Ice cream

In an instant I went from being a bodiless form to a nine year old Stiles. The experience was jarring but I was getting a little nervous at the fact that no new memories came to mind. In fanfictions, the si usually gets the body's memories. I haven't gotten anything.

...Does that mean I'll get the memories?

"Guess not." I grumbled. The bed I was in felt soft against my skin. I savored the feeling before getting off the bed to explore the house I was in.

Suppose it's my house now so let me rephrase.

I'm going to explore my house.

Opening and peaking through the doors gave me a good idea about the layout. My rooms on the second floor with a bathroom across from it. Dad's room is on the same floor but further down the hall.

There was a bedroom downstairs but it seemed to be in the middle of a transformation as medical supplies were being boxed up and office supplies being unpacked. Did Stiles' mom have more than just dementia?

I shut the door after failing to remember whether that was the case or not. Maybe she had a severe case? I wasn't a doctor.

"Stiles? What are you doing, son?" Sheriff or should I say Deputy? Deputy Stilinski looked exhausted but concerned all the same.

"I'm bored." Was my reply.

He glanced to the door that I had just closed, the medical/office room, and said, "how about we go out today, ice cream and the park sound good?"

"Okay." I wasn't one for expressing my feelings so the reply came out dry and dull.

And he frowned at it.

Inwardly I groaned. He's probably linking my attitude to Claudia's death. The game did say she recently passed. My guess? A month or two ago if dad's way of handling things is a measure.

I put on a pair of converse and grabbed a coat because I felt a little chilly. Deputy Stilinski - Dad - put on his uniform jacket and we hopped into the squad car.

This is the first time I've ever been in the FRONT of a squad car. It's kinda cool.

"Do you have an idea what flavor you want? I'm thinking cookie dough myself." Dad said as we entered an old ice cream parlor. We decided to sit at the booths.

Wasn't he supposed to be on a diet? I remember Stiles being on his case about eating stuff because of his health. Again, my memory failed me. I wasn't sure if he had a health issue but eating junk food wouldn't do him any good.

I mean, I'm not a great cook but I know enough to keep us from eating out all the time like they did in the show. It might take a little persuasion to get dad to let me cook in the kitchen but it's a battle worth fighting.

"The kingdom cone looks interesting. What's in it?" I talked aloud. Squinting my eyes at the menus to see better I nodded approvingly. "I think I want the Kingdom cone but instead of a cone can I get it in a cup?"

He stared at me incredulously. "You don't want the rainbow unicorn sparkle cup? I thought it was your favorite?"

I looked at the menu to see what that even was. Rainbow colored cake batter ice cream with icing swirls, confetti, and unicorn shaped candies.

A legit health hazard. I wouldn't eat it if he forced me.

But that brings up the issue. How long until I hit strike three on imposter Stiles? A bunch of little things add up to one big thing after all.

"It made me feel bad last time. I want to try something new." I made up a plausible excuse to avoid eating the monstrosity.

He seemed to accept the answer and ordered our ice creams to go. "Are you nervous about going back to school?"

The waitress delivered our ice creams and we went to the squad car to eat our fill.

"A little I guess."

"I know you missed the end of last year but your a smart kid. I'm not worried about you keeping up with everyone. Melissa says Scott's been wanting to see you. Maybe you boys can hang out for a day, get back into the groove of things before you two start the 5th grade."

Scott...Scott McCall.

I gave dad a nod. "That sounds like a great idea."
