Shadow Assassin: Dual Attributes

(!The credit for the Book Cover goes to the creator, it isn't mine!) It is a hard living in the new age of the modern world, on Earth. Especially if you did not have any Abilities; it was the case for Quinn. His parents were ambassadors, and secretly, Assassins working for the 'greater good'. Wars were quite a frequent occurance on Earth, leaving only ravaged remains of the once beautiful planet. Although, the once frequent wars had stopped and the world finally entered a fleeting age of peace, the larger powers were in a deadlock and in high geopolitical tension. The majority of the interstellar planets and bases were owned by Capitalist powerhouses that held only base value in high regards and sought after strong trans-humans: an evolved species of Humans that were compatible with Ability Dews that were found on alien planets and could extract and use different types of supernatural Abilities themselves. Quinn's parents were sent on an obvious su**ide-mission on the battlefront of some planet by the Governance of Earth, to 'fight and serve' their home-planet by fighting off the opposition consisting of a terrorist group called the "Elementals", and secretly, a whole another unknown enemy... Receiving their last, parting gift, Quinn got his hands on something that was completely out of scope for normal Humans, or any other intelligent race that could possibly or ever will exsist. It was of unknown origins when his parents found it, and only he would be the one to discover its true functioning and creator. He would become something that was nothing like a Human... he would forsake his life and living, only to find the truth about the artefact and why it chose him. He would fight enemies of the peaceful inhabitants of Earth in hopes to protect those that he once loved, when he was still Human. Furthermore, he would fight other beings in the shadows of different realms; discover secrets of the Universe and the one above it all. No, not God; nor the Great Old Ones. Nay, not even the Outer Gods. But, the one and only... above creation itself: a dream that birthed it; the Absolute Being. Existing in the Real World, out of this wretched Dream of his. Only by meeting his real origins and awakening, would Quinn be able to escape this accursed cycle that only he knew the truth of; alone, would he protect the mortals... in hopes of protecting only those that he loved.

Lich King

As he was waiting for the [Apostle Lich] to finish summoning the [Lich King], he scaled a nearby, now demolished skyscraper with unbelievable speed and dexterity. Not more than a minute remained now, as Quinn stretched atop the building.

"Khahahah-!" Quinn flung his arms sideways as he looked at the dark starry sky with a maniacal grin, "Now, I can have some fun! S-rank, huh? Bring it on then!"

[Time Remaining: 0 Minutes]

[The Lich King is descending upon the fallen world of Jezch. A great catastrophe awaits for the core of this world if the Lich King is not neutralised.

The Lich King desires the very essence of celestial bodies now, and will obliterate the world that he has been summoned to.]

[Defeat the Lich King and save the fallen world, allowing for life to flourish once again, to gain greater rewards.]

"That goes without saying-!" Quinn jumped down towards the [Apostle Lich], relishing his dual swords and imbueing them with Demise Energy. Drop kicking the [Apostle Lich] from a height of well over 200 metres, he slashed it with both of his swords simultaneously, instantly killing it via dismembering its head and core unintentionally, and outright obliterating it with the Demise Energy.

'Sweet,' Quinn sheathed his swords as he backed off from the rift that had opened from the Summoning Magic Circle. From the rift, emerged a giant figure; that of the [Lich King]. It wore a great array of magic jewels; its gaunt and skeletal figure with decaying and tattered flesh was masked behind a dark, ancient armour and flowing robes.

Its robes, tattered and worn, made from luxurious, but now decayed, fabrics, trail behind him, moving as if animated by some unseen force that suspend them mid-air. Its crown that symbolises its heavenly power was encrusted with dark gems that pulse with necromantic energy. Its regalia was a sceptre, topped with the skull of some unknown creature—almost appearing like a small dragon's skull—and a dark crystal atop it.

It spoke telepathically in a deep, resonant whisper that seems to echo from the depths of a crypt to Quinn, surpassing any and all language barriers: 'Art thou who hast summon'd my pristine self? Speak.'

Quinn, for a brief moment, was stunned due to the monster's ability to converse with him; although via telepathic means. "Nah, old timer," he pointed at the ground, "He was... . Well, he's dead now-"

'Ah-hah,' the [Lich King] tapped its sceptre on the ground, releasing a wave of sinister and deathly energy, like a gale of wind. 'It is nigh time for me to extract the Celestial Essence of this world. You shall perish with it; speak now: what do you desire?'

"Hmm," Quinn thought for barely a second before speaking, "Why are you trying to get this Celestial Essence, and what is it?"

'Time is of essence for me,' the [Lich King] emphasised before it began to speak normally, 'The Celestial Essence originates from the dawn of creation; a byproduct of the cosmic forces that brought the whole universe into existence. A reminder of the first spark of existence. It links all of the worlds, dimensions and planes of existence; with enough of these infinite sources of energy, I can become an even higher level of being: a God!'

Just as Quinn was about to ask another question, he got a message from the Shadow Heart:

[Interrogating any further is not adviced. Kill the Lich King and complete the Weekly Quest]

'You fucking dare...?' Quinn silently gritted his teeth as he read the message with a grim expression, 'Have it your way then. But, before that...'

"So, you wanna become a God, huh?" he asked, "How many of these Celestial Essences do you have and how many do you need to become one? Also, where are they?"

[WARNING]

'Ahh,' the [Lich King] exhaled, 'Arrogant human. I will oblige and entertain you only because it is your final day on this fallen world. I have seven of these Celestial Essences in my possession, but I do not know how many I need to ascend to the level of a God. Ah, and I have them right here, under my robe. Not like you could even try and take them-'

The [Lich King]'s teeth clattered as he laughed at Quinn.

'Right, right,' Quinn drew his swords and imbued them with Demise and Arcane Energy, 'I'll kill it now-!'

[-240 Energy]

He clashed both of his swords together and used Origin Energy to form a miniature Sun that blinded the [Lich King] and himself too, almost. It illuminated the surroundings to the point where it felt like it was noon and the Sun was at its highest point, directily overhead Quinn and the enemy. He propelled the ball of plasma towards the [Lich King] using Arcane Energy.

'Hoh,' the [Lich King] exclaimed, 'Nice trick, child! But, I am king of all magics; this cannot work against my Negation Barrier!'

As the plasma ball moved towards the target, a giant transparent barrier became visible, that stopped the ball in its tracks. The clash of the two different forces was magnificent and blinding. Despite the [Lich King]'s utter belief in the Negation Barrier, it could not stop the ball of plasma that Quinn had manifested with Origin Energy.

The ball of plasma destroyed the Negation Barrier that, supposedly, was said to negate all kinds of magic. However, unfortunately for the [Lich King], Quinn had used a Primordial Energy instead of some magic; and Primordial Energy, does not bend to an inferior force.

'How....?!' the [Lich King] recoiled in fear of being hit head-on by the plasma ball that broke its Negation Barrier, but alas, there was nothing it could do to avoid it since it was already quite close to it and was travelling at a fast velocity.

There is an explosion after the sudden contact of the [Lich King] with the ball of plasma, turning the nearby debris into dust that provided a smoke-screen. Quinn swung his larger sword, clearing the dust, revealing the [Lich King]. It stood in all the glory of its malignant stature, even after being hit by such a powerful attack.

'You... HUMAN!!!' it released more powerful necromatic energy, engulfing the entire surrounding area. Its crown, along with its dark gems, was shattered. It seemed as though it was sacrificed to save the [Lich King].

"Hahaha-!" Quinn laughed as he swung his swords continuously at a fast rate, "How fun!"

His swings cut through the space itself with the help of Arcane Energy and established a brief domain of Demise Energy that would then be propelled forward at near light speed with the help of some more Arcane Energy. However, due to the delay between the swings and the manifestation of the two kinds of energy, the [Lich King] had already anticipated an attack, and casted a spell to dodge. And, thus, it teleported outside of Quinn sight.

[-360 Energy]

'I've still a lot of Energy left since I've leveled up a lot...' Quinn thought as he stopped the Demise Domains in their tracks, 'Let's see where you escaped to, eh?'

He used Arcane Energy to find the [Lich King]'s live position without wasting even a second, and launched the Domains towards it. Not even a second later, he heard a cry from the target.

[-180 Energy]

Using [Instantenous Acceleration], Quinn reached his destination of the location of the [Lich King], and without wasting any time, kicked it, lauching it even further, and breaking off a few bones along with its armour.

As if using a final trump card to prevent meeting its own demise, the [Lich King] poured every ounce of its being into a spell, counjering and manifesting it within 5 seconds as it was thrown back by Quinn. 'DIEEEE!!' it yelled.

As if it weren't dark enough, the spell that the [Lich King] used had cast the surrounding area, if not the entire world, into utter darkness. Black lightening struck continuously, drawing closer to Quinn every second. The [Lich King]'s eerie laugh echoed across every corner of the world, 'Boy, you should not have been-'

Quinn cut the [Lich King] off: "Pfft-HAHAHAHAHAHAH!"

The [Lich King] only watched in silence, ceasing all attacks. 'What? Why art thou laughing yet?! ANSWER!'

Quinn didn't even bother answering, he stood still, laughing and gasping for air. "Ahh, man... . What a sick joke~. Are you serious right now, Shadow Heart?"

"Whatever, I don't even care anymore," Quinn put his swords away, "Let me show you how its done, bone-meal. This... is the real deal."

Quinn moved his arms, in the air, to his sides, leaving himself completely open, and used [Mist Of Nowhere]. An immaculate and ineffable mist brewed and overwhelmed the darkness that was casued due to the [Lich King]'s spell, and dissipating it.

Now that Quinn had finally become a real Shadow, the compromised cost of the Skill was now renewed: [Cost: 5,000 Mana].

'Kuu...AHHHH,' the [Lich King]'s physical form was visible once more, as it kneeled down in trepidancy, 'Who... no, what... are you?'

[The Target: Lich King, has been afflicted with the Status Ailment: Terrify]

"Me?" Quinn pointed at himself, before activating yet another Skill, "...you'll see."

[Eternal Darkness]

The [Lich King], once venerated on not only its home world, but also on a number of other interstellar planets and dimensions; the one who was king of all magics and sorcery; a feared being that was at the apex of evolution; the one that conquered and destroyed literal worlds and collected Celestial Essences, with the goal of becoming a God... now kneeled to a former human, now turned a Shadow, in hopeless vice.

It raised its head once more to look at what manner of being had made it fall to such an extent. And there it saw: true fear... in the deepest depths of the Abyss of the shadows, Quinn's eyes glowed like that of a Primordial Behemoth, locked in the depths of Hell itself, that would once more rise from its slumber to devour the very Gods and even higher beings.

All of the Shadows that existed aeons ago, did so in the voids between dimensions. Thusly, they were dimensionless and could reside in such bizzare places; they could be termed as omnipresent creatures of the Primordial Era of Erxenos. Due to their undimensionless property, they might as well be deemed as outright indestructable, or even unharmable if not subjected to the most powerful Divine Authority(As of now).

Effect: The possessor of this skill may transcend as a Shadow into a higher state of being, and enter a state of complete invulnerability for a split second; 99% Chance to Terrify mortal foes.
