Shade on a Sunny Day

A man raised by traitors that still has strong convictions. A what do you do when you have a dangerous power and no power with those around you. There is blood, slavers, and other topics that might not be for everyone. This is a prequel book to another book I have written but never shared. Sorry if I skip over anything, it should stand alone though.

Power corrupts

*Warning this and the next chapter are more adult.

I wasn't sure how long I slept this time, somehow I woke in my own room. I shifted and sat up before I noticed I was not alone in the dark room. I tried to look at the unfamiliar woman but it was too dark to see her with my eyes. My other senses told me she wasn't one of my wives as much as the fact that she was on a chair near the door did. "How long was I out this time?"

The woman jumped when I addressed her. "Three days," the woman hesitated, "Master."

"There is only one master in the world and I am not it. Sir, or Mir work, even for slaves." The woman tensed for a moment but she didn't move. I could feel the collar move slightly in the dark. She must be one of the 20 women then. Crap, three days, our mother is probably not all that happy with me. "What did my wives order from you?"

"That I watch over you and be ready to do as you ordered when you woke, sir." There was a hesitation on the address but she said it.

If I had been out three days, she could have been in that chair for a day maybe, her collar didn't seem completely set but I couldn't be sure in the dark. I didn't think my wives would be cruel enough to leave another woman awake and with no distractions, no food, no water for very long. No matter how angry with her over-all they might be, "How long have you been sitting there?"

"Just a few hours, sir. Since dinner."

"Have my wives, named my girl yet?"

The woman frowned and the collar twitched as she shifted. It seemed to be having a hard time mapping this woman, from what I had learned recently some people, more woman then men are very hard for the collars to read. Not that it matters the collar always sets in time. The longest time noted was a year. There were some interesting notes on why that might have been. The ledger that information had been in predated the civil war. "No, sir."

"Well that is nice of them." The woman wasn't afraid of me, she was looking right at me, though there was no way she could see me in the dark. "What role did you play in getting Isa stabbed?"

"I informed one of the women when she split up from her sister, sir."

She had paused and frowned before answering. She wasn't so much afraid of what I might do but I got the feeling she didn't want to make one of my wives mad. It had the same effect, she must be a street girl then and it was not uncommon for women in the city to forget that men are dangerous. "Did you know what the end goal was?"

"For me the goal was to get paid, if I had known the tax on that income I wouldn't have taken it, sir. Though it could be worse."

"Oh? Why?"

"At least here I can eat, sir."

I nodded in the dark. Street girl. "That is true, so far I can acquire the means to feed all the people that seem to be appearing around me. Did Isa and Bella choose you to meet a requirement our lord made?"

"Yes, sir." Her fear rose a little but I caught a flash of memory of her talking with Isa as she stamped down on her fear. There was another flash of someplace I had not seen but I wasn't sure what it meant.

She flinched and looked down as I created a globe of light so I could see the woman. She was unhealthily skinny. I knew it wasn't My wife's fault no one could lose that much weight overnight. She was naked, except for one blanket folded over her lap. She was clean, but that was about the only healthy thing about her. "Come here."

She twitched with just a touch of surprise before rising from the chair. I hadn't made it an order, the collar wasn't set anyway. She took a second to set the blanket on the chair before standing at the foot of the bed.

I smiled at her but I didn't think she saw it since she was staring at the foot of the bed. She seemed unsure, Isa knew me pretty well and she had probably told this woman that I probably wouldn't want anything from her until after I had talked to her and Bella. Normally she would have been right too. But the hour was late and I did want something but I didn't want to wake them. I should get control over myself but I couldn't muster the will power to even try to muster the will power. This was just too easy.

I pulled my sheets to the side, "All the way here." I tapped a place beside my hip. Which drew her eyes up the bed. She hesitated, I suppressed a sigh, "It isn't an order. If you would rather run back to my wives, you may go." I used a small thread of power to get the number off the collar since I couldn't see it even with the light, "112."

Her hand reached up to the unset collar around her neck. "I didn't know what number it was."

I gave a small snort and a smile, "Then you didn't really have any orders, except maybe group ones." 112 started to look up but her eyes stopped short of my face and I saw her swallow. I knew she knew what I was thinking but my nature kept trying to sneak in and get the better of me anyway. "I won't punish you for doing what you thought you had to to survive. Well, more truthfully I won't go out of my way to punish you more."

The woman snorted, then placed her hands on either side of my legs watching for if I would pull away. I stayed still and she put a knee on the bed and then another. She moved slowly as I watched her.

She crawled until she could put one hand on the spot I had tapped and the other on a spot equal distance from me on the other side. I could feel her breath on my exposed manhood. I tried to not react but as it usually does, it didn't listen to me. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. I must be a bad man at heart, she was just barely not a skeleton, but that was still exciting to me.
