A different kind of family

I woke up very late the next day, which must be the longest I've slept since that fateful day that my life started going downhill.

I was dazed but not confused and felt rested and energized.

"Yuna?"

For some reason I expected her to be still sleeping, but she wasn't around.

I hesitated for a while as if I left the room then there was a good chance I might just run into Yuna's mom, or even worse, dad, by myself. What was I supposed to say? Hi, my name is Boh. Nice to meet you. I slept in your daughter's room but don't worry, nothing happened. We just smoked some weed and that was all.

As I was thinking this, something even worse happened,

"Hi there, have you seen Yuna around?"

It was a tall lanky man, probably Yuna's dad - walking into her room while I was still lying on the mattress contemplating. Shit.

"No… Sir"

"OK, don't tell her that I dropped by, OK?"

Yuna's dad then unnecessarily tiptoed his way into the room, found something from her desk that I couldn't see from my angle and his face lit up as I heard the sound of some container opening.

"Sweet"

He then pocketed whatever he took out, and tiptoed his way out. As our eyes met he just smiled and put his finger on his lips to signal that I should keep quiet. I nodded my head in agreement, he then gave me a thumbs-up and a wink and left the room.

This isn't how I imagined things would go at all.

A few minutes later Yuna came back to her room as I was still lying on the mattress wondering what I should do.

"Good morning, Boh"

She looked like she just took a shower. Her hair was wet and her head was covered in a big towel, drooping low like a veil and a cape around her petite body in loose-fit loungewear.

I would be lying if I didn't feel anything in my heart at that moment.

"Good morning"

She then looked around the room, sniffed the air a little like a dog tracing a thief, and then made a clearly annoyed face.

"Was my Dad here?"

What was I supposed to do? Lie for her dad or tell her just what happened…?

"I think so"

She then dashed towards her desk and I heard some rattling sound again.

"Ah fuck, not again"

…?

Yuna then ran out to the hallway and shouted.

"Dad, did you take my stash again?!"

"Sorry, baby-. I ran out!"

Her dad shouted back.

"Oh come on, you are always like this!"

"I will pay you back!"

"You better!"

Yuna then got back into her room and let out a sigh of frustration.

"He really doesn't proportion well. Always runs out before I do and then take my stash"

"You mean like… what we smoked last night?"

"Yeah"

What kind of family was this…?

But more than that, I suddenly remembered that we kissed, or did that not count as a kiss? Yuna looked as casual as ever as if nothing happened.

Then it also came to my mind. Her dad didn't seem phased at all that a dude was sleeping in his daughter's room. Is it just because he's that chilled or is this a routine thing that Yuna does, bringing boys home?

I somehow did not feel so pleasant about that, but I knew I had no real reason to.

"So, will you stay for lunch?"

I looked at the phone to check the time and realized I had a lot of unread messages. I unlocked the phone to check and saw that it was all from Shu.

"I think I better head home"

"Cool then. See you around"

"Right, thanks for the night. I owe you one"

"No problem"

I then swiftly walked out of her room and headed downstairs, and saw Yuna's dad sitting around on the couch listening to some old rock music at full blast while smoking what I could now easily recognize as a so-called joint.

"Ah, you leaving already?"

"Yes, Sir. Thank you for letting me stay"

"Take it easy, Bruh. Come again-!"

Leaving this weird family behind, I headed out to the streets.

As I walked down the street I started to read the messages that Shu left.

"Hey, Boh. Where are you"

"Are you still mad?"

"Come on say something"

"Hey, I'm sorry about last night, a little bit"

Ha! The brat is finally seeing the error of his ways. But he didn't have to add that 'little bit'

"Look, just come back. All will be forgiven, for now"

Forgiven? I need to be forgiven?

"What are you even doing?"

"Did you sleep in the park?"

"I came out to look for you but you are not here. Where the hell are you?!"

You even went to the park to look for me?

"Answer the freaking phone, Boh!"

"Boh, seriously, just come back"

Now, now, just say sorry once sincerely and I will come back.

"Boh, come home right now. Sayna's not feeling well"

Yeah, right. All of a sudden Sayna's sick for no reason. As if.

"I'm not lying! She really doesn't look alright!"

Is this for real?

"Fine! I'm really sorry! But forget about that for now and come back for Sayna's sake!"

It might have been quicker for me to wait for the bus, but I couldn't bear to stand and wait. So I started running back home at full speed.
