CAMERON
Moving around the construction site of a supermarket the company was tasked to build, my eyes moved all over the space. Most of the foundation had been done and the busy atmosphere was a nice distraction from what had been bothering me a bit.
Well, maybe I should say who.
Taking out my phone, I tried not to let the disappointment show on my face when I received no messages from her regarding us meeting up tonight. I had been on delivered for over two days.
"It's so obvious you're annoyed, boss," Molly said. Looking up I could tell she seemed amused to say the least.
Placing the device back in my pocket I cleared my throat and said, "Just a setback in a minor matter."
"Anything you'd like to share?"
"No, not really."
Besides discussing the issues regarding my sex life with an employee was one of the last things Id ever do.
"By the way you told me to remind you to give, Mr. Atkinson a call this afternoon."
"Thanks, I completely forgot about that," I blew out a harsh breath and moved away only to stop in my tracks when she spoke again, "what would you do without me?"
Chuckling lightly at her words that were somewhat true I proceeded to quickly dial Neil's number. After a few rings he picked up."I swear ever since you started getting your dick wet, I haven't heard from you. I feel so abandoned," he groaned making me immediately laugh causing some of the workers moving around to glance my way.
"Now you know how I've felt over the last few years."
"So petty and to think I chose you as a partner," he chuckled.
"Speaking of which..."
"Everything is on track, we're still set to have our grand opening in a few weeks."
"This needs to work."
"Trust me," he laughed dryly, "I know, this business venture will help me in so many ways."
"How's the wife?"
He scoffed and I could already picture his features being set into an angry expression,
"Don't call her that. She doesn't want anything to do with me."
"I mean, not to take sides, but can you really blame her, did you even bother getting to know her?" I sincerely asked.
I was met with silence which was enough of an answer for me, "We didn't meet in the best circumstances. It was doomed from the start."
"It's not too late to try make the most of your situation."
"Easy for you to say, you were willing to be a participant in your arrangement," he pointed out making me scoff.
"We aren't seeing each other as I would like," I admitted.
"What, does she avoid seeing you or something?"
"She hasn't responded to my text and sometime back I tried suggesting we go get something to eat -"
"Why would you do that?"
"What's wrong with that?" I glared at the sound of him laughing on the other end.
"You don't need to spend that kind of time with her. Besides her friend stole from me, she could decide to openly do the same, you know."
"You could have pressed charges but last I checked you weren't mad about that situation," I snapped.
I knew it wasn't his intention, but his words irked me. And part of me knew he was right but instead of staying on the phone longer to listen to him, I cut him off, "Look, I need to go, I have some things to attend to."

Staring intensely at my phone lying on the countertop, I knew I should listen to Neil. The agreement we had was there for a reason.
Leave it.
Don't do it.
Were the words floating in my mind, however, the pleas from my mind were placed on mute the second my hand reached out to grab the device to dial her number.
Taking in a few deep breaths, my knee began bouncing uncontrollably when the phone rang. In that moment I felt ridiculous for feeling so antsy over making a call. And just when I was about to end the call before it began, I was met with the sound of her voice. Stiffening in my seat, I froze hearing her speak.
"Hellooooo."
Releasing a breath, I didn't realize I was holding I stood up and began pacing whilst gripping the phone tightly, "H-Hey?"
"Why do you sound confused?"
Blushing I reached up to tug at the ends of my hair trying to picture the facial expression she was wearing.
"You didn't answer my texts... guess I thought it would be the same for my calls," I answered chuckling nervously.
Hearing shuffling on the other end, I heard her humming lowly, before a crash was heard on the other side, "SHIT!"
"is everything okay?" I asked stopping completely to listen to a small whimper that made me grow even more concerned, "Anita..."
"Yeah, yeah..." she breathed cursing lowly once again, "I'm okay."
I could tell she was lying, from the way she seemed to be speaking through clenched teeth I knew she must be experiencing pain. "I'm on my way.
"Wait, Cam -"
Ending the call, I wasn't bothered to hear her tell me she had everything under control after making a decision to head her way.
