“In my defense, I wasn’t lying.” Like hell he wasn’t! Actually no, it would’ve been better if he lied. Instead, he purposely left certain things out.

Like how half of their family must be signed up and assessed for the Alliance for them to stay under their protection. This was the worst-case scenario. Why was she having problems after just waking up? A groan left her lips while she palmed her eyes.

“Everything will be alright, Lu.”

“What the hell did you write to Nelson’s father, Kail. Don’t hide a single detail from me. If you so much as hinted at an insult to either of them, our heads will be on the platter.”

He wanted her serious right now? Well, he got his wish. She was attentive, her eyes were glowing in anger, and he was in full view of it. If she had full use of her body and hands, she’d be shaking him, possibly strangling him. Which was probably why he kept his distance.
