Chapter 38

I HATED HOSPITALS.

I wasn't sure why, but every time I stepped inside of one, I became enveloped in this fear. The fear that I would lose those closest to me. The people that I loved.

It was clear there was a problem with funding here as patients were crammed onto trolleys, some alone while some had family members desperately clutching their hand. The nurses and doctors passing by seemed to be immune as the wails and cries of pain filled the tightly packed corridors. The walls were once painted, I could tell from the cream flakes that remained, though mostly they showed the grey undercoat or perhaps the concrete beneath that. The lights were bright, almost too much so. After spending time in such darkly lit places, the harsh lights brought on a small headache.
