a small bracelet around his wrist.

The detail in each jewel awoke her own eyes. It was too stunning not to comment on. "Where did you get that from, it's beautiful"

"Oh this?" He shook his wrist, the small bracelet pattering against his skin. "Just something I've kept with me"

"Well it suits you, and it's lovely to meet you Jax" Skye beamed, tugging on the strap of her laptop. It's weight digging into her shoulder.

"Off already?" He smirked.

"Places to be- yea" Damon answered, eyeing Jax with an uneasy eye. His hair fell gently on his face as he huffed.

Jax scowled under his breath. "No fun"

Damon signalled for her to move, which she did.

"Well it was nice Skye! We can chat again sometime" He rushed as she began walking to Chongan, Damon one step behind her.

He was oddly protective, shoulders sinking forward.

Was there history here that she didn't understand?

She did join late into the term.

Dismissing the thoughts, Chongan nudged her in the elbow as they descended the steps to the exit, sighing quietly. "Sorry to be so.. abrupt"

His attention remained on her.

"But he's trouble at its finest"

Skye shivered. What did that mean?

The moment the fire doors slammed shut behind the trio, Jax groaned loudly, cupping his face with his palms and dragging it.

He blew it. And those two idiots...

He punched the chair, swearing at the pain and the red now underlining his skin.

The chair didn't even rock, the cushion springing back.

"Yo, Jax, calm down" His friend stressed from afar. "What's got you so riled up?"

His voice echoed in the empty auditorium, the lecturer having being the first one to leave.

Jax turned to greet him, smiling weakly while massaging his bruising fist. He really did not expect it to be that painful.

The man was entering from the opposite fire doors, still as heavy; bag discarded in his seat as he reached for it.

His hair was a beautiful brown, parted with a rich colouring; eyes, never a dull moment as the green was so vibrant, he was recognisable in an instant.

Lev Milos.

"Easy now" he laughed, holding Jax's shoulder, bag in the other, the padding of the jacket engulfing his hand.

"Ugh those two idiots ruined my chances with a girl"

Lev held back his laughter, lips sealed shut. "Again? Wow you have bad luck"

"Yea, she was new as well" He sighed, closing his eyes in distaste.

Lev removed his hand, motioning for them to get moving. "The new girl... Skyla was it?"

"-Skye"

His voice turned high pitch, an imitation of hers while jumping down 3 steps at a time, running and halting toward the exit door.

"Skye. Just Skye" he mocked, hands, arms clenched by his side as his spine was straight, looking down like a scolded puppy.

Lev laughed, leaning back with a grin. "Top class impression Jax"

Laced with sarcasm of course.

His eyebrows lifted, hopping down the steps comically, landing next to his friend and drawled amusingly. "Should've become an actor"

Jax chuckled, hitting him lightly and opening the door, bowing as he directed Lev through.

"Your highness..."

Lev, not wasting a chance for being dotted on faked a chuffed tear, smiling a large thank you as he strolled through the doors.

"Such a waste of talent" he whispered.

They both laughed and bickered like a pair of toddlers all the way off campus.

Of course, Jax just had to stop by the tech office, for a reason he didn't feel the need to disclose to Lev.

Lev just blindly agreed, knowing that even if he pressed the subject, he would never get a straight answer out of him.

So, instead of taking a direct route, they took a detour through the grounds; walking and chatting through fountains in courtyards, past other lecture halls filled with students and finally.. the tech office.

The door separating a world of geniuses was sturdy wood with a glass middle.

Impressive much?

The frame for the glass took up most of the space, but through it you could see whoever had their queries inside.

And for Jax, that was Skye.

Meanwhile, inside the office, the trio were having a trifling time in trying to recover the frozen essay that at this point wasn't worth the effort.

"You know what" Skye started, sighing heavily with her hands on her hips. "It's not worth it- I'll just re-write it"

Chongan shared glances with Damon, a look of defeat.

"It will be done before the deadline, it'll just be a squeeze"

Mumbling under her breath, while reaching for the dead laptop she laughed. "Not much to re-write anyway..."

"Ah I'm sorry Skye, I really thought they could help."

Damon scratched the back of his head, eyes to the floor.

"Yea~" Chongan elongated. "They're usually not this useless"

He chuckled, leaning on the desk nearest to him. "Perhaps you're just a special case"

You could say that again.

Nevertheless, Skye appreciated all the help; human interaction being less stressful than she'd originally thought. Essays however... yea no.

Skye held the deadweight in her hand, deciding to give the shoulder a break.

"No worries, you tried and that's all we pretty much can do"

She looked out the large glass windows to her left, the warm morning a distant memory as by the looks of things, it was freezing.

"Yea I know, it's just that-" Damon stopped mid-way, his reflection clear in a computer screen; but not only his, as with his back facing the door he could see another peeking in.

"You have to be kidding me"

Chongan turned to face the door, eyes rolling at the sight dashing from view. "Wow I knew he was desperate- but this takes the cake"

Noticing that he was caught staring, Jax jumped back, a hand on his heart that startled Lev.

"Shit, I've been compromised"

"Wait.. what?" Lev asked.

"No time to explain-" He grabbed Lev's arm before he could comment further, deciding to plod along with the idiot who held onto him.

"You were staring at the new girl!" Lev shouted within spaced breaths, Jax not bothering to slow his pace.

Lev wheezed at the thought, laughing so hard his stomach hurt. "You didn't have any tech issues, you just went to stalk your next prey"

"Shut it!"

Behind them, with no effort to chase after, stood an unbelievable expression plastered on Damon's face as he held the door for Chongan and Skye; Chongan having to duck below the arm extended just below him.

They all watched as two figures ran off into the outdoors from the end of the hallway.

"He's annoyingly persistant" Damon huffed, slowly going to button up his coat.

Skye was all too oblivious to it all. No one actually explained anything to her. Let alone why they were running from them.

"What's the deal with him then?" She asked curiously.

Chongan sighed. "He's bad news. The moment he got here he's been after every girl he sets eyes on..."

"And you are no exception" Damon finished.

Skye couldn't help but blush. Being an angel all these emotions were quite foreign. Sexual love? That was a concept quite foreign to angels, especially since they never took any interest on others... it just wasn't a thing.

Unsure as to how someone could be attracted to her, she tilted her head.

"I'm sure he just wants to get to know me better" she voiced optimistically.

Chongan patted her shoulder in disbelief. "Ha, sure; and Damon here wants to get frostbite"

Both their heads pointed to him, whose cheeks immediately heated and turned shy from the sudden attention; a scarf from his backpack being pulled the moment he was 'caught'.

"What?" He breathed.

Chongan held a palm to his lips, trying desperately not to laugh while Skye didn't share the same sentiment; laughing as she pleased.

It was a sweet sound, entirely pure.

"Don't hate on me just because I'm prepared for all weathers"

Skye stopped laughing. "Can't argue with that" she chirped.

"Yea yea ok- I'm not buying it"

Maybe... just maybe being human wasn't so bad after all.

After multiple layers later, Damon finally caught up with the pair who left him to his embarrassment.

They didn't have another lecture for around an hour and a bit; deciding to get lunch at a nearby cafe.

As Skye stepped into the courtyard from the heated hallway, she instantly shivered. "The weather changes so fast wow" she chattered through her teeth. "It was warm when I got here like two hours ago"

Damon commented. "It's England. And we all know the weather is as consistent as Chongan's tech abilities"

A choked laughter erupted from the three of them.

"I guess I deserve that for earlier" he smiled, playfully hitting him around the back of the head.

The wide smiles were so prominent on all their faces as the cold soon dwindled away in their thoughts. The excitement of socialising floating in the chilled air.

"Who's the fool now huh?" Damon joked, flipping his scarf further round his back.

Skye chuckled. "Alright alright you win"

"We apologise oh wise one" Chongan added, straightening his spine as they walked. The three amigos were what they looked like. Chongan being the tallest, next, Damon, and smack in the middle of their warmth at the smallest height -by no means a great distance- Skye, the fallen angel who for the first time in her existence actually had friends to call her own.

The thought made the pain of her scars durable as she carried the weight of them on her back.

Let me know wha you think! Ngl I was laughing so hard at the humour in this- mostly because it was mine XD hope you enjoyed it ❤️
