Father-in-law

Olivia angrily sat at the dining table. It was dinner time but her husband was nowhere in sight.

"Bring the food," she ordered her maid. Since he wasn't coming then she would just eat alone.

"Are you done?" The maid asked a chef, "She is getting impatient."

"Just a moment," the chef quickly prepared the food, "and...done!" He gave the maid the food who then quickly rushed to serve her madam.

However, when she got to the dining room, she was shocked to see her madam lying on the floor. The tray she held fell to the floor with a loud sound.

"Madam!" She cried out alerting everyone, "Quickly call an ambulance!"

That day, everyone was shocked when it was revealed that Olivia had died due to poisoning.

It made them wonder who exactly would dare poison the precious daughter of the Ganvin family as well as the in-law of the Hases.

The police were busy. It was said that she was most likely poisoned at the banquet by the doctors. It would be tough since the banquet was filled with a lot of wealthy people.

The police could be easily bribed and evidence could be easily cleared. That's why the two powerful families combine their efforts to find Adira Quinn, the famous and best detective. This was also done in order to get the real culprit to avoid offending anyone.

This was also not a secret so everyone who was at the banquet was uneasy. Well, except Liam and Valeria.

"Ooh, Olivia has passed away," Liam was surprised. He had seen the woman at the banquet and she looked great but now his screen was clearly displaying the news of her death.

"She has?" Valeria raised a brow wondering who the poor woman had offended.

"Mmh, seems that everyone who attended the banquet is a suspect."

"The culprit will probably bribe or wipe out the evidence. Worse, they can put the blame on someone else."

"I don't think it will be that easy this time. The Hases and Ganvin combined efforts to look for Detective Adira Quinn."

"What did you say?" Valeria's eyes widened a bit.

"Detective Adira Quinn?" Liam raised his brows, "Do you know her?"

Valeria sighed, "Maybe." She leaned back on the chair she sat on.

Liam just nodded knowing he wouldn't get more. "What if we are found guilty? Someone might try to implicate us you know."

"The worst that can happen is getting our reputation ruined," she shrugged.

"Well, you're unreliable."

"Don't worry, it won't lead to us."

"How are you so sure?"

"Just wait and see." She stood to leave.

"Where are you going?"

"To meet someone."

"Okay, tell her to be thorough with her investigation," he waved and she paused for a while. She was indeed going to look for Adira. She had actually texted the person while they were talking. It seemed she always had to be careful around this husband of hers.

She didn't respond and instead directly left. Liam smiled and leaned back on the bed. He didn't have anything to do so he was bored.

"Sir?" The door was knocked. Did they wait for his wife to leave? He lazily dragged himself to the door and opened it.

"Yes?"

"Mr. Leon wants to have a talk with you."

"Okay, I am on my way."

With that he closed the door. Why did his father-in-law suddenly want to talk to him? He had actually planned to avoid that man.

The two people be never went to speak to were Leon and Tyler. Those two were a puzzle he did not understand and did not plan to understand yet. There were many mysteries in the mansion and the least he could do was solve his wife first.

The reason he gave off a weak and helpless man personality was so they could lower their guards around him. He knew at first they were warry of him as he could ruin whatever stuff they had but now...

He quickly freshened up and went to meet Leon. The man was waiting in the living room.

"Father-in-law," Liam called respectfully. Leon looked up from his phone and smiled.

"Sit, sit," he spoke and Liam sat opposite him. Liam still had his fake timid face and aura. Leon slowly scanned him for a long time before he spoke, "You're really good." Liam looked at him with confused eyes. Leon just sighed, "Why are you spreading lies about my daughter?"

Liam was taken aback by the question. Lies? How did he know? Didn't he also hate his daughter? "I..." He didn't know what to say. What if Leon was really sure he was lying?

"Don't lie to me, I'm not like them. I know my daughter more than anyone else."

At this point, Liam felt like his head was exploding. Taking in a deep breath, he carefully looked into Leon's eyes. No matter what, he could read anyone's eyes.

His father seemed to be truthful. "How?" He managed to ask.

"What do you mean how, I am her father," the man spoke so firmly.

"But you don't care about her," Liam had dropped his act. If his father already knew, it would be torturous if he kept pretending.

"Who said I don't?"

"Then why do you watch as everyone treats her so badly and spreads rumors about her? I'm not the only one you know," he crossed his arms and raised his brows. He finally got a chance to speak normally to someone else apart from Valeria.

"Why should I tell you? You still haven't answered my question," Leon spoke.

"I'm doing it to make her the next CEO," Liam admitted.

"What?" Leon quickly stood, "Why?!"

"Huh?" Again, Liam was confused. Wasn't it a good thing for Valeria to be the next CEO?

"I'm warning you, if you don't want trouble, don't let my daughter get that title."

"But, if she doesn't get it, won't she be kicked out? Won't you be kicked out?"

"We'll figure out a way when that time comes but right now, forget about it," Leon narrowed his eyes, "I will not let her suffer like her mother."

Liam also stood and looked at Leon directly in his eyes, "You don't want her to suffer? Right now, for some odd reason, everyone in the family hates her and they might take action against her. When one of them gets the title, they won't ruin their reputation by letting us run around in the streets, they will most probably kill us."

Leon paused, he hadn't thought about that. However, being the CEO could also get her into a lot of trouble. "What about you? Why don't you be the CEO?" He suddenly asked.

"I don't want to," Liam simply said.

"Why?"

"Why should I tell you? You won't tell me anything."

"Don't forget, I am your father-in-law."

"Of course you are," Liam smiled, "Please excuse me, father-in-law," and he left. Leon was left stunned. How was that person the shy and timid man who had no strength?
