Side Character Had Enough!

'What a foolish moron I was..' I reflected as the spear pierced through my chest. Surveying the desolate city where our last battle unfolded, surrounded by the lifeless forms of my so-called 'comrades,' my gaze finally settled on the one who impaled me – the last living God, or rather, the sole survivor in this devastated world – Aurelia, The King Of Gods 'I should never have adhered to the plot.' Those were my final thoughts before consciousness slipped away, or so it was supposed to. Now, rewinding to the inception of it all – when I first transmigrated into 'my' body, or rather, Damon Blake's body. An overpowering side character in this novel's world. *** Transmigrating into a novel that concluded with a happy ending, where the protagonist saved the world, Damon dutifully followed the storyline, limiting his potential and aiding the main cast as dictated. Everything proceeded flawlessly until the clash with the ultimate antagonist – the king of gods himself. Unexpectedly, he unleashed a final card never mentioned in the novel, securing victory in the ultimate battle, claiming the lives of both Damon and the main cast. 'To hell with those fools. I've enough of them.' Given a second chance at life, Damon resolved to live on his terms. Disregarding the novel entirely, he committed to growing stronger rapidly, preparing to face the impending threats of the future without concern for the predetermined plot.

"It's crazy... first transmigration and now this regression," Damon laughed as he slowly got up. It had been a few minutes since he experienced that phenomenon and managed to calm down, collecting his thoughts.

He looked at the small camp he had set up and the four people lying motionless near the camp, covered in their own blood.

"Isn't this the day I got transmigrated?" Looking at the familiar scene, a nostalgic feeling appeared in Damon's mind.

Yes, transmigration. Damon was actually not from this world, well, not completely, but his soul, to be exact. He was originally a teenager in a somewhat parallel universe living on a planet called Earth. Just an average high schooler, he had lived his entire life sheltered, turning to novels to cope with depression after his parents' demise.

It was just another day when he finished reading another novel, 'SSS Grade Necromancer,' a fantasy novel based on hunters where the main character gets selected by an ancient power related to necromancy, prophesied to end the era of gods. A normal cliche story of one of the most famous genres.

After finishing the novel, Damon decided to sleep, only to be transmigrated into the novel he was reading before his sleep, possessing the body of Damon Blake, a side character in the story who played a crucial role in its development.

In the starting months, it took Damon some time to come to terms with his new identity and deal with the identity crisis that this transmigration brought him.

It may sound easy when reading about main characters getting transmigrated and saying, 'now I am the so-so character and would live the life he wants to...' But, in reality, it is far from the truth. Having new sets of memories and all is not something you can just get accustomed to.

While Damon was dealing with his inner turmoil, the main plot had already started. The moment Damon cleared his identity, a new choice was put before him. What should he do now as Damon Blake?

Get away from the main cast and live a life free of trouble?

Take away the opportunities mentioned in the novel for himself, replacing the protagonist and living as he pleased?

Follow the plotline and live as a side character?

There were these three major options available to Damon at the moment. Before his regression, Damon actually chose to follow the third path, to follow the main storyline and be a side character, a choice he regretted very much before his regression.

The ending of the world was pretty simple; the main character won, and humans survived—a perfect happy ending. This is why Damon decided not to interfere much with the main plotline, not to try to change anything or do something that had the potential to cause a butterfly effect.

Damon didn't want to do something foolish, like changing the plot and risking the chances of his survival by altering the happy ending to the ruin of the world. Everything went according to the plot until the last moments.

Though sometimes there would be some minor problems in the plot, with Damon's constant monitoring, no changes in the plot were observed.

But during the final fight, the main antagonist of the novel managed to get one of the heroines as a hostage, which didn't happen in the plot, causing that "protagonist" of this world to slightly back up, resulting in the mayhem where the world ended up becoming a complete ruin.
