Shades of Art

From theater nerds to egocentric singers and mathletes to jocks, this school has it all. For a performing arts school in the city of Portland, Oregon, there are many different kids with many different backgrounds. All of which are dealing with the stress society puts on teenagers in this generation. Follow each of the main characters as they go through drama, relationships, horrible home lives, and outside threats and issues that affect them in high school. Follow all of the characters through their sophomore year all the way until they graduate and head their separate ways to college. This will most likely become a 4 part series going through each year of high school including sophomore-senior and the summer following senior year. All songs used in this book are from the t.v. show Riverdale. So all music/lyric creds go to them. If you want to listen to the season one soundtrack then I strongly recommend you do so, so you’ll get to hear the songs. If you want more visuals, this book is also uploaded on Wattpad, which has the music and videos of the dancers on there so if you need visuals. My username on Wattpad is “angelraindrops”. (This book is labeled as a male lead, but the point of views jump around a lot. There are multiple main characters) Overall Trigger Warning: This book has some serious issues that are talked about all throughout the series. Things like abuse, sexual assault, abortion, police brutality, drug use, suicide, abortions, and hate crimes. Things along those lines are openly talked about.

Adalyia Dubois POV:

I was nervous to tell Elio about my life. I don't really know him that well. If I told him, what would stop him from telling everyone about it? Nothing because I'd be the only one getting backlash for it. So I thought about it a little as we were sitting there. Then, I came to my conclusion.

"I'm not ready to tell you. I want to be in the right frame of mind and I don't want pity from you", I tell him honestly. He nods his head and says, "I wasn't expecting you to be. I honestly didn't want you to just because Roxanne had threatened you. I want you to tell me when you're ready, not when someone pushes you to be. Plus I understand that we don't know each other that well. You want to know that I'm trustworthy . I want to prove to you that I am. So take your time". I squeeze his hand almost as a sign of a thank you.

We both stand from the bleachers and give each other a long hug. He leaves soft kisses in my hair as we rock from foot to foot. Suddenly we hear someone clearing their throat. It was one of the coaches. "I really don't want to report this. I'll pretend I didn't see this and you kids go to class. Alright?", he says. "We were headed back already coach", Elio laughs. He pulls away from our hug and takes a hold of my hand, leading us both back to class.

Isla Mendez' POV:

After Roxanne's scene at the beginning of class, everyone has been on edge. We are currently doing some partner work when Mateo turns to me. "What was that all about? Why would she do something like that?", he whispers to me. "She's jealous of Adalyia because she's already getting the attention from Elio that she wants for herself", i say shrugging my shoulders.

He looks over at her and rolls his eyes. "Elio has made it abundantly clear that he doesn't want her", he says with irritation. "Yeah everyone knows that, but she won't give up", I say back to him. He looks at me with curiosity and I raise a brow at him.

"Speaking of Elio..", he trails off. "What about him?", I ask confused. "Every girl at this school literally worships the ground he walks on. How come you don't?", he asks me. "I'm personally not attracted to Elio. Is he and amazing singer? Yeah. Does he have great writing skills? Sure. Honestly, I just don't see him beyond a friend level", I say shrugging my shoulders.

I started to become a little nervous. No one knows this, but I've been crushing on Mateo for a while now. That's why I've distanced myself from him. I don't want him to become too much of a distraction. If he does, that's all I'll hear about from my parents.

As of recently, I feel more and more attracted to him. So I've decided that I'm opening up to him, and letting whatever happens happen. Who knows? Maybe something great will come out of it.

Suddenly we hear the door open. Everyone turns their heads towards the door, including Mateo and I. We all watch as Elio and Adalyia walk in together, holding each other's hands, and smiling really hard. I hope that their relationship, if it even is one, goes far. Adalyia needs someone like Elio in her life. She deserves happiness and love because unfortunately, she doesn't have that luxury right now.

Elio Bianchi's POV:

We go through the rest of class with a lot of glances toward our table. I could tell that Adalyia was bothered by it, so I'd grab her hand under the table and whisper to her to just ignore them. After class ends, I grab my things and tell Adalyia to wait for me. "What's your next class?", I ask her. "I have dance", she says with a light smile on her face. "Good because that's on my way and I want to walk you", I say grabbing her hand and walking us out of class.

After dropping Adalyia off, I make my way to the gym and meet up with the coach. "Alright boys! We're gonna go out onto the field and practice a little bit for the game coming up!", coach yells to us. We all go out and do our own warm ups. One of the guys shouts my name and I run over to him. "What's up?", I ask him. "Dude what's going on with you and that Adalyia chick?", he asks me with a smirk on his face. Suddenly all the guys are listening in.

I look towards Mateo and then say, "We're just friends. She's pretty cool". "Yeah right! You have gotta be into her dude. She's like the only chick you pay attention to", he says laughing. Suddenly he gasps and says, "Yo did you bang her on the first day or some shit!? Tell me she doesn't have you pussy-whipped already". That immediately made my blood boil. "Shut the hell up! Don't you EVER disrespect her like that! Don't you ever even THINK about her like that! I have never touched her in such a way and even if I did you perverts wouldn't even know about it. Keep her name out of your fucking mouth! Are we clear?", I shout at him.He looks a little scared and lets out a little, "Yeah". "Good that's what I fucking thought", I say turning around and walking towards Mateo. I sit next to him and he looks at me.

"What was that about?", he asks. "I just don't like when people talk about girls, especially Adalyia, like that. It's disgusting. What I do and who I do it with is none of their concern", I say in irritation. "Dude just chill out, it'll be fine. They're just idiots who don't know any better", he says shrugging his shoulders.

"That's the problem Mateo. They should know better than to say and think thinks like that. Not only was it an invasion of privacy to me, but imagine how Adalyia would feel about them making comments like that. From what I've gathered she's already been through enough. People making dumbass comments like that just make it worse. Her dancing at the showcase and those guys wondering what she's like in bed and all the positions she can get into. Like what in the actual fuck?!", I rant to him.

Mateo gives me a sad, but exasperated. "Why don't you take this period and settle down Elio", our coach says walking back over to us. "Fine, whatever", I say getting up, grabbing my things, and walking back inside the school. I go to the locker room and put my things away, changing back into my normal clothes. I then decided I'd go to the recording room and maybe write some things out.

As I was walking through the hallway, I spotted Adalyia. She sees me as well, and walks towards me. "Why aren't you in class Elio?", she asks confused. "I got into an argument with one of the other guys on the team. Coach told me to come in and settle down", I say quietly. "What happened?", she asks me with a concerned look on her face. I pull her into my arms and give her a hug. "Nothing you need to worry your pretty little head about. Speaking of me being out of class. Aren't you supposed to be in the studio?", I ask her changing the subject.

She looks up at me and says, "Yeah, but it's only the second day, and I have freshmen in my class so we are just going over procedures, rules, and expectations right now. I luckily got a pass and I was going to go o the library". "Or you could come with me to the recording room. Maybe you can help me write lyrics that aren't, what did you call them, oh yeah cheesy", I joke smiling down at her. "That's fine with me. Lead the way", she says smiling up at me.

I pull away from her, grab her hand, and lead her to the recording room. Once we get there we put our stuff down. I immediately go pick up my guitar which I left here yesterday after school. She sits down and looks around the room, then looks at me. "So, how does this process work? Ya know like writing lyrics and all", Adalyia asks. I look at her and sit down. "Well usually when my emotions are all over the place and I'm not sure what to do I just play a little melody of some sort", I say while starting to strum some chords. "Then I just start singing some things that come to mind", I say. Then I let whatever flows through my mind form a song.

"I'm lost in a memory of the place where summer ends,

Late night when this town gets small

I'll be running through the streets again

Let's make it hard to hold on..

I think of Adalyia dancing.

Come on, turn the radio on

And honey, let's dance, dance, dance

For the rest of the night

I think of our almost kiss.

It's better left unsaid

I pause smiling at her and think of when she told me she wants to dance forever.

Yeah come on, play the remix loud

And honey, we'll dance, dance, dance

For the rest of our lives

I think of our time earlier today.

I'm not ready to go yet

We've got history to forget"

Once I had finish strumming the chords, I wait for Adalyia's reaction. "Not bad Bianchi, not bad", she says with a light smile on her face. Her smile suddenly drops and she just simply, looks at me. "Can we chat about something?", she asks. I put my guitar down and reply, "Yeah of course".

She brings her chair closer to mine and sits in from of me and puts her hands out for me to grab. I immediately do just that and look at her waiting for her say what she needs to. "I'm aware that you feel whatever this is going on between us. I need you to understand though, that it'll be a process. It's not gonna be this instant thing where we are already together. I want to take it slow and feel it out. I don't really know how to do these kinds of things so bear with me okay", she says looking into my eyes. I laugh a little at her and she gives me a look of confusion.

"Dalyia, I get it a hundred percent, okay. I'm not gonna rush or force you into anyhting you're not comfortable with. As long as this still happens I'll wait however long is necessary", I say smiling at her. We just sit there for a while getting to know each other more. We exchange numbers and everything too, just so I can bother her at any time. Soon the bell rings and we have to separate. I give her a big hug and kiss on her forehead and head off to my last couple of classes.
