Chapter 15 healing

The room was silent, the air heavy with tension as Selena lay beside Rowan, her form trembling as she pressed her body close to his. She stared up at Zarek, her eyes full of defiance and determination as he towered above her, his crimson gaze boring into hers. Selena clung to Rowan as tightly as she could, refusing to let go of him as she braced for the end.

Suddenly, a loud crash rang out as Draven threw his wife and daughter to the side, wrapped in thick chains, to prevent them from running loose again and charging Zarek, allowing him to get in range. The massive werewolf tackled Zarek as a huge ball of shadows wrapped him up, protecting him from the raging wolfman.

Selena watches the werewolf slam into the dark shadows wrapping around him, the shadows being crushed and squeezed by the massive beast, who just looks angrier with each passing second as his claws dig into the ball of shadows, tearing them apart piece by piece.

With a snap, the shadows explode with a giant blast of force and black magic, throwing Draven backwards with such force that his back slams into the concrete walls. "Damn mut," Zarek grumbled out, holding his bleeding side and panting for air, a crazy look in his eyes as he looked at everyone in the room, his gaze pausing on Selena and Rowan. "This is far from over." He announced, slamming his broken cane on the floor as the shadows swirled around him as he disappeared.

"Scouts follow him!" one of the veteran scouts yelled, his eyes glowing as he took off in the direction of the vanishing warlock. Selena's gaze focused on Rowan, her heart racing as she scanned his injuries. The sight of his broken body made her feel nauseous. "Healers," her voice croaks out barely a wheeze. "Please, someone help," she added. She laid her head down on Rowan's chest, listening to the faint beat of his heart and feeling the soft rise and fall of his chest with each shallow breath.

The familiar scent of Rowan wafted up to her nose as she inhaled deeply, letting the warmth of his body and the reassuring sound of his heart soothe her. Her body relaxing slightly as she heard foot steps running up behind her. "Don't worry, he will be okay." The female voice reassured Selena as she looked back to the three female healers with golden tattoos of a snake intertwined around a branch tattooed on their arms: "I'm Cassandra." One of the women introduced herself, "I will be looking you over while the other two look after your friend." She said softly, moving Selena off of Rowan, "Let's see here broken ribs, bruised windpipe, and a cracked back." She muttered to herself, her hands glowing as she ran them over Selena's body. "You will be sore for a few days, but nothing I can't fix." The witch smiled reassuringly as her hands pressed harder into Selena, glowing even stronger as beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.

The two other witches kneel next to Rowan, their hands glowing as they run them over his body. "He's worse off," one of them says. "It looks like his ribs have punctured his lungs, his back is shattered in multiple places, and he has severe internal bleeding." She explains clinically, "Well, Hannah, this is going to be exhausting." She said cracking a smile at the other witch as the two of them got to work repairing the damage to his body, their hands glowing as they focused on their task.

"What's wrong with them?" Draven growls at a witch looking over his family, who are still struggling against the chains holding them in place. "I don't know; it appears to be some kind of spell on them." The healer speaks calmly while the two females throw themselves against their restraints. "Well, figure it out," he spits out, her voice deep and menacing, only to get a glare back from the healer. "You had better watch your tone with me, werewolf," she spits back. "I'm here to help your family; if you want, I will leave them in your oh so caring hands," she quips at him sarcastically before turning back to the two struggling women.

Selena's gaze falls on the two witches looking over Rowan, her eyes fixed on them as she anxiously waits for an update on his condition. Her heart pounds in her chest as she watches the two of them, the seconds feeling like an eternity as she prays that he will be okay. As if sensing her thoughts, one of the witches turns to look at her, a smile forming on her lips. "Your friend will be just fine," she tells Selena. "However," she adds, "He will need to be kept in a clinic for a while so we can do some tests." Whatever curse Zarek put on him is surrounding his heart, and we can't tell what it is at this point. As for his injuries, they should be mostly healed tomorrow." She comforted Selena.

The sun rises over the abandoned construction site, washing the area in a warm glow as the wreckage of the previous night's battle lays strewn across the yard. As healers tend to the wounded, whoever was able to help clean up and tend to the dead. Draven and his pack worked tirelessly to help clean up the mess, as well as some of the hunters from the council. The whole site smells like death and the coppery stench of blood.

Laying in a bed at the clinic, Rowan stirs awake his body sore and stiff body from the healing process. "What happened?" he wondered, rubbing his eyes and groaning. Feeling something warm by his side, he looks over to see Selena sleeping by his side. Her clothes were different from her suit; she was wearing a pair of grey sweats and a tank top that clung to her toned body. "You're awake," she mumbled, opening her eyes to see him looking at her. "How are you feeling?"

Rowan sat up slowly, his body aching as he moved. "Like I've been run over by a truck," he muttered. "Where am I?" he asked, glancing around the small room. Selena pushed herself up with a soft groan, her back and arms aching from the previous night. "We are at a clinic run by witches; they wanted to take a closer look at the curse Zarek left on you when you first met him," she explained.
