Chapter 40

Scott is leaning against the Jeep, parked at the edge of the Hale property, as he watched Derek get marched out of the house in handcuffs by one of the Beacon County Sheriff's Department's deputies. Derek looks over at Scott with a scowl that causes Scott to look down at the ground with an expression of mixed guilt and shame as Derek is pushed into the back of a deputy's cruiser.

A moment later, Scott notices Stiles walking from out of the woods toward the cruiser, which is unattended now that the rest of the deputies are checking out the crime scene itself. Scott's mouth gapes open in shock when he realizes what Stiles is about to do, just as Stiles looks back at Scott. Scott immediately tries to get Stiles to stop by mouthing his response at him"No!"

Stiles ignores him and darts toward the passenger door to the cruiser and opens it so he can talk to Derek, causing Scott to groan in exasperation"Oh, God..."

Scott turns away from them, unable to watch but not wanting to draw more attention to what Stiles is doing.Meanwhile, Stiles sits in the passenger seat and turns around so he can face Derek and speak to him through the caged window between the backseat and the front seats of the cruiser. It's obvious that he's nervous because of how he is rambling"Okay, just so you know, I'm not afraid of you."

Derek's head is tilted down, but his eyes move up to look at Stiles through his eyelashes with a scowl that immediately terrifies Stiles, who added'...Okay, maybe I am. Doesn't matter. I just wanna know something."

Stiles shifts nervously in his seat and asked"The girl you killed? Was she a Werewolf."

Derek continues to scowl blankly and silently at Stiles, who keeps talking"Where is the body and Why did you killed her?"

Derek finally lifts his head to speak, but his tone of voice is understandably irritable due to the current situation"Why are you so worried about me, when it's your friend who's the problem?"

Derek jerks his head toward where Scott is standing for emphasis, and Stiles moves back away from Derek a tiny bit

But Derek continued"When he shifts on the field, what do you think they're gonna do, huh? Just keep cheering him on?"

Stiles gulps in anxiety, knowing that Derek isn't exactly wrong

Derek seeing he us getting through to stiles added"I can't stop him from playing, but you can..."

Derek leans forward so his face and Stiles' are only inches apart as he lowers his voice to a whisper"And trust me-- you want to."

Before Stiles really has a chance to process this, the passenger door opens, and a hand is seen yanking Stiles out of the car by his father.

Derek could only groan in annoyance,he was really hoping for Alexander to spring him out of this.

Just then, Sheriff pulls Stiles out of the car and scolds him for talking to Derek before questioning him on how he found the bloody shirt in the first place. Stiles lies that they were looking for Scott's inhaler, which only exposes his lie in the previous episode that Scott wasn't out in the woods with him. Sheriff then tells Stiles to leave, so he and Scott drive back home in the Jeep. Scott goes vanished.

At the game that night, Scott and Stiles are heading to the field, and Stiles tells him he hopes that he knows what he's doing. Scott argues that he just wants a semi-normal life where he can be on the team and go out with Allison, so Stiles sighs and insists that he do his best not to worry too much while he's out on the field, which does little to ease Scott's nerves.

During the game, Jackson orders the rest of the players to only throw the ball to him, not Scott, but when Danny points out that they shouldn't haze Scott and risk losing the game, also in the middle of the game Scott starts to lose control, and Stiles begins to panic from the bench while everyone in the stands starts to cheer for him to make the goal. After a moment of being totally overwhelmed, Scott's enhanced hearing picks up Allison's voice in the stands saying, "You can do it, Scott. You can do it, Scott," which allows him to regain control enough to make the game-winning goal.

Stiles lowers his arms and sighs in relief that the game managed to end in a win without Scott hurting or killing anyone due to changing and muttered"Oh, my God!"

Scott is still standing in the middle of the field, seemingly dumbstruck by the fact that he just won the game, having scored half of the total amount of points made by the team. However, he's finally brought back to reality when he suddenly drops his stick on the ground and removes his right glove to find that, despite his eyes and teeth returning to normal, his fingernails are extending into claws, indicating that he's losing control again. Not wanting to expose his secret to the crowd, he runs toward the school just as the audience members start running onto the field to congratulate and console the players on the Beacon Hills and opposing teams

Allison, excited to congratulate Scott on a job well done, runs toward where she had seen him standing and is confused to find that he has vanished in the crowd. She looks around in an effort to find him, and her smile dims slightly in confusion when she sees him running quickly toward the school. Argent, having just made it to the sidelines, stops and watches with interest as Scott runs away, continuing to do so as Allison rushes after Scott to see what is going on, a suspicious and curious expression forming on his face.

Stiles is still seated on the bench, albeit by himself, as he continues to relax now that the danger of Scott turning and exposing himself as a Werewolf has seemingly passed (at least to his knowledge). However, behind him in the now-abandoned bleachers, Stilinski was with Alexander.

Which made Stiles to narrow his eyes,since hos father was really serious and seemed annoyed.

Stiles has just let out a deep sigh of relief when he sees the concerned expression on his dad's face and calls out to him"Dad, what's wrong?"

Stilinski and Alexander narrowed there eyes at Stiles, who gulped in fear.Since he had the feeling they messed up something.

Alexander spoke up"You guys messed up, Derek was't the killer."

Stiles was confused and said"But the blood on the shirt matched with the one they found in the forest."

Stilinski sighed and said"We found the person, who it belonged and it is Derek's sister Laura Hale, who currently in coma after being attacked by someone and it wasn't Derek, since he wasn't even in the state at the time."

Stiles was shocked and rambled"Then why didn't they call off the search if Derek knew about this."

Alexander answered"Because the attacker is still on the loose and he seems to have lured Laura here on purpose.So we didn't want to tip him off and Sheriff's higher ups knew about this."

Stiles looked at his father, who nodded and questioned"Did you break into Hales house?"

Stiles was flustered and tried to make excuses, but his father seeing this knew the truth and said"I am able to get you from being arrested, but this is going to be on your record.The same can be said for Scott."

Stiles should slumped and thought"Scott is going to freak out."
