Shade on a Sunny Day

A man raised by traitors that still has strong convictions. A what do you do when you have a dangerous power and no power with those around you. There is blood, slavers, and other topics that might not be for everyone. This is a prequel book to another book I have written but never shared. Sorry if I skip over anything, it should stand alone though.

I saw Isa's shoulders rise and fall but I didn't hear the sigh, "What happened?"

"Well, he woke up, mam. Asked how long he had been asleep, I told him and called him master." I felt Isa have a spark of amusement like she knew what would happen next, and considering that we were raised with the same core beliefs she might know. "He didn't like that and said to call him sir or Mir. Is Mir his name? It sounded like his name." 112 didn't pause for answer and Isa let her continue, "Next he asked what orders you have given me, and I told him. Then he asked how long I was there, I told him. Then he asked if you named the little one, which is a strange question for a man, but I told him." Damn her mind was good which considering her health at the start was amazing.

Isa stopped her, "That we have not named her, correct?"

112 nodded, "Correct, as far as I know you have not." I felt Isa worry a moment but she relaxed a bit. "Next he asked if I was one you and Bella chose to meet the requirements of the lord. I told him yes."

112 was going to continue but Isa shifted slightly which got her attention, "I am sorry, I didn't-"

I felt Isa blink in surprise as 112 interrupted her. "No, that's not." She shook her head hard and continued, "Wait, please, I am not done, mam. Anyway told him yes, then he asked how I was involved, told him. Wait, I think I got those backwards. Yes, he asked me what I had done first then if I had been chosen for the extra requirements. Then he told me to come here," I felt Isa's anger spike, "Which caused me to get lost in thought about what you said he was like, I don't think he really understood because he said that wasn't an order 112, and that I could leave if I wanted, go back to you is what he said I think he said. Well, I got stuck on the number since you have never used it and mam Bella seems to leave my care to you. When I told him that, he said I didn't have any orders then but maybe group ones." 112 shrugged but her speech didn't slow, "Oh, he had moved the blanket aside and patted the bed next to him, so I knew what he wanted and I don't mind, figured if you would have a problem with mouth work you would have told me before asking me to watch over him. And that was strange, amazing, strange."

I wandered if the irritation Isa felt was shown to the slave but the slave's emotions didn't react to it. Shit, Isa is mad at me. Isa raised her hand and 112 paused, "That explains why you look better, so what is wrong?"

"Sorry, mam. That was amazing, but just before that after I told him how I was involved with how you got stabbed, he said he wasn't going to punish me for choosing what I felt I had to at the time to survive."

"From the sounds of it he hasn't." The spike in Isa's aura didn't match her words. Could she also be jealous? No that has to be wrong.

"That is correct, he has not, but that doesn't mean I don't feel bad about it now that I have talked with you, and him. And that is why I panicked when he laid me down where he had been, I didn't mean to but… anyway, I think he noticed."

"Oh, and because you felt bad you didn't want him to share. That makes sense." Well at least she didn't run away because I was too wild and I did let her run away. I took a steadying breath and let it go. Isa had shrugged but I got the feeling she was just filing her feelings away for later.

112 bowed clapping her hands above her head, "I am sorry, I didn't mean to cause him to bother you, mam. I should have…" She couldn't seem to think of something and Isa laughed.

112 flinched like the laughter had been a physical blow, Isa clapped her hands over the woman's, "He didn't ask you to get me because you turned him down. He told you to get me because he has work to do and he knows I would keep a lid on all the pots until he woke up. You probably worried him, he most likely thinks you ran because he hurt you in some way. Which considering how much magic he had to have used to get you looking so much better, probably bothered him too much for him to realize that you wouldn't know that he would never miss direct anger at either me or Bella. Come on." Isa turned and opened the main room door.

112 hesitated, "He probably doesn't want to see me, right, mam."

Isa turned and smiled at 112, "If I thought that, I would have taken you down stairs to have this conversation. He has amazing hearing, and you left him with nothing to focus on." Isa didn't look back again as walked to the bedroom door, "Besides, don't you want to know what he thinks is so important but not important enough to put off sex for?"

"Well, yes, mam." 112 hurried to catch up with Isa. She tried to get to the door first but Isa had been too far ahead.

I crossed my arms over my bare chest. I felt like pulling up the blanket but it had been out of reach by the time I thought about it, "It isn't that I didn't think it wasn't more important than sex, it is that it is late and you probably need your sleep, more then I need to know what has been happening."

112 looked at Isa in surprise, but Isa didn't even slow. "Right all the way up to the point that she confused you by actually taking you up on the offer of telling you no. Which is also why it couldn't wait until morning anymore." Isa tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as she walked up to the bed. Yes, she was mad at me. I schooled my expression so she might not be able to tell that I knew.

I made an exaggerated frown at Isa, "Well, yeah, thank you for that by the way." I meant thank you but it might not have sounded like that. The girl hadn't done anything to deserve what I wanted to do to her. She does look much better but so did Isa, was something wrong with me?
