Settling the aftermath

There were no more interesting things that had happened after the fight of Kara and the angel who took over Astrid's body when he summoned it. Kara on the other hand just decided to sit somewhere in the town square and no one really went close to him except Chris. Eyeballs kept stealing cautious glances at him as if crossing eyes with his crimson eyes was a sin. Somehow, it even made him remember the shadow clan.

Even the behavior of the people towards Chris changed considerably—turning to more cautious as if they were important yet dangerous guests.

After the fight, Gary had started to sleep, recovering his lost energy and blood. He was kept at a bed inside a house which was to be temporarily used by the special operations squad.

The adventurers and the special operations squad of the Jian Dukedom—led by Knight Faller—took care of the dead holy knights. They captured the survivors of the enemies and kept them all tied to a rope in the trees. At the same time, they also found out that the bandits of the former royal mage Cannon had taken under under his wing had been taken out by the holy knights when they encountered each other near the town.

After that, they made sure to not let a single one of them escape so that no one could send anything that transpired here to the Williamson Theocracy.

Considering the presence of Kara, they made sure to absolutely keep their goodwill known.

When the townsfolk were gone, the knights of the special operations squad killed all the survivor of the holy knights.

If word got out of what actually happened here, not only they would endanger themselves who sided with the church's heretic whose real identity was still unknown. Whether or not he belonged to the ten factions or a part of a strong organization.

At least by keeping what happened here to remain here, they would be at peace and safety.

Doctor Angelo on the other hand was now guarded by the special operations squad.

Time flew by and the town started to look normal again.

This time, Kara went to talk to the Mayor of the town.

The Mayor of the Town lives at a tall and bigger house compared to the other buildings.

Kara was sitting on the chair facing a round small table while the mayor was sitting on the opposite end aided by a few gentlemen including Knight Faller, Knight Hamon, and adventurer party leader Corre.

Looking at the mayor seated opposite to him, Kara could look at him as if he was on open book; afraid and wary. But that was not to be ignored. After all, the special operations squad of the dukedom would hear about this.

'It would not be far-fetched to know they were the one who pushed the mayor to speak with Kara.' Kara thought. 'Thus, I should not mess this up. This town is pleasant, it's far from the cities, and lives at an almost desolate territory far to the border. It works in my favor.'

With mixed emotions, mostly of fright, the mayor asked him.

"Forgive me if I should ask such a fine gentleman as powerful as you are, but," Mayor looked at the knights and adventurers as he said this, "we wish to know of Lord's intentions of coming here."

'So he must have heard from the adventurers and the knights that my story is I'm going specifically to this town?'

Kara nodded.

There was really no worth intentions of why did he chose to be here. He simply wanted to live permanently in the nearest town he could find. Turned out this was that town.

At first, Kara wanted to not expose his identity as a mage at all costs, as he thought that was what he was supposed to do.

But there was nothing wrong with it really. Norms and cultures suggest that having a mage in a community is the same as having a wall from invasion. With this, he could not only gain respect, but also good reputation from here on.

"I want everyone to rest assured. Like I said, I am but a mere wandering mage. I travel the lands since I left my village, and trained to become powerful." Kara then looked at Chris.

Chris was still young, but Knight Faller, knight Hamon, and Corre's facial expression indicated that they were not ruling him out as another natural mage. Someone as powerful as Kara.

"Sigh," Kara made sure to show his sigh, and smiled, "As for Chris, I only met him recently and found out he was separated from his parents due to an attack by bandits."

Knight Faller and Hamon who was standing close to the mayor looked at each other and nodded. Then they looked at the Mayor.

"Could we ask what do you intend to do now, my Lord? You saved us, so how could we be of use?" The mayor asked.

Kara waved his hand.

"I didn't do anything for rewards, but if possible, I have two requests."

"Two requests?"

"That's right. First is I would like I would like to settle for a house in this town, so if possible I would like an empty lot to build a house. It's quiet and the scenery is beautiful. Second is regarding Chris, Chris is only staying with me for a while but he wishes to go back to his parents in the North. If possible, I would like to make the knights accompany him."

Chris looked at Kara as if he was the most generous man he met. On the other hand, Knight Faller and Hamon glanced at each other and nodded.

Mages are usually proud beings. They would usually not do things for free. But with their power, it would be best to accept their requests especially when it was offered.

"As for Lord Kara's second request, we will obediently grant it in the honor of the Jian Dukedom," Knight Faller declared.

Seeing the conversation was over between the knights and the mage boy, the mayor spoke his mind.

"Same with us, my lord. As the savior of this town, we would like you to occupy the empty lot with the best scenery inside the town! We would also assist you in building the house you wish to live in!" The mayor declared.

Knight Hamon went outside after bowing to Kara, and brought Doctor Angelo right after.

Doctor Angelo was one of the four royal doctors working directly under the King. Unlike the knights of the special operations squad and the adventurers who all swore to keep their word, Doctor Angelo was a unique case.

"Lord Kara, how do we deal with him?" Knight Faller asked.

Kara sighed in his heart.

'I'm not supposed to be doing this,' he said inwardly.

But the future of Doctor Angelo was indeed something to think about and be concerned about. He was one of the four royal doctors under the King. Once he gets home, they would ask him of what transcribed here. If their luck was bad, maybe even someone from the Church would be the one to ask him since their men had just disappeared without a trace.

Waiting for Kara pondering, Doctor Angelo said what he had been thinking all this time. Doctor Angelo suddenly kneeled and voiced out his thoughts profoundly.

"My Lord, you are a powerful natural mage. I had never witnessed or heard of anyone as powerful as you at such a young age. Thus, I have concluded to ask a shameless request, may you make me stay here in this town?"

Everyone was stunned at what he just said!

He was a royal doctor!

Was he going to abandon such a privilege?

"Indeed, if you stay here, no word would get out and you would not have to suffer from anything. But do you not wish to keep your current position?"

"I do not. I had longed distanced myself from the workings of the kingdom and had been extremely against of everything. Here I could start over. If I go back, the King would definitely know what transpired here using mind magic from his royal mages, and the church would hear of it."

Everyone looked at Kara to see how he would respond.

Kara rolled his eyes inwardly and could almost laugh. If Doctor Angelo went back home, the adventurers and the knights of the special operations squad would definitely unsheathe their swords and take his head.  After all, he holds information that could also endanger them, especially of the Duke and the Dukedom.

"Well, you can stay if the mayor approves." Kara slowly said.

Quick to take note of this, the mayor who was too afraid just envisioned the future and saw two mages occupying their small town.

Wouldn't that be a good promising future?
